Lithops repot
I’m always nervous repotting one of my favorite plants, but at least it’s a good opportunity to see what’s going on down in the pot where I can’t see it. I couldn’t be happier with these roots! #LithopsArmy #Lithops #RootPorn #Mesembs #RepotSeason #repotting

@CordialWildyam I feel ya! I just repotted my Serpens and held my breath the entire time.
Those are some serious roots! Congratulations 🎉🍾🎈🪴

@TheConservator this is the first time I’ve been very pleased with them. Last time I repotted, a few years ago, they looked pretty anemic
Oh my gosh. Those are huge roots from such a little plant. I went online and looked the plant up because I didn’t know what a Lithop was. Found out that they’re a succulent which you already know but I didn’t. They imitate a stone but I’ve never seen roots like that, that I turned over any rock🧐🥴 Tell me what you do so I can duplicate it. What type of soil? What kind of pot? Clay, plastic or terracotta which is what it looks like you use. Whatever you’re doing you’re doing it right. I’m impressed by your ability. 🥳
What exactly am I looking 🤔 at here..Please explain in basic "Moron" Please? @CordialWildyam
@DaringColtsfoot roots on a lithops - a desert plant from South Africa. The plants are small, low to the ground, and only keep two leaves at a time. I found it interesting just how much bigger than the plant the root structure is
@TooUnique oh geez, thanks, but I’m a rank amateur when it comes to lithops. The soil I mixed myself. I can’t remember exactly this mix, but I’ll put a link at the bottom. Wrong pot - too shallow and glazed clay. The big points are: don’t fertilize, don’t over-water. From October to usually April or May, my lithops get at most one sip of water.
Soil something like this succulent mix, but I improvise:

@CordialWildyam thanks Jason. Your plant interests me. Did you say you had it under a grow light?
@TooUnique yes, even though it’s in a west facing window. These desert plants, I find, simply can’t get enough light up north where I am without them. Nothing fancy, cheap monios-l light strips from Amazon
@TooUnique this isn’t the greatest photo, I forget what I was trying to take a picture of, but this is how I gave the lights even in the window
@TooUnique this is better. I keep them on hangers to be able to raise and lower them. But it could be done much more simply than this
@CordialWildyam my problem is that this is the plant stand where I have all my plants. As you can see there are different levels of shelves. Looking at it I figured I could put lights under shelves and perhaps on the sides. I’m so new to lights that I’ve been procrastinating for about 2 months!🥴
@CordialWildyam thanks Jason. You have helped me to see that there are various ways to use lights💕
@TooUnique yes, absolutely! These are some places that I’ve done similar. The left two have monies-l 2 ft warm plant lights under the shelf. The right one has 6” lights from….bonida? The other popular Amazon brand.
@TooUnique oh wow, I checked out your oasis and saw your ponytail palm. What an amazing plant. Any idea how old it is?
