New barrina lights and time-lapse setup

A couple of weeks ago I rearranged my plant shelf and added some Barrina lights. I created a space just for the time-lapse camera to sit. The arm light is now the flash. First picture is the before. Second picture is after. Third picture is the top shelf. Fourth picture is the middle shelf. Fifth picture is the bottom shelf. Look below in the comments for a picture of the time-lapse setup. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #SucculentLove #WhatTheSuccWednesday #WhatTheSucc #PlantTherapy #plantphotoclub #plantphotography
Here is the time-lapse station. Black poster sheet for the background. Arm light is the flash. Box on the floor is to make sure the plant sits tall enough in the camera frame. Now I just have to impatiently wait for something to start blooming! ðŸĪĢ
This is so satisfying to see! It looks great!
@PlantMompy thank you!
Looks great and I love that style of shelf! I've built one before and now I think I want to build another for plants! âĪïļ
Awesome display just beautiful
@jaysjungle we actually bought that while on vacation in FL. We were visiting the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota. Funny thing is that we had left the gardens and kept talking about how much we liked the shelf. We ended up turning around and going back to buy it. The gardens is where my oldest air plant came from.
@clairsheart thanks!
@PurpleSucculent Hello 👋 Jennifer WOW ðŸĪĐ I love your Oasis!
So cool! Looking forward to time-lapse videos! ðŸĪ—
THIS IS AMAZING! And I love all the different colors and shapes. You’ve done a great job! ðŸŒąâ˜€ïļâĪïļ
Looks beautiful 😍
STUNNING😍
@TwistedThreads thank you! I have several windows around the house stuffed full of plants as well. I guess the term would be ‘crazy succulent lady’! ðŸĪĢ
@BeesZenGarden sadly Greg will not let me post video. I already ask. ðŸ˜Ē
@RealSimpleMama thank you! I love bright colorful pots to go along with the plants.
@Indoorgreens thanks!
@EmalySoko thank you 😊
@PurpleSucculent The Selby Botanical gardens is an absolutely amazing place but I think one can only really enjoy it when it’s not so awfully hot ðŸĨĩ! I was there this past December fabulous weather!
@PurpleSucculent Your plant studio looks very cool 😎!
@Ms.Persnickety yes, we try to visit our FL family during winter when it isn’t crazy hot!
@Ms.Persnickety thanks, now I just need something to bloom so that I can start a time-lapse!
That’s a rad setup!! ðŸĪ˜ðŸŧðŸ“ļ All of your plants look super great, as well!! ðŸŠīâœĻ
@mads thanks!
Looks amazing, you should see awesome growth with the Barrina lights, mine LOVE them💚
@Propa thanks, I hope so! ðŸĪžðŸŧ
It looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing your time lapse shots ðŸĨ°
Looks incredible! ðŸ˜Ū ðŸ™ŒðŸ―

I can see the work of love and care hat went into this. â™Ĩïļ

The Barrina T5 are the best!

( ðŸ’Ą pro tip! I've been using books to move some closer to the lights 😂)

My succulents - love them! 🌟 🙂

ðŸ“ļ Can't wait to see what you create in the time lapse shots... Please share links to yr videos! 😊

My boyfriend was just talking about making a video for our Mantra plant praying (leaves move up and down in response to light) as he's got a Sony AR7 camera that can shoot in low light - although he normally likes to shoot people not plants lol

[edited for typos ðŸ˜ģ 😎 ]
@Sassylimey Hopefully in the future Greg will allow the uploading of videos so that I can share with y’all!
@roxyvivien thanks for the tip! Do you know what the optimal distance from the Barrina’s the succulents should sit? I want them to get all the light they need, but I don’t want to burn them either by over doing it and moving them too close. This will be my first attempt at time-lapse photography. I’m more of a flowers and landscape kind of girl.
@PurpleSucculent it kinda depends on how much light you had before and if your using one or two lights above the plants, and of course the species...

But I'd start them about 8-10 inches away for 9 hours then slowly increase to 14 hours...

And slowly increase to 4-8 inches away (if you have one light) or 6-10 inches away if you have two lights above.

The only succulent that can't take being closer than 8 inches away from one light is my thin leaved Blue Echeveria (next to the Panda Plant).

All succulents can take up to 16 hours under a grow light but I have only have a 4, 9 or 14-hour option.

Here are some pics ðŸ“ļ (kitty + standard posts-it notes addes for size reference 😉 )

Also, I think it's interesting to note that upon moving many of my succulents back outside to 3-6 hours of direct southwest sunlight NONE of them have gotten burned going from grow lights to real sun! The lights are legit! ðŸ‘ðŸ―
@PurpleSucculent If I understand correctly, this might happen in the future. ðŸĪ”
@roxyvivien thanks for the tips. They have always been under grow lights. I just changed the type and placement of the lights. My husband bypassed the timer on the Barrina so that we could continue using the smart timers that we have. The smart timers turn on the Barrinas and the track lights at 4am and off at 4pm. Depending upon the hight of the plant the lights are 6-14 inches away. I will definitely keep an eye on the shorter plants that are farther away to see if I notice them losing their color. Thanks for the heads up about distance.
@BeesZenGarden I hope so! ðŸĪžðŸŧ
