Some of the coolest people I have met are because of plants.  Whether it’s at the grocery store or a neighbor or work, or even on Greg the #bestappontheinternet, you instantly become friends! What is even better than plant friends? Friends that give away plants!!
So this past weekend I went to a planty friends house. The weather was absolutely perfect! We talked, laughed, and WAIT! Did you just say, “Do you want this plant?” Who says no to that, right??!!!!! @sarahsalith and I have been friends for right around 17 years! We had a several year gap but we were reconnected by plants! It was such an amazing reunion! In the pictures I will post my plant haul from #thisweekendatsarahs

So, I did not have the best high school experience. Bullying, insecurities etc. I managed to get over it with time and moved on with my life, but it scarred me. One day, browsing my plantstagram, I receive a message from an account I did not follow: "Did you study at Colegio Batista? Are you that Gustavo?"
This guy found me because an account reposted one of my posts and he recognized me and decided to say hello. He was never a bully, but we never spoke before, and to my surprise, we immediately hit it off! He's obsessed with anthuriums and we now talk at least 3 times a week about plants and life. 12 years after, I made a friend from high school because of my plants!

This is a surprise that made me so so happy and I would have never expected it. We share tips, swap plants, and I envy his cabinet! Haha

@Boymom-plantmom sadly, I don't have too many plant friends close by but @Lifeis2short is an awesome plant friend and sent me some of her beautiful succulents and @Artistic_Stoner is always helpful and encouraging! The whole community is helpful and encouraging, it's #thebestappontheinternet!

Although I’m a great proponent of this app my personal view of what a friend is differs substantially from everyone else’s. A true friend is someone you trust, can be yourself with, and who supports you. The time it takes to form a friendship depends on the level of connection desired, but generally ranges from casual acquaintance to close friend over a period of time spent together. Everyone I have communicated with on this app is always pleasant and agreeable even sympathetic but to call them friends, sorry I have not met you, I don’t know you. We might have the same interests but there’s more to being a friend than just that. Therefore I am recusing myself from this month’s giveaway. And if I’ve offended anyone with my opinion so be it. I hope everyone has a great rest of the week.

@PlantMompy this is awesome!!! ❤️ Same here! I have also met people on a local plant group and found some are on Greg! That has really been fun! I still talk to @KrunchyWrapz almost daily. She hasn’t been on here in a while but we have because really good friends and have even traveled the hour and a half to met up!!
My one coworker has become a great planty friend. I haven't convinced them to join Greg yet, but I'll keep trying. We each have a plant (or 3 in my case) in the office we share with 4 other people and geek out about them and our houseplants regularly. I got to share with them while they were on vacation that their snake plant is flowering! It's nice to have someone around who understands the plant love.

I met a planty friend on Palmstreet not too long ago. We share a love for calatheas! We update each other on our frequent plant mail, and obviously shares the deals we find 😋 She’s such a funny and kind human being. She collects begonias too! I don’t think she’s on Greg, but if she was I’d definitely tag her. I’ve made so many friends here on Greg as well!! I love it!
I have a plant friend that I met through work years ago. She isn't on this app. We met at work and started talking as we talked about everything including plants, we found we had a lot in common. Over the years we would visit each other and give each other advice on plants and even our kids. I moved to another town so we only see each other once a year when she and her kids come to visit. She and I are both lovers of Pothos. We would swap cuttings with each other when we stayed close. After her move , her plants were gone. She is coming in 2 months and I'm getting cuttings ready for her. She went from being my best friend to my family. She's bringing me a lot of plants when she comes to see me. Love my plant friend, my best friend.
I haven’t met any plant friends on here yet, but looking forward to it. HOWEVER, I will say that my relationship with my sister-in-law has blossomed (pun absolutely intended) thanks to plants! She has been a green thumb ever since I can remember & she has been so patient & kind when I bombard her with plant questions ❤️
I have two plant friends here on Greg who I enjoy checking in with. I know if I reach out they will reply with the knowledge I need if they have it. And so for being a good plant friend I want to thank them! @TheConservator and @MusicalRedmint
@FairyFly it’s OK that you don’t have that many plants for the giveaway I understand they’re getting so expensive lately the other day I spent $30 on an orchid for my fifth time of trying to keep alive and I think this is finally my chance I never got in a new route or leave so early after getting it
I don’t think I’m eligible, but I have a few special plant friends including my bestie who reintroduced me to plants three years ago. I have some friends at work including my girl January who is on Greg @Pine.and.Dime (but doesn’t post). She propagates with her students in our shared classroom and we are obsessed with our green babies! I stand friendship. My girl Ruthie also adores plants and gave me a gorgeous monstera, which made my summer. And of course love all of the plants peeps on Greg. Someday we will have to gather at a #PlantConwithGreg (can we make this a thing???)

