Help me procrastinate! I know I am, and I’m perfectly fine with it. I just don’t want to finish up my work yet, and I keep getting sidetracked by these CMDs. They saw me coming! 🏃‍♀️💨

To help me back to reality or something like it, so I can be back on track to finish my work tomorrow, here’s my procrastination question: 🫶🏻 What did everybody get or want to get on Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals? I caved and got a few more since Etsy was giving customers a 20% one-time added to any shop discounts, so double couponing! For a one-time store purchase. So, I was able to get some amazing wishlist ones and save a little money, but instead, I returned them and bought a couple of less expensive wishlist ones. Haha, I got a problem. But damn, I love these sales!

So, what did everybody get, and why did you choose it over other plants you wanted? I’m excited to hear your Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. Oh, by the way, the Etsy code is EXTRA20. You do it at the very bottom if you have multiple shops in your cart, like I do. Scroll all the way down and right above checkout (this is the checkout for multiple shops). Add the code there. The coupon expires sometime tomorrow! #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PropagationStation #SucculentLove #NewGrowth #NewPlantMom #PetsAndPlants #OrchidLovers #PetsAndPlants #PlantCorner #PlantCorner #PlantShelfie #RarePlants #wateringhole @DreamMachine @princesspitstop @Jho @Just1More @AwesomePlants
I have been good. The last plant I bought was October 23, the euphorbia white ghost. I am trying desperately to get my collection down to 100. I am at 117 now (if I counted right and of course that doesn’t count props).
@Just1More I thought I was bad with 50.
I’m trying to control myself!
@PerfectOricad39 oh if you check the oasis for most people on this app, you will see that you’re a minimalist in comparison! 😅
I beat you to the punch the other day, but I have an Azlanii and Kaput arriving Friday! Of course, the temp has started dropping precipitously this week after I ordered because I was excited and didn’t check. Getting nervous but we shall see 🫣
OMG - I’m in trouble now. Just went to my Etsy page and all those “wish list” items became a reality!! 😳 I’m supposed to be shopping for other people in Dec. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I ordered a braided money tree, a string of turtles, an agleonema rotunda tiger (?) and a philodendron red heart. Plus some plant stakes and poles. Yikes!!
I wasn't going to get anything out of principle but then I searched anyway. Saved 50% and unfortunately, I regret nothing 😂
@Forbes57 "I'm supposed to be shopping for other people in December" don't call me out like that 😭 Consider also buying plants for people who don't want them so they'll get regifted 😜

@Forbes57 @Jho @Just1More @PerfectOricad39 @Idplantthat @CactusAdjacent
@AwesomePlants “I’m a pusher, Cady!” 🫶 thank you for the recs. I’ve been hesitant to go the Etsy route because I wasn’t sure who was legit. This is very helpful!
@Jho I use Etsy for seeds and hoya cuttings.
@CactusAdjacent 😂😂😂 Brilliant! “Oh, you don’t like plants? I’d be happy to take that off your hands!”
I love everyone’s picks! @CactusAdjacent loving your Norfolk, I can’t get over how feather soft their pines are. @Jho if you ever want more ideas of where to buy on Etsy, I get a lot of my plants from them. @AwesomePlants I’m loving your hilarious plant enabling, I need to check out your shops this dangerous.. I definitely need an adult present when plant shopping.. 🛍️ so many little plants and not enough space or time to do them all. 🤣 @Forbes57 Patti you are so cute! 🥰 I totally get the wishlist reality.. it got me, and I caved and spent way more money again.. oops. 🙊 but three of my wishlist plants were marked down and with an extra twenty percent off.. I had to do it. Not the most I’ve paid for a plant. Damn near close. 🤣🫶🏻 @Just1More Cindy, I’m so impressed I couldn’t hold back like that. You are a queen 👸 of self-control I commend you! 🙇‍♀️ I’m going to Star Wars out here for a minute and tell you to teach me.. to unlearn what I have learned: aka. NOT buy the plant.. ⚠️ @PerfectOricad39 50, is just a great number though for plants, it’s a good balance of not too much but not too little as well. I’m what you call an extreme with impulse control problems. 🫣
@debbiedo ha ha I love it.. 😻 I’ll take it off your hands. 🤣🤣
@Idplantthat you are safe for now. #EtsyTheSlantonRanch is the best for hoya cuttings, but she's done I think til spring. See her reviews, my username is same to see her generous cuttings.
