Aglaonema repotting: sweet release!

@EarthlySoybean So I finally got around to checking my Aglaonema today. At first I unpotted and thought โ€œOk! These roots look alright.โ€ But something told me to remove some more soil and ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ™Š There were the cages!!! You wanna talk about a time cutting those things and untangling roots. Even though the roots look healthy, I canโ€™t imagine that she was happy in there. As I released her from her prison, it reminded me of when Iโ€™d take off my wig or my bra at the end of a long day ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚ FREEDOM!!! Sweet sweet release!!! So glad I saw your post. Iโ€™m almost scared to check my silver bay ๐Ÿ˜ฌ but now I have to. Question for you: my rectangular planter is only 3 1/2โ€ deep and 12โ€ wide. Do you think thatโ€™s enough space to accommodate the growth or can I just put her back in the original round pot sans her bondage? #ImInLoveWithAglaonema #Aglaonema repottinghelp">#repottinghelp #WeAreGregory #GregGang
Silver Bay didnโ€™t have any of those blasted cages!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ And the roots looked good too.
I dug through and there was just roots and soil so ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ
I think yours would be ok in your rectangular one. They do like to be a little root bound. But we need to repot them when they grow so big theyโ€™ve marched so close together they canโ€™t breathe. ๐Ÿ˜
@EarthlySoybean Thank you. Now Iโ€™m having a bit of a dilemma. Maybe Iโ€™m overthinking itโ€ฆ ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™„ The planter that I have is wooden. Can I plant in it or will it rot and corrode in time? Would the plant be better off with a plastic, glass, ceramic planter instead?
I just saw this online. Maybe Iโ€™ll line it with plasticโ€ฆ..? ๐Ÿค”
@MrsSmith yes
What do you mean when you say that the plant had cages? Like mesh or something?
@AstroMind If you zoom into the third picture you can see. Mine were plastic but Iโ€™ve heard they can be mesh as well. Each of those 2 plants root systems (from the last photo) were in a plastic pot that resembled a cage of sorts. Making a jumbly mess of the roots. I hope I explained that well.
@AstroMind More Google pics for reference
Not sure if those first pics came through
More Google info
@MrsSmith thank you so much for the info!
๐Ÿ˜ก ugggh! But so happy you checked and removed. She'll be happy now! Great job plant mama!๐Ÿ’–
@AwesomePlants I be learning from the best ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’š #WeAreGregory
Get up in dem' roots ASAP baby! ๐Ÿคฃ
Comparing it to taking off your bra after a long day is perfect ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ i imagine it really is like that for them hahaha ๐Ÿ˜…
@idkstephs ๐Ÿคญ I thought so too!!
@MrsSmith not to fault of them ๐Ÿคฌ Who do they think theyโ€™re kidding? Theyโ€™re restraining the plant from its normal growth pattern to make the god-awful buck! I myself prefer a plant in its natural state. Itโ€™s the same as cutting a Sweetheart Hoya leaf for Valentineโ€™s day and leading people into believing theyโ€™re buying a real plant. Oh, well. Rant over ๐Ÿฅด