@AwesomePlants my favorite plant friends is my adorable dogs they are always helping.. and even more adorable 🥰 niece who just got her very own pitcher plant. (My mum, her GG) told me she’s being taking her pitcher plant from her house to my mums house to catch bugs to feed him.. she absolutely adores plants.. she started out with a veggie, then I gave her bananas, a pitcher. Vicks, succulents, pineapples and her uncle (my brother) gave her another plant, we got her all set up with lights and a timer, but she does everything else.. waters and takes care of them all, and she’s only 9.. she loves dogs and plants so we figured we teach her! Besides her I think family, friends and anytime anyone works on house is generally offered something

She was so happy (my niece) we did a day at the nursery let her pick her gloves, her sun hat, watering can then we spent a half hour looking for that perfect plant! She takes him all over the place by scooter.. we endeda long planting day by hitting this absolutely gorgeous tea shop! Best tea I’ve ever had. But these are my plant friends don’t mind weirdo she actually loves to wear people’s clothes we try to take it off her and she fights us, until she’s ready so I need to find her a planting shirt lol any ideas?? Her name is Siggy and she’s the sweetest bossy girl I’ve ever met
I work part time. I've had plants in my office from time to time so they all "know" my obsession. One of the guys in the shop came in the other day, saying his wife had decided she wanted to get a few houseplants and they had questions. Simple/starter type questions that probably got way more information than he really wanted 😆. Any way, Mother's Day is coming and she's the bonus mom to his daughter (those get lost in the appreciation sometimes) so I've got a couple starts from props I'm going to have ready for her.

I live on the opposite side of the country from my family and most of my friends, so connecting with other plant lovers from around the world here on Greg has been especially meaningful for me. The #brunchataudreys crew has served as something of a home base, but I've also shared with and learned from plenty of amazing folks outside of that group ❤️
My plant bestie is also my real life bestie! Our vibe is me deep diving into various aspects of plant care and then curating and digesting the info for her into bite sized pieces cos let’s face it.. plant care can be ALOT! 😂😂😂 but I wouldn’t have it any other way! Aside from this app & all the kind, helpful loving people on it, im shocked & truly blessed at how many plants friends I have in real life. My grandma has always had a green thumb, I recently got my mom hooked on succulents, & I have 5 friends all into different kinds of plants that I exchange or give propagations to all the time. One in particular I met a year ago at the laundromat, we got to talking about plants & I mentioned I have about 30 succulents.. well she said she had 100 & our eyes lit up with excitement, we exchanged numbers & the rest is history! I help her a couple days a month with her 2 1/2 acre edible garden, I have learned so dang much in preparation for when we get our own property ☺️
As for Greg friends, there’s a good handful of you that really brighten up conversations & are a joy to chat with! Heyyy I haven’t done this before so this will be exciting. I’m situated in Johannesburg South Africa and I only recently got into planting. I have a few friends with the love for plants but not as much as me currently. So this app has really been a bridge for me and connecting with plant people 😊❤️ very grateful
Funnily enough my irl friends with plant obsessions aren't people I would call my plant friends. Our approaches and planty interests just don't align that way. However, because of that I get to be corny and say "my mom". She has always been a big garden and houseplant person. And once my orchid interest became "orchid and hoya obsession" I infected her. She already has gotten just short of 10 hoya cuttings from me and been gifted new orchid keikis/ plants from my own hauls. so at this point we can obsess together. Right now, it's a race to the top, whose bella blooms first 😉 my heuschkeliana will win against hers, however, of that I'm sure. she just got her cutting, and mine is happily enjoying the spring sun already and growing like crazy.
Apart from that, I love love, love the community on Greg, even though most of you are thousands of miles away. Be it talking orchids with the orchid lovers like @hoyaobsessed or @MariansOasis or @Araceae or talking hoyas with the hangout and enjoying a back and forth with @TheOddAsity. @theconservator's thread is always worth looking into, and there are so many more members that always have a kind word and funny planty story to tell.