@AwesomePlants ooh! I’m excited. It’s probably good if I don’t get into another plant to become obsessed with till spring 🤣
@Jho are you hiding these from hubby or has he just given up?😅
@Idplantthat honestly it helped that a neighbor friend down the street that used to enable me, got a really bad mealy bug infestation and swore off getting new plants till it was resolved.
@MamaLinne @Forbes57 "hi, I'm BW and I buy plants I have no business buying. Can I please get a show of hands with appropriate fingers indicating plants lost since last impulse purchase" 😜
@Just1More hahaha! SO he doesn’t know about these yet. But my excuse is, I’ve *consolidated* the plant shelf a little bit and made more room, so now my bathroom plant stand has two empty spots. They just don’t look right empty. 😅😅
@Jho solid argument
@CactusAdjacent sometimes, I have a brilliant idea to try new plants. Last different haul were ferns. Only 2 have barely survived and thats because I'm keeping them in a plastic container. I keep forgetting about them because eh, not my favorite. I'm just gonna stick to hoyas.
@Jho empty plant shelves? Pfft! The plants need "fronds"!
@AwesomePlants haha yes!!!! Ok so all you guys, come to Brooklyn on Friday around 5pm. Look for the UPS truck. There’s strength in numbers. I’m fairly sure @DreamMachine has a PowerPoint we can present.
@Just1More oh no! 🙈 I mean it’s great to say money… but 🤐 sh…t getting a bad bug problem is terrible. All your hard efforts being eaten like that always sucks the fun right out of them! So sad, 😞 🤞 it passes soon.
@Jho ha ha ha I love Nadia! She’s hilarious and so darn funny. 😆
@AwesomePlants @CactusAdjacent my Aussie tree ferns have bombed terribly! I was hoping for a comeback but idk… that and the two eucalyptus plants I completely forgot were up on a shelf… I swear whenever I go to myself you are doing awesome, something goes terribly wrong and I just go… never mind don’t got this… and damn it! What do I do now 🤦‍♀️🫣
@Jho blame it on your Greg friends! But they MADE me buy more plants! 🤣
@AwesomePlants, they held a plant to my head and everything! What could I do? I had to get new plants now. 🤦‍♀️ 🤣 I love your attitude on this! 🥰🤣
@Jho I need to go to Home Depot for soil. I keep putting it off so I don't get tempted, but I hotta repot some plants. Here goes! They better not have any hoya I like! 🤫

If I'm not back in an hour, my wallet tripped and fell at the register🫠

My only saving grace is that I NEVER get a cart, so once my hands are full, I'm done.
@CactusAdjacent @DreamMachine @princesspitstop
@AwesomePlants ohhhhh I know that wallet trip! Good luck!!! 🍀😂
Twas weak, but I did avoid the good HD, so only walked out with one extra and only because LeafJoy plants are 50% off at #HomeDepot and I NEEDED to replace my philo squami.

@Jho
Oh! Forgot to show squami!!
@AwesomePlants the gingerbread man philo! (They always look like little gingerbread people to me on furry sticks.) I LOVE 💕 this variety of plant. 🌱 They are underappreciated, I think 💭 that’s so smart not to get a cart.. I should do that. Ha ha ha
@Jho @Idplantthat @AwesomePlants hahaha!! PowerPoints, excel spreadsheets, arts and crafts dioramas, and even some planty interpretive dance, I’m your gal!! 😂

Omg I stopped in Home Depot today and didn’t get ANYTHING 😳 But, it was because HD most certainly did NOT carry azomite rock dust 🤷🏼‍♀️ and I was walking, and I didn’t want any plant to get too cold 🥶

Please say a prayer for my anthurium and my dragons breath alocasia. They are currently traveling to me, Florida to Oregon and taking 6 days to do so via usps 🥶🤞🏼🤞🏼😩 I ordered early Nov, was not expecting a mid December ship date. They have a heat pack, but still!! 😮‍💨🤞🏼
@Idplantthat I had a squami, but chopped it to prop and 🫣 forgot about them🪦. I love a hairy philo. Philos were my 1st love.
