Red morning glory bud bloom: a good sign?

put a cutting of this morning glory in water three days ago. no sign of rooting yet but one of the buds bloomed this morning. I'm excited to see it of course, but does that bode well for the plant? in terms of growth, I mean.

It can take a few days to several weeks before a plant will root in water. Really just depends tbh. If there is new growth that’s always a good sign. If you want it to root quicker, put it into a vessel that is dark or opaque as this simulates what the roots will be like in the ground.
What a cute bloom!! Love how vibrant the color is! 😊
It’s so pretty, I’d enjoy it, but I understand your concern since blooming takes energy away from forming roots. I can’t tell wether you have any nodes in the water, but you’d want to make sure there are since that is where roots will form. If it were my cutting, I’d remove any additional buds, but it’s totally up to you. Also, I don’t think direct sun on a cutting is recommended, just in case the sun hits that part of your window, but bright light is good.
@StringPlayer thank you so much. this answers questions google hasn't been direct enough about. I do have nodes in the water, yes. read online that morning glory likes direct sunlight, so I figured east-facing window πŸ™ˆ... think I'd feel more comfortable taking out the buds too. playing the long game here lol. So just to be clear, no direct sunlight at all or an hour or two in the morning is fine?
