Gomez's baby dilemma: what should
Gomez is straight up KILLIN IT with the babies right now y'all! Five in total. (I know there's a ton of dirt in my windowsill, he falls over pretty often cuz his babies have made him start leaning to one side...) Thinking I may remove the bottom two to make room for the ones right above them, but haven't decided yet... What do y'all think? One of the bottom ones has visible roots growing from it's base... 🤔

@vvvelo do you think he'll have enough room down there for all those babies?
Mine only turns pink on the very tips, but that's probably because he gets different light and our winters aren't as cold here in Cali...
If you have a pic of yours, I'd love to see it. (:

@WickedValkyrie I guess mine is under stress now, cuz I use bright growlight and don’t water Clavatum often
@vvvelo so beautiful! 🫶
I only water mine once every 3 or 4 weeks and it only gets a couple hours of direct light (North facing) in the morning plus tons of bright indirect light the rest of the day. I've thought about moving him, but he honestly seems so happy in his current spot I just can't bring myself to do it...

@WickedValkyrie yours looks chubby and super compact, and very plump. There is not need to move it, in my opinion.
@vvvelo that's what I think as well. He's somehow more happy in this window than he was in the West facing window! Lol might cut one or two babies off and see how they do in the plant room, but not sure yet... We'll see how I'm feeling next time I water him. Lol
@WickedValkyrie Wow, yours main rosette is huge! 😮😍💚💙
My Sedum Clavatum has never gotten a rosette that big, but it's very compact with over 12 or more babies right now!
(I need to take an update pic for ya today. )
In my experience the plant growth spreads in clusters horizontally, so you might consider replanting in a into a wider, shallow pot.
Or... One of my favorite methods, chop the big rosette off to give the babies room and sunlight, and now you have two sedum plants! 😉 ✂ ✌🏽💚
More babies will pop off the base of the stem where you cut too!
Mine stresses pink only on the tips in both cold weather and increased sunlight ... But once it adjust to the increase in sun in late spring the pink fades....
So maybe the color variation is just a result of different growers? 🤔 🤷🏽♀️
Mine gets 5-6 hours of direct sun outside that's south /west facing...
I think that's why my growth is so small and compact.
When the temps get above 85 I shade it to increase the growth or it will go dormant.
So I guess keep it where it is if you like how it's growing or if you want more compact growth give it more light?
Also, I have mine in a soil mix that's 80% pumice 20% coco coir & water mine every 8-12 days in winter and 5-7 in summer.
IMO, very gritty soil + more waterings +more sun leads to smaller & compact, but consistent growth.
Hope that helps! 💚

@WickedValkyrie
P. S. My philosophy, is that if there are visible Arial roots on an established plant w/babies and it's not underwatered...
The plant is basically asking for you to chop & prop some it! 😉
Not everyone shares My Views but, I've followed this system religiously and I've always had good results for growth and probation. 😁

@roxy he's not actually that big, he's pretty smol and very chonky. (Full size Bic for comparison.) Those are macro shots in the main post, so that may be why he looks so big. 🙃
He's in "cactus, citrus, and palm" soil and only gets watered every three-four weeks/when his lower leaves start to show signs of thirst.
I actually watered him on Sunday and once his soil dries out a bit Imma do some surgery to remove the two lowest babies and mayyyybe also a bit off the top, now that you mention it. Lol 🫶