@DreamMachine oh no 🙈 cross-country journey for your babies! I’m right there with you. Good news is while Alocasia leaves are wicked sensitive, the actual corm is pretty resilient. Anthuriums are pretty tough as well, so 🤞🤞 they all arrive safely! I’ll 🤞🤞 hope for both of us to have them show up safe. I got a red mambo and some mystic Jacklyn and an Albo Brancifolia corm.. as well as a few other anthuriums, Alocasias and a few others 🫣 it snowed again today so no more plants being shipped in for us. (I just worry the same as you about the cold) 🥶
@AwesomePlants I love them 😍 as well. The fuzzy plants just scream “ touch me like you mean it!” (And I just simply cannot control myself. I gotta touch ‘ em all!) What’s the other one of the philodendrons that are like this?? The name just slipped my mind.. 🤦‍♀️😂
@AwesomePlants ooo good find!! Glad you are able to make amends! @DreamMachine @Idplantthat ohhhhh Nadia’s got the alocasia bug!!! Is this number 2 or 3? I’m glued to my UPS app too, we can all be Nervous Nancys together. Mine made it to NJ today so I’m hoping UPS surprises with a day early delivery tomorrow. The high on Friday here is 33. 🫣 Mystic Jacklyn.. you’ve always got me googling these cool plants! We can be mambo twins. 👯
@AwesomePlants @Idplantthat Oooh I love the fuzzy ones too!! I 🩶my purple velvet plant and my hoya burtoniae and the one “velvety” philo I have is the micans!! 🥰
And lol yes Josh I have! Bitten hard! This will be #3 if you count my xanthosoma 😁😁
@Idplantthat @Jho I am much happier being a nervous Nancy with you all 🩶🥰🤞🏼🤞🏼
@Jho @DreamMachine @AwesomePlants, you are going to have to tell us if it makes it a day early! 🤣 One of my corms arrived today, and I have a few more plant deliveries coming today, but like you, it’s cold here! I’m so worried. I hate chasing the weather in hopes it won’t freeze to death while hanging out in the delivery truck. 🤣🤣 I wish they’d do better at trying to keep living things alive. 😬
Not a plant (boo! But it’s steadily below 0 here already) but I got some gardening overalls over half off!
@Idplantthat @DreamMachine hey! So you saw in the other thread that my lil guys arrived early (yessssss)! Now starts the helicoptering. 🚁 Obviously, I wanna leave them alone as much as possible while they acclimate - my Kapit has already closed up leaves with the humidity dropping with this crazy cold we got today. 🫣 HOWEVER - this soil looks super dense, right? I feel like it’s gonna take forever to dry out (still was wet when it got here so I haven’t given any water yet, just neem and light). But I thought my scalprum soil was too dense too and I should have left that alone. I’m sooooo close to ordering some soil and doing some repots this weekend. Have your plant packages arrived yet??
@GrowMyPretties heck yes to overalls!
@Jho, oh wow! It does look dense. I don’t blame you. Repotting might be necessary. You can also give them a little heat pad to help them warm up and feel better. But that’s just a thought. I’ve had two days of deliveries, one was terrible and I was shocked to have, the others were well packaged and arrived beautifully!! I’ll have to get some photos for you all. I’ve been seriously repotting today, I was trying to put it off… but the roots in some were growing out the bottom, and then the volcanic substrate for the corms! 🥰🥰 @DreamMachine did yours come yet??? @Jho what’s the first plant in those pictures? I love that you have two! (Like two separate plants in one pot.) That’s always the best getting two for one!
Loving these guys, one thing I find so interesting with alocasia roots - when they are variegated, even the roots grow out variegated and colored pink!
I love it. I hope the pink shows up. 🥰😬
Sorry, one more! This one came today! It’s beautiful. I feel like it’s some alien octa-squid that has really cool flowers, or whatever these are called. 😂 The scientist in me is very limited in remembering the correct terms. 😂🤣 I apologize, but it is an Aglaonema ( I hope I spelled that right 🤔) flying squid 🦑 Aglaonema
@Jho ooh wow that does look pretty heavy. 🤔 I suppose the question to ask would be: how much light and air flow can you give them? Nurseries can plant all their plants in that kind of mix because they having aMAZing light, and lots of air flow, which helps them go through water quickly and then that soil is not a problem. If you don’t have the airflow nor light of a Florida/california/hawaiian nursery (like uh, most of us lol 😂 ) then I would reccomend a repot. But if you have a killer grow light and a good fan, I would hold off and repot when they’re better acclimated. The precarious seesaw of plant care!
