New #AlocasiaPolly BLEEDING?!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿฉธ๐Ÿฉธ๐Ÿฉธ

Yea, yea I know itโ€™s not really bloodโ€ฆbut has anyone experienced this before and is it normal?

I have it close to a south facing window for now until I find a good spot for it.

0ft to light, indirect
5โ€ pot with drainage
Last watered 6 days ago
Even with research, theres not much to find about thisโ€ฆ My best guess is that its some kind of stress response maybe? @sarahsalith @KikiGoldblatt Should know more than me for sure!
Honestly? It looks like a drop of wine.

EDIT- thanks for the tag, @Blananaba
Wait- is this your plant from The Sill? I'd shoot them a message with pictures.

I wouldn't think that a Polly would have that color liquid in it. Every time I've broken a stem, it's been clear.
Yikes! And this was your new one! I found something on Reddit that others too have experienced. A couple people said it happened after they received their Alocasia....they think it's a shock response.

@Blananaba exactly! I only read about people asking about it, not an actual explanation! ๐Ÿง
@babyfiretiger13 l agree with @sarahsalith by sending The Sill a message with pictures on this. Other people I have seen post about issues with The Sill as well. They are very responsive from what I hear. Some even get new plants.

It does look like a drop of wine ๐Ÿท
@sarahsalith yup! Just arrived yesterday afternoon!! It does look like wine! ๐Ÿท The stem has clear liquid in it (third pic). Someone also posted the same issue on Redditโ€ฆso Iโ€™m not sure. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ I will email them, itโ€™s just an email response from the sill takes dayyyysss now lol
@sarahsalith lol no wine here!! Maybe a kid threw a blackberry full speed across the room ๐Ÿ˜‚
@babyfiretiger13 that would do it! ๐Ÿคฃ Good luck! (:
@melodey yup my brand spanking new plant!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ yea hopefully itโ€™s just that and not some other issue
@babyfiretiger13 I hope it's just that... The person on Reddit said they left theirs alone and it went away after awhile. Hopefully it's just stressed and recovers. โค๏ธ
@KikiGoldblatt yea I will, they are just very slooowwwww!

I agree it does look like wine! Cheers!! ๐Ÿฅ‚
@sarahsalith thanks! I emailed the sill so weโ€™ll see what they say the verdict is!
@melodey thanks โ˜บ๏ธ me too! Hopefully no dying leaves will come from this!! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I just emailed the sill, so weโ€™ll seee what they say!
So interesting. It is Easter week. Itโ€™s like plant Jesus ๐Ÿฃ
@Jilliebeanstalk I know! Every time I walk past it, I make the sign of the cross!! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ โ›ช๏ธ
@babyfiretiger13 ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ thatโ€™s great!!! โ›ช๏ธ I call dibs as itโ€™s favorite auntie and can we name him baby Jesus???? ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡ stigmata alert ๐Ÿšจ
Shocking. Do update what Sill says. We r all curious.
@Sleepysunday @Jilliebeanstalk @sarahsalith @KikiGoldblatt @melodey okayโ€ฆ.so the sill emailed me back and gave me the vague answer that this โ€œcould beโ€ guttation either their greenhouse watered it before it needed to be watered or it is not receiving enough light. So I need to either water it less frequently (๐Ÿ™„) or give it more light (another ๐Ÿ™„). So Iโ€™m kind of still scratching my head lol. What I think is that it was watered too much and maybe the natural dyes are coming out along with the excess water? ๐Ÿค” along with probably being stressed and acclimating to itโ€™s new home. On the bright side, it stopped though and actually had clear normal looking guttation this morning! Also a new leaf is unfurling pretty quickly, Iโ€™ve read these plants are boujie and will sleep on you if they donโ€™t like somethingโ€ฆso it must be doing okay right? Lol ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ anyways, thought Iโ€™d update you guys โ˜บ๏ธ ๐Ÿ’š
@babyfiretiger13 at least that's news. ๐Ÿคช I'm glad they got back to you and I'm glad your plant has a new leaf!!
@babyfiretiger13 at least they did get back to you in a timely manner. So I guess you will have wine ๐Ÿท guttation. Awesome news on the new leaf. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ
@sarahsalith I know news is news I guess! ๐Ÿ˜† and Iโ€™m surprised they got back to me so quickly, so thatโ€™s a big plus! Thanks for all the help โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š
@KikiGoldblatt thatโ€™s true! They did get back to me quickly! And I suppose wine guttation wine ๐Ÿท may be the norm! Iโ€™ll make sure to not place it any where near fabrics or carpets! ๐Ÿ˜‰Thank you for all your help โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š
@babyfiretiger13

A plant that is dripping water from its leaves is experiencing guttation, a process that occurs when a plant has taken up more water than it needs and the excess is released through the leaves. Guttation is a normal response and is quite common in alocasia. Reduce watering to resolve the problem.

It does look like wine. I found this online.
Very cool and creepy at the same time lol!
@babyfiretiger13 yes it is. We can just have a wine ๐Ÿท party ๐ŸŽ‰
@KikiGoldblatt a poisonous wine๐Ÿทparty๐ŸŽ‰!!! โ˜ ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚
