What fresh hell is this?
I got this Chinese Evergreen about a year ago and decided to repot due to the time I’ve had her (and the root growing out of drainage holes lol) So I take her out to find all these mini pots I had no idea were there!! I’ve actually never seen this before in all the plants I’ve repotted from store pots. I have run into the twist ties but not this! I’m just going to get them off to the best of my ability and repot as usual but I guess this is a lesson in investigating the situation of what’s under the soil sooner! I’m sure she’ll be ok yeah?

That is so messed up!!!! I'm really glad you decided to repot before she had issues. WOW!!! I'm sorry 😒
@LiftLashPlant Oh wow 😳 That's one of my fears for real. I bet its growth is going to take off after you remove them!
Wow, I have never seen anything like that!! 😳
SHE IS FREE!!!
I carefully cut the two mini pots into pieces because the roots were so tangled through the small slats.

I’m so glad I decided to repot before she had major issues too!
They may become two separate plants I’m not sure but need to decide pretty quick πŸ˜‚
@MariansOasis I have never seen such a thing either! I’m an β€œadvanced beginner” plant parent I’ve been indoor plant parenting for about 2.5 years but I’ve repotted many many plants from the store and never have I seen this crap. They should really have some kind of warning label for this πŸ˜‚
Meet Virgil and Tylin. I gave them new names since I needed a second one anyway and they needed names meaning strength and resilience
Oh my gosh, I can’t believe that they potted like that! That’s insane. Good thing you checked when you did. They look beautiful and so happier now. Gorgeous!
I have had this a same issue now I repot as soon as possible I cut them off with scissors
Them net pots are usually meant for hydroponics. It's how many plants were bulk raised before they're potted for sale. Unfortunately many don't seem to remove the pots.

Aquatic plants are sold straight from the net pot, but with rockwool instead. I personally use the net pot for some of my smaller plants [some Cryptocoryne and baby anthurium and philo], but it's more like a hydroponic experiment
@LiftLashPlant So good looking 😍
@Araceae are those the same as β€œorchid pots”? I was thinking of experimenting with other plants, because the holes allow for more airflow, right?
@DesertGreen no, orchid pots are bigger, the slits are smaller and typically made of either terracotta or hard plastic. These are made of cheap, flimsy plastic
@Araceae wow, those roots are pretty powerful to grow that strong and healthy, despite the pots🀩 Congratulations πŸŽ‰