@Idplantthat mine aren’t due for 3 more days 😭😭 They’re in Henderson NV right now 🤞🏼🤞🏼 That is SO cool about the variegated roots!!! What!! I’m floored! 😱😱😱
@DreamMachine yeaaaah, good way of deciding. I will say that the Azlanii actually was dry today (surprising), so I gave it a little drink. Kapit still has a few dirt crumbs stuck to my finger when I test, so I left that alone. I think I’ve decided that I’ll up them to a 5 inchers so it’ll give me a chance to backfill some chunky mix and cut as close to the nursery soil as possible without disturbing roots. Kinda same as my corms.. it’ll mix eventually. Annoying because I actually have 6 inch pots at the ready but the only 5s I have are missing the water reservoir (thanks Amazon). Maybe I’ll steal my Snow Queen’s pot and up her to a 6, then I’ll only be down one. I am sending all the good vibes to Nevada!! @Idplantthat omg those are beautiful!! I’m glad *most* of the deliveries went well. The pink roots are so cute; almost don’t wanna hide them! And that flying squid is so cool. 🤩 I had always loved flying squid alocasias; had no idea there was an aglaonema version too! My “double” is the Azlanii. 💫 Is that very first photo a gloriosum?
@Jho 🤓 if you do repot into a chunkier mix, I would suggest trying to get as much of that peat (?) soil off as you can without damage because if you have a ball of it surrounding the roots, touching chunkier mix, than that peat soil has a high risk of either becoming hydrophobic or way too water saturated and your planty could become really dry or really wet and you wouldn’t be able to tell. What I like to do is to get a big bowl of lukewarm water out and then swish the roots around in the water gently and just kind of tickle the soil off, if you know what I mean. It’s okay not to get Every Single Piece off, but you want enough of it off that you’re not accidentally creating a perch water table.

Also…could you use the 6” pots, but just not fill them with as much substrate? That way you would still have the soil volume of the smaller pot but in the larger pots that are ready to be used. Then I just top it off with more substrate as it grows and needs it!
@DreamMachine ohhhh thank you so much for that tip!! I don’t usually work with peat, I had no idea! I suppose I could use the 6s that way. Hopefully they grow quick; they’re gonna look so teeny tiny in there! 😂 thanks for helping me brainstorm.
@Jho you got it 👉🏼👉🏼 *pew pew finger guns * 😁 I’m really excited to see how they do!!
@DreamMachine @Jho Nadia! I hope your plants arrive very soon! 🤞🤞🤞📦🪴 Great advice as well. Good luck, @Jho! Let us know how it works out! I’m excited to see your post about them! 🤩
@Idplantthat lol! Our posts probably crossed wires. How are you today?
@Jho, this guy was the one you were asking about? It’s a velvet leaf Mican philodendron 🤗 I love them; they remind me slightly of the velvety leaf anthuriums.
These little buddies arrived today, with a Corm… first one on my dirty plant table in the plant room, which is also a major mess… but I’ll clean the whole thing come spring and my plants can go back out. I’m hoping by then I will downsize a little more. (In plants.) First one is just a good old Anthurium Waroquanum, I’ve been wanting one forever, and I found a 2-inch little baby for a good price. (2nd) Kaempferia ‘Jungle Rose’ every since I discovered it, I’ve wanted it. 🥳 so I’m very excited, But I’ve had great success at her store https://www.etsy.com/shop/ coollectiveplants that’s the store if anyone is interested. She’s got some interesting options @DreamMachine @Jho I know this store for you, Nadia would be a little stressful, in the shipping department 😵‍💫. But they ship fast and well. For Josh I think it’d arrive pretty quickly?? But check in out! I love this store
@Jho I’m going alright. I’ve been moving plants, cleaning pots, and trying to see how I can get more lights and airflow. Any ideas or suggestions? I found this weird light, but I wonder if it works?? Thought??? https://a.co/d/3UDgFrB I was thinking some plants are on the floor, and I’m wondering if that’d be helpful to? I feel like we need to involve Nadia! How is Black Velvet Josh? I think of you every time I walk past my variegated gold-flaked black velvet 🥰🥰 heck, how are all the Alocasia?? We need to start a # or something for anthuriums and Alocasias! And I want to see pics of the begonias and Syngoniums! 🤣
