I just received Delilah (my SC Monstera) who ive been DYING to meet! Her leaves r paper thin & had to untangle some thru the holes of other leaves without tearing them . Also many were furled all the way closed like a scroll. All the while im wondering y the leaves arebt the sturdy, shiny ones ive seen on all otger Monsteras! Please tell me its immaturity or result of shipping (its 9 degrees so theres that), sibce tge leaves were curled, i figured she was thirsty so gave her about 1C w/SuperThrive and sge drained well and on saucer now as shes in nursery pot. Please help me to get her tough & strong !! Counting on u guys! #monsteras #happyplants

1ft to light, indirect

6β pot with drainage

Last watered 3 weeks ago

They are great I love mine. The leaves are thin and quite fragile. So, I would absolutely expect some damage through shipping and about a month to fully recover.
Your cold would be a shock to her system. For now hold off on the fertilizer since I know for a fact she experienced shock. Sheβs going to need time to acclimate so she wonβt be eating or growing very much for a period of time. I donβt want her roots to get burned if itβs not being used and just sitting in her roots sheβll get burned, causing more shock.
You want a nice airy soil I use
1/3 peat moss
1/3 perlite
1/3 bark
She need a lot of aeration to look her best! And she likes to dry out slightly between waterings. I think that is why soooo many people get rot of their monsteras. They keep the water moist at all times instead of letting them dry out a little. I let all of my monsteras dry out at least halfway before I water again and they all do really good. Iβve never had dry edges or anything. And remember constantly wet soil leads to bacteria growth bringing with it root rot!
Hold off on the fertilizer until she has settled in and starts putting out new growth.
As any frozen leaves die off you can trim them off, never leave dried dead leaves they just invite unwelcome guests.
Donβt worry sheβll recover just be patient with her.

@RadCrownvetch23 tx just pray for me!! If all goes well, i plan to expand to all Monsteras (big dreams i have!! Haha)
@RadCrownvetch23 hows ur zz plant to care for? Im wanting a Raven one for some reason idky tho!
@BuffCaperspurge itβs very temperamental. I replanted it and divided it up to give some to my daughter. I either water it too much or not enough. Iβm hoping this app will help. Itβs an older plant not sure the years. I received from a neighbor after he passed.
@RadCrownvetch23 have u used perlite coir or lava bark etc as a mixture w yr soil? It may help get ur watering schedule more normal. Use a chopstick like a dipstick & if 1/2-3/4 of soil is dry then water it like Niagra Falls! Thwt will make wateribg a more regular event also if u have an inner pot w/drainafe holes u can stick ur stick (so to speak) in there to make sure the water made ut all the way to the most imp roots!!! Good luck i know u will succeed π«Άπͺ΄
@SuperbRaspfern tx u know me so well as i was just gonna ask y no comment?? Lol

The older she gets the more sturdy her leaves will become. Like us we also get tougher! π The newer leaves also always start out more fragile than ones that have been there a while. Donβt worry sheβll get there.
For now though she will remain fragile and need a soft touch. As the new ones sprout they seem papery but each day they sort of thicken and stiffen up. Although the more holes they have the more fragile they will seem like a paper snowflake. βοΈ
Sheβll be worth it as she starts growing be sure to give her a moss pole to climb. That way you can tie her on it as she grows so that leaves donβt get tangled and ripped trying to separate her. It REALLY helps. I check on my climbers at least once a month and walk around with my twine and scissors βοΈ and attach the vines. Plus it helps to not break them if you do it while they are young. I have a lot of climbers though they are my favorites β€οΈ

@SuperbRaspfern couldnt have said it better myself! After all, only fair; i take care of Sebastian every day, feed, bathe him, play w him, etc. A few moss poles seem like a fair exchange !!! Lol

Her name is Roxy, she will be 9 years old soon, we adopted her when she was almost 6. We knew we would likely have a few hiccups along the way with her and we have. But she is such a good girl she is worth it. She was an outdoor dog who never experienced the indoor life and she is loving her new life with soft beds, pillow and blankets. We are just happy to enjoy her and be able to provide what she needs to stay comfortable. She is our 4th rescue, and she is one of those βspecialβ ones who is perfect in every way!