@MusicalRedmint so true! I enjoy talking orchids and Hoyas with you too! And plants in general with #brunchataudreys or more recently #TheThread gang🙌. My love for plants and gardening 🧑🌾 came from my mom too. She raised African Violets and always had some type of ivy or fern or Christmas cactus going on! We were avid outdoor gardeners together. I didn’t get into tropical houseplants until after she passed, at 99+ years mind you! How she would have loved helping me care for them. 💚💚💚
@UnbrokenPotato is not just my coworker but my plant bestie. We can geek out over the strange and unusual plants that we adore and I just think the world of her. The bonus is I get to hang out with her everyday because we work together in the same dept. My best planty friend is not on this app. ( I will never give up trying to get her too, though) We call each other every Saturday (and even some Sundays) and talk for hours about plants. She gives me updates on hers and I do the same. The conversations are so engaging, we could literally talk for days on end about plants. 💚

While I do consider everyone here to be like family…the #gregplantfamily…there are two individuals that stand out as we have started talked outside of the app about all of our plant ups and downs…celebrating victory and fresh blooms as well as providing comfort and reassurance in times of doubt bc of epic fails like root rot @nellz4estfairyz is my home girl!!! She actually lives fairly close compared to most!! We haven’t met up yet but we talk about future plants of shopping and of course trading (mama, I already have a little prop box I made with ur name on it!!! Got some clippings going for you already AND OMG!!!!! I’m so happy you got the scindapsus you wanted!!! I can’t wait to see it!!! Just FYI, the mint is scheduled to arrive tomorrow!! Pics to come of course!)

Although she lives on the complete other side of the country more or less, lol we have much in common and let me tell you, she is a plant goddess who’s a fountain of plant knowledge and I just love to soak it all up!!! I have a monstera plant that she personally saved. There’s not a doubt in my mind, I would have lost the plant completely if it weren’t for her knowledge and kindness and genuine desire to help and pass on all she knows!! She helps me go down the mental check lists when an issues comes up and helps me focus in on what the issue is and where to focus or what to focus on to fix it…from getting that chunk a dunk into ur soil (yes girl!! U gotta see the new stuff I mixed up!!! ) to helping with white mold and air flow issues, she is just a wealth of plant knowledge and I can’t sing her praises loud enough!!!
So, from the bottom of my heart, @TheOddAsit and @nellz4estfairyz you guys are such beautiful, kind, and generous souls…I will forever be grateful that our paths crossed in this life…My life is better bc you both are in it and I thank you for that!! 🫶🏻🌱🤗

I’m happy to say I met some amazing ladies #brunchataudreys to me a friend is someone who you can not talk to for months and pick up like no time went by . I also have my daughter who has the same passion for plants so we’re always comparing notes .

The best of friends are the ones that are really close! One of my brothers and one of my sisters are all into growing plants with me and getting excited about new growth in plants. We’ve already started doing some planty stuff together this spring. I’m really looking forward to this summer to see what plants we grow and how they turn out!

My first real life planty friends, actually my first friends since I've moved to the city period, I met on #thebestappontheinternet @PrizedShadscale Kerry and @RealSimpleMama Sarah! Kerry and I had a swap day and got to visit for a little bit and Sarah and I were able to get together to do a swap and spend some time together at our local garden center. BTW, We're way over due for another visit ladies! I am so blessed to have met these two women! I'm convinced that plant people are a special breed unlike any other. Not only because of the plants they have shared with me but because of how willing they are to share their knowledge freely because this isn't some kind of contest but because it's a love we share of all things green 🤗 Below are just a few of the plants that they have gifted me. 💚🪴
@Boymom-plantmom : I have a few plant friends, but my favorite is when you have a son that is a plant lover too. I’ve given him a few plant when they came to visit. Sadly they didn’t survive the cold winter up north.

#GregGang are my plant friends!! Haha. Well I’m shy/socially awkward so talking at work is hard for me, but I discovered some of my coworkers are plant folks!! So now I have an excuse to chat and befriend them, and I’ll be gifting my aloes to one of them! I’m trying to connect them to this app so hopefully I can tag them soon 💕
I have two plant friends. My mom and a school friend/coworker. Growing up my mom always had plants it was like living in a jungle and I loved it. So now I’m in the process of creating my own indoor garden at home and now at my office. She instilled in me the love of all things green and is quick to give me advice on how to care for my plant babies.
@elisenavidad always tells me what I need to know about my plants! And is open to helping and sharing

My only planty friend is my mom’s old coworker ,Shelby, who gifted me cucumber plants, an avocado pit, and some wonderful hollyhock seeds. I learned so much about gardening from her, and I strive to use what she taught me in my growing garden every season🥰 She helped me master the art of utilizing as much garden space as efficiently as possible❤️ She’s not on Greg though😭

I have never had a green thumb. It wasn’t a black thumb either though. Maybe a beige thumb? But we just bought a new house and the kitchen windowsill is DEEP. Perfect for plants apparently. And I had always loved the idea of a a windowsill herb garden. So my step mother-in-law gifted me a lazy Susan with 5 herbs on it: cilantro, rosemary, sage, oregano, and basil. She has The Green Thumb and tried to make it as easy as possible for me, filling it with pebbles and giving me an easy watering schedule.