@Idplantthat you know what, I just discovered coollection like last week, but I was on their website!! I forget what plant I was stalking. lol! They had something I was after. You know I was researching grow lights this afternoon for my mom too - her olive tree is dropping leaves and I suspect it’s not getting enough light nowadays. We needed strong but *aesthetic* - think we settled on a pendant light set up for her. I’ve always wondered if grow lights were effective from below and I’ve never seen a light specifically marketed for that - that’s so cool!! One of those vertical bar lights like a t1s might work for the floor guys too if that fits your space better. And I keep a little Vornado Strata going for air circ.. just first speed so it’ll move air but not actually perceptible in the winter. It actually sits on the floor but the airflow is aligned like a scoop up so it does a good “mix,” and the fan part is enclosed so safe for animals and kids. I can totally see how that’s a micans now - I guess the lack of scale made me imagine it as a gigantic leaf. 😂😂 Those are FANTASTIC additions!! I love strap leafs so much, and first I’ve seen a Jungle Rose. Have you ever seen an ORANGE princess philo before? I just heard of them today and I’m a little bit obsessed. (Let’s be real, you’re probably gonna post a photo of yours that you’ve had since before they were cool - you’ve got all the best plants.) The alos are all doing well - that dang leaf still hasn’t unfurled on the BV and I’m still wrapping it in a wet paper towel for a few min everyday. I think it’s made progress but it’s SLOW! lol. The gold flakes are sooo pretty!! I’ll take some update pics of everyone mañana - I need to add the newbies to my oasis still too. And the Buffy begonia gets closer to a bloom every day - 😱!! I would totally be down for an Alocasia and Anthurium tag - maybe a name will come to me overnight.
@Idplantthat @Jho Those lights are heavy duty! But I was just listening to one of my favorite planty podcasts talk about having grow lights on top AND shining up from below as well. Vivosun is a good company, just personally that is way more money than I would be comfortable spending. Have you used the barrina T5 and/or T8s? Are they too small for your greenhouse?

Podcast is The Houseplant Coach episode 155- Grow lights! If you want to check it out.

Also there is #AlocasiaAddicts but that’s kind of boring. I really like the sound of #AnthuriumDelirium though! How big is that Micans leaf? It looks HUGE but maybe it’s just perspective
Okkkk - plant shelf - all good. I think my snow queen is a little too close to the lights now (I did bump down the power but still), so I might need to rearrange something to help her with her new pot. My Black Cardinal is down there just slowly pushing a new leaf. Mini monstera is starting a new growth point after being chopped and the moonshine snake plant is just.. there. Trying not to lose its color by giving it lots of light. If it goes green, I’ll probably get rid of it. Not big on regular snake plants. “The big guys” - my rubber tree has been sleeping for a month or so now but that’s normal for her. Same with the FLF - sleeping but maintaining. I wanna trim the lower leaves come spring and make her more “tree” like. The esqueleto keeps going and going - I’m gonna chop and prop that one leggy section, I think. I want it to stay as compact as possible because my last monstera became a Seymour situation and I swore them off.
The apartment complex- begonia maculata getting a little bit leggy. I still need to do the prop and chop. It’s putting out new leaves, though, as is the pink spot. Oh! And my Jacklyn has transitioned great - already pushing a new leaf. My Polly hasn’t done anything but slowly lose leaves since it’s been here. Hoping it acclimates soon and starts putting out growth. And my micans over on her lonesome just keeps doing her thing. She was a rescue, had some spider mite damage and even still had webbing so I got her cheap and have been rehabbing. I think she’s done with the spider mites but she stays by herself juuuuust in case.
Alocasia corner. BV pushing a new leaf, the Scalprum is still finishing its three new leaves. Cuprea has a beautiful new leaf and second one on the way. My Frydek is throwing temper tantrums. Now another white leaf has started turning. I am really wondering if it just wants MAWR LIGHT. I don’t get it because the others are all doing fine, and the green leaves are all fine.
Bathroom gang. I cheaped out on this light and I think it’s beginning to show. It’s supposed to be 40W but my Florida ghost isn’t so ghosty anymore and my BMF is pushing leaves but they’re tiny. My Billie is doing good, except for the petiole I snapped trying to train him up so he wouldn’t be so unwieldy. And that Raven ZZ put out new growth once in like 7 months and it stopped at like 2 inches. So I said fine, you don’t wanna grow? You can be an ornament back here. And my new props.
