Hmm... Sorry deb @ilovemyplants) it can be really tricky, and I wouldn't recommend it unless one REALLY gets stuck (my PPP has shot several leaves that were halfway stuck and two that were going to die if I didn't help... That's the only time I step in and "help"! Lol). I use the flat of my longest nail to gently prise between the sheath folds - if you look closely at a new leaf there are two sides of a sheath that fold over it, to protect it whilst it develops, and sometimes they get stuck! So you get a bump lower den the leaf that is trying to free itself but the top is still squished against the previous leaf stem?
The pic is my (thankfully happy!) new painted lady leaf, but you can see where the two dark pink sectors are overlapping... That's where I gently slide my nail down to loosen it. Don't take it too far because you'll damage that delicate leaf!! But if needed use a new, sterilised razor blade (like a Stanley blade) to separate them and check it every day to be sure the leaf is working it's way loose.
Not sure why my PPP does it so often but it's the only one I've really had bother with! My other philos and Monstys seem to cope fine lol 🤣🤣 xx

@JenniB81 & @ILoveMyPlants - to help these leaves “let loose” you can also use a warm towel. Grab a paper towel, make it damp with warm water, squeeze out the excess water, then put the warm cloth on (or around) the leaf that is having trouble. Leave the towel there for about thirty seconds and it should help open the folds! 🤗