Honestly my plant friend is my mom, we didnt have a good relationship in my adolescent days but as an adult me and her really bond over plants because we both really learned patience with plants but we also have alot of the same taste in plants. I used to be bonsai only but its turned to alocasia, caudiciforms, monstera, platycerium etc. We both currently have a 3 year long rivalry to see who can get their heliconia rostrata to flower first. We cant leave a nursery without a plant its bad. Although our relationship was so bad at one point im happy that we can bond over plants now

I don’t really have any plant friends however I have a coworker who is a plant person like me and we share an office. We talk plants a lot. One day she came in the office with a pitiful looking plant and said she found it in the break room and it didn’t look like anyone was taking care of it so she repotted it and gave it some water. She doesn’t have the Greg app so I used the app to identify the plant and learned it is a Kalanchoe. I took a start off of it and am anxious to see how it grows. 😀 The pic is of the revived plant after my coworker nursed it back to health.

@SeasonalFanmoss Hi Kristi! 👋 Some of my favorite plants have been rescues! Luckily my husband works maintenance at an apartment complex and he started bringing me plants on deaths door asking me if I could save them. Some I could, some were just too far gone. Lucky for you Kalanchoe root super easy! It looks like a Florist Kalanchoe. The fun part is waiting for it to bloom to see what color the flowers are going to be! I currently have 2, yellow and red. @princesspitstop hello! Thanks for giving some info on the Kalanchoe! I’m kinda new to plants and just realized there are different kinds of Kalanchoe. I’m excited to see what color the flowers will be! I wonder how long they take to start blooming.
@SeasonalFanmoss Wonder no more 😂 Google how to encourage a Kalanchoe to bloom for more detailed instruction. I would take up a whole page cutting and pasting lol Here is part of it though! 😁

Dark Period: For 6 weeks, place the Kalanchoe in a dark space (like a closet or under a box) for 14 hours each day.
Light Period: Provide 10 hours of bright, indirect light daily.
2. Adjust Watering and Feeding:
Reduce Watering: During the 6-week period, reduce watering frequency and the amount of water given.
Stop Fertilizing: Do not fertilize the plant during the 6-week period. 💚🪴👍 My older more established Kalanchoe blooms at the end of every Winter without me having to do this but my newer one hasn't bloomed since I got it. I haven't tried this method yet so if you do let me know how it works. 😊

I realize I’m late to the party here cause the drawing has probably already been done. I have met many friendly people on Greg and a couple who have sent me things. One person in particular lives in or near Mason, Ohio with whom I have corresponded and she has sent me some zinnia seeds which I added to my garden year before last. I can’t think of her ID right now, it is in the tip of my tongue, but she is the one on Greg whose son takes amazing nature pictures that she posts sometimes. She lives relatively close compared to other Greggers and I would like to meet with her sometime. Otherwise I appreciate all the Greggers with whom I have crossed paths on Greg. No one has become super close but I am certainly open to that.
@AC73LoveCats Of course! I just got her recently, I took care of my mom’s while I was living with her and managed to get it to grow so long. And I fell in love so I had to get one of my own lol. Here she is!
#PlantyBoxofGoodies my cute little niece is getting into plants, dogs and stick on tattoos! (I’ve been laughing so hard.. she’s awesome 😎 she was at my moms yesterday telling her how trim her plants and why needed too.. she had she clippers her gloves.. it was so cute. She’s asked me to wait so she can help transplant and plant our plants this year. Couldn’t do it with out her!
@Ms.Persnickety I totally feel you. I am quite like you and one time worked at an airline in the parts room. Someone called me their friend. I said quite bluntly, "I'm sorry but we are not friends we talk at work and know each other but your my aquantaince. But if you or I would leave this job there would be no further contact. Which was true, I just said it like it was, this person and many others in the room were quite offended. 😢 I apologized while also pointing out that I don't understand why everyone is so angry with me."
I still struggle to understand because a friend is one that you love and care for. Keep in contact with no matter the distance. For me there are not many. Maybe I scare them away with my honesty and bluntness? ❤️
I do have my niece though, she's my plant friend and I never go visit her without bringing her a new plant. Then we always talk about plants! Her collection has grown and it's fun to see her collection and passion for them grow! 🌿

@SuperbRaspfern WOW, finally someone that understands where I‘m coming from. I am not sure but people don’t like to be confronted with reality. And it seems that they all want to be „liked „ . Well I have news for you, sadly I cannot go into details because my view point might just be too radical for some people. But I‘m okay if someone doesn’t like me, I sometimes don’t like myself either, just kidding!!🤣😂🤣 Must be my sick sense of humor!!