@Idplantthat @Jho omg my babies are in Portland!! It’s usps so probably no delivery today but at least I know they’re not freezing now! Night temps are only getting to 48° 🤞🏼
Buffy gets her own section. Pushing out new leaves. I noticed the flower buds turn away from light today, but it’s already very far away (like 7 ft) from the grow light so I don’t think it’s getting too much? I actually put it here because it’s one of the few babies that can do with less light and everything else would probably keel over here.
@DreamMachine YES!! Thas fantastic!! I’m glad it’s not soooo cold for them. How long total will this transit be?
@Jho you mean leaf buds buds right? 😲
@Jho tomorrow will be the 8th day in transit 😬😬
@DreamMachine these are leaf buds? They look different than the other leaves that are popping up?
@DreamMachine oh wow! They will need some TLC when they get to you, but I’m sure you’re up to the challenge!
@Jho, all of your plants look so beautiful and so healthy! I’ve heard of Orange Princess, and yes, I have one. 🤭 Have you seen the Fire Princess? That’s been my latest obsession. The Fire Princess philodendron is gorgeous! I see an opening in your bathroom set up that looks like it could use a new buddy! (Not to encourage more plant friends. 🤣🤣) I love your Buffy; those little baby leaves/flowers are so dang cute! 🥰 I am needing lights so much in the greenhouse, but in my plant room in my house, my rehab room just needs grow light bulbs; that’s what I use in there. And then my actual separate plant room, that’s where I was thinking floor lamps. I need them, and my mom needs some for her garage as well; that’s my plant overflow. lol I lost room here for usable inside space. 🤣🤣🤦‍♀️
@DreamMachine Oooh! 😮 At least they are in Oregon! Whew? You only get to 48 at nights! That’s incredible… we aren’t even that high in most of our days. 🤣🤭 Will they arrive today or tomorrow? Tomorrow my nutmeg seeds arrive! I’m going to attempt to grow some 🤞🤞😬 I’m not one who has high success rates with seeds lol 😂
@Idplantthat OF COURSE you have one! Ok, I’m a little more jealous today than I was yesterday. Omg Fire Princess is exceptional! But also with an exceptional price! I thought the orange princess was expensive! 😭 I agree - that empty spot does need to be filled but I need to stop buying alocasias because none will thrive there. 😂 A philo *would* be perfect there…..! My dream is to have a greenhouse one day!! Or like a little backyard sunroom/shed filled with plants. You know, in my old apartment, it was literally a basement with no windows at all, so I swapped out some of the ceiling can lights with GE grow bulbs, and they did wonderful. I used the big PAR38 for the section where my monstera was. Maybe something like that in the rehab room? I hear you on the usable space.. I love the Christmas tree but I kinda can’t wait for it to go so my big boy plants can spread out some. Hahahaha I love that your mom has your plant overflow. Does she like plants as much as you?
@Jho oh that wallpaper is such a great idea! 💡 I love it! 🥰 My mom is and isn’t a plant person… if that makes sense. She finds me overwhelming with all my plants and admittedly tells me I need to downsize and she’ll disown me if I get more plants. 🤣🤣 At the same time though she will tell me what I should be doing to make it better… she’s actually the one who bought me my greenhouse, I definitely couldn’t have afforded it. 😉 But she tells me it’s part of my inheritance and she’s okay doing it for me since she’ll probably outlive me. 🤣 (if you don’t know, I’m not sure who I’ve said this to) I’ve been sick for a lot of years now. (I stopped being able to travel even by car anymore and I rarely leave the house anymore since it’s just so much pain for me.) But oh well, that’s life no reason to be a downer! Oooh! What kind of philodendron are you thinking of? Do you have a ring of fire yet? I love the ring of fire I feel like it’s a very underappreciated plant. Oh a fun fern, not sure if you like ferns. Or a ginger, have you seen the spiral 🌀 gingers or anything like that? I’ve been loving the gingers lately. But I love usable plants. That’s what I originally started with years ago, was all edible plants. My mom grew up on a farm and orchard so we grew up very similar… so true and orchard plants or garden plants I’m much more familiar with. 🤣 House plants I’m hit and miss. Besides Alocasias and philodendrons what would you say has been your favs?
