Trying this out:
I saw this in a instagram or TikTok post and thought I’d give it a try. Leca on the bottom, sphagnum moss in the middle, plant in a chunky well draining soil mix up top, and a wick running from the leca up to the soil. And a cute little. Any alocasia zebrina! 😍 #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #AlocasiaAddicts #Zebrina #leca #LecaLeague #selfwateringplanter #wickwatering #NewEnglandGregGang
I have one plant that’s super thirsty that I have set up like this minus the wick, honestly it’s great and I want to grow more plants in this method!! If you watch unplantparenthood she used to grow a lot of plants like this and she would call it a parfait.

I also tried something similar to the wick with a pot of leca that used be submerged, but wanted to move it to a wicking reservoir, I didn’t really feel like trying to upset it all the way to get the wick inside so I ended up making something similar with a wick running a wick outside, which is working great!
This was such an awesome idea. I immediately went into my IKEA cabinet and repotted mine! Good looking out Fam thank you so much. First time owning an Alocasia and I’m not gonna lie it’s kind of intimidating lol οΏΌ
@Alinaa yeah, I was wondering if this even needed the wick. I think the key for this plant will be to just water in small amounts and let it dry a bit between watering. It doesn’t really need that reservoir full of water wicking up allll the time. Maybe in the summer it will though. I bet my ferns would love this. πŸ˜ƒ
@Macstracks see my comment above ☝️. I love this idea but it may even provide too much water for the alocasia, depending on how you run your wick, and how you water. It I live in a very low light house, and lately it’s been very cloudy and rainy, this may be the r perfect set up for brighter growing conditions.? Let me know how you make out!