@Idplantthat I’m very sorry that you’re sick. I understand you’ve had a lot of time to process it and you eventually run out of worries, and glad that you’re able to still find your joy in plants at home when life throws you a curveball. Taking care of the plants can be such a meditative experience, I think. I’ve been learning the roller coaster myself and confronting mortality a bit since my cancer diagnosis this summer, although I realize not comparable in time nor pain. It’s great to have positive people in your life to keep your head screwed on right, and it sounds like your mom is definitely one of them for you. 😊 On a brighter note, I actually started a targeted therapy, for one year, this week so here’s hoping that does what it’s supposed to. Thank you for the compliment on the wall - that was a pandemic project. I was feeling so city-bound for that year or so, so I decided to bring the forest to me. As for the plants, I am a picky PIA. Unfortunately, that transcends just the plants and runs into most things. 🫣 The RoF is a cool plant, but I think it would outgrow my space pretty quickly with those long leaves. To be honest, even the like birkin/ppp/orange princess philos as mature plants…. give me a little bit of an ick. I don’t know why… I love them small but the first time I saw a mature Birkin in person, I was so repulsed. 😭 I’m getting over it, obviously. I really enjoy dark/burgundy/purple/black forms of plants, OR the complete opposite and the moonshine/highly white variegated versions. Contradiction, I know. I’m enjoying getting more into begonias too. I do enjoy ferns but I feel like im already battling humidity with the winter cold, so maybe not a great time for them. I would love a mini asparagus fern forest one day. Speaking of, you can see my Boston fern was in such terrible shape in that picture from yesteryear. Amazing the comeback he’s done. SO dipping my toe into Etsy, there’s an orange princess AND black cherry philo starters for relatively cheap from Green Escape that I’m considering. The other alternative is NY City succulents, but they’re considerably more expensive and I am a little 😒 about them in general. Just vibes, and when I went in their brick and mortar, MORE vibes. But their reviews are good. 🤷‍♂️
@Jho ohhh! So I’ve got a few shops on Etsy that I really like. Have you looked into any of the bronze philodendrons? Or the dark matter philo? This place is amazing for begonias! I’ve never found such beautiful, healthy ones in my life! https://www.etsy.com/shop/BearFootFarmsLLC If you like the purple, have you thought of a Persian shield? They are super easy to maintain and propagate fast. It’s a little cold right now, but in spring, if you are interested, I can send you some clippings and/ or a few other plants I’ve got here! I do love to share the plants! I’ve never been to New York or really anything up higher on the East Coast. My uncle and husband are from the East Coast, but I’ve never had the pleasure to go. My parents used to go. My dad had a good friend/ patient who was/is a Broadway singer who lives out there. I can only imagine, during the pandemic 😷, that it would get a little more stir-crazy, especially with such a busy city. 🏙️ I’m so happy to hear you are in remission. Cancer is no joke. It’s a tough thing to have to process and deal with, and being sick is so difficult on relationships. I definitely agree. Plants are so very therapeutic. Maybe a little too addictive for me 🤣
@Idplantthat oh Persian shields are very pretty. The color kind of reminds me of my Gynura aurantiaca (Purple Passion). I would love a clipping, and also to return the favor if there’s anything of mine to share (ie that you don’t already have 😂)! After I hit send, I was like, “dang, I should have added bronze into the colors I like!” You read my mind. Like a Florida bronze is really cool. I’m googling dark matter - it’s telling me either Dark Lord (vining) or Black Cherry PPP. I do love both, I forget why I chose Black Cardinal over Dark Lord before. I think maybe the leaves would get too big or something? Or it could have been something as dumb as I didn’t feel like setting up a moss pole at the time. The Black Cherry philo - man. Im not super into pink but it’s what I wish the Orange Princess did - stayed black while having the splashes of orange. I guess that’s kind of Princess of Fire, though. Bearfoot Farms is amazing!! I am saving them because I see they are in Oregon and I would be scared of that transit during winter. East Coast stuff usually goes quick because it’s right up I-95 for the fedex truck. lol. I see they have a Pavovina 😍😍 And Fannie Moser looks fantastic too!! If you ever feel up for traveling, get out here and let us show you around! There’s so much in this little pocket of the northeast.
https://www.etsy.com/shop/coollectiveplants https://www.etsy.com/shop/AngiesPlanties Both of these shops are from Florida. I like both of them, but if you haven’t seen them, look up a tangerine, orange marmalade, carnival peperomia. Great colors. Lately I’ve been really into the whipped way philodendron. - no idea why, but I have been. 🤣🫶🏻
