Good morning☕️🌞 to #TheThread
🥱🥱🥱...🫩 is it FRIDAY yet? Ive only worked 1/2 a day so far this week but man im ready for the weekend already! Im really feeling sorry for all of you that have worked the whole week😤. Ive been given the rest of this week and all of next to complete the job i picked up yesterday. They know my back hasnt been letting me sleep much so if theyve been trying to give me a few extra days to finish🙌. But that means i can take it easy the rest of the week and not over do it. I had to wake up this morning and go straight for cappucino instead of coffee. I totally forgot i needed to go get more yesterday. As much as i love my caps! Its JUST NOT! A cup of good old slow drip coffee that i usually start my days with. Cappucino is usually my 3rd or 4 th cup lol. Im going to end up running to the gas station in a few cause i NEED IT!🤤🫩😤!

Picture 1 is from @ILoveMyPlants trip to the home depot where she scored this amazing ???🤷‍♂️😂 for 1/2 price. Im not sure what it is, but i know i love the white leaves with the green accented veins😍. Its such a visually soft and appealing plant that im not sure i couldve passed it up even at full price!
Photo 2 is an awesome hoya polyneura that @SunSoilLove love has been expertly caring for at her jungle oasis. These have quickly become a must have hoya for ALOT of #HoyaHeads recently. They have such a intriguing shape and growth habit for a hoya that i feel alot of people mistake it for something else.
It looks like watering day for these stunning plants @CourtlyKingfern urban jungle. Each perfect plant had its own tag so ill let you figure the names out. But WOW😱 your doing a great job!
Out last 2 photos both came from @Ms.Persnickety. This excellent agave sure caught my eye with the 2 tone green leaves flanked by tiny little protective teeth. But if those dont get you then its big pointy tip sure will! Better be careful with that beauty! I bet shes sipping morning iced coffee from her EPIC #gregmug about now🥰. Hopefully its the BEST cup of joe ever 🙏!

Thats the end of the show for the day. Hope everyone has an easy day ahead! STAY SAFE🥰. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #GregPlantShop #GregGang #GreggersSupportingGreggers #Hoya #Philodendron #Monstera #AloeVera #Agave
I had to stop@halfway through for that coffee run lol☕️😍🙌
@TheConservator did someone say ☕️ ❓
#TheThread @TheConservator Good Morning, it’s still as dark as my iced coffee right now and my eyes are barely open. Thank you for another wonderful post this morning and featuring the pointy agave, and the iced coffee. That made me laugh 😂 ! Nothing you can do to get rid of your back pain ? My back pain is not constant, it mostly comes when I bend down a lot, or wear shoes without proper arch support . The messed up back stems from a horse back riding accident in my youth. Compression fracture L2 or L4 (can’t recall which one, nor does it matters)? I got 11 plants to water today, later on of course. I’ve been looking to see if there are any pics to share. I like the lively greens of the Golden Pothos, and would you look at that. The African Milk tree is growing a little arm. Well that’s it for now, don’t work too hard. And everyone have an outstanding almost Friday!
@TheConservator Gooood Morniing 🪴🐥 #TheThread slept like a bear last night! Thankfully there’s a ☕️ maker in my room. @ILoveMyPlants is that a scindapsis treubii moonlight that you picked up? She’s pretty! 🤩 @CourtlyKingfern your watering setup is so organized and I love the cute labels 😍 plants obv loving life in your care 👍 @Ms.Persnickety just ❤️ that agave-she’s got a rally stripe on each leaf 😎 be careful looks like she bites! @TheConservator Tks for including my polyneura in lineup 😀 here’s a pic of her tiny sister that’s already throwing new leaves 😄
Hope everyone is right now enjoying a cup of something good, and their plants, of course. 😃
@Ms.Persnickety im not sure if they can do anything. Ive never really tried. Been to the doctor a couple times for ut but since im uninsured its pain meds
@SunSoilLove im still thinking about goung back to bed for a few hrs after meds kick in. Which should be any minute .
If only i was poor then the government would pay for my back to be fixed so i could sit around and collect welfare 🙌😂 lol
@SunSoilLove You are absolutely right, she does bite. And did so yesterday as I was getting ready to take the picture. The bite drew blood 🩸. And it surprised me (then of course I cursed, cause it hurt) But still it’s a cute plant. Am I making excuses for my clumsiness ?
@TheConservator Be careful what you wish for !!
@Ms.Persnickety all fair in love and plant hoarding?😆
@Ms.Persnickety oh i know they woukdnt pay for me anyway. After all@im a singke old white guy with thats to@old to pop out kids i cant pay for so politucians can say they need more money! Lol ..... sry little political there but 🤷‍♂️
Still true !
If i hac 5 kids and no job then theyd pay lol
Good morning all, dragging today and not sleeping well. Heading in to work and got a few watered this morning. Have a lot more to finish tonight or tomorrow. Oh Friday how I need you…..
@RealSimpleMama good luck🙏🤷‍♂️😂
I just headed to work. Screw going back to bed, that does me no good !
Atleast i was able to get to the driveway this morning🙌
Mornin!! School shopping for two teenagers today 🤯🤯🤯 Need I say more ?? My day is over .. haha.
So true story. Back in the day.. well maybe 15 years ago exotic angel brand used to sell a bunch of different Hoyas in a hanging basket I am sure y’all are familiar with the brand .. and one of the choices they would offer would be the poly or the fish tail Hoya!! A 6” basket for $20!!!! Now those fish tails are $$$$ .
Any who @Ms.Persnickety love the new growth on your euphorbia !! On of my fav group of plants I have quite a few different ones !!!
@Hoyaobsessed i still dont think the reg polys are that much. But the vg ones def arent cheap
Little angeks still sells hoya at lowes. They have 3-4 kinds there now. @Hoyaobsessed
Think theyre 20$ for 8" hanging basket. Ir they have the 6" other brand for 16$ i think. Really last time i was there a week ago they had 4-5 kinds of hoya in hanging baskets. And they had 3 kinds of lipsticks too.
@TheConservator yep they are finally coming back out with Hoyas I know there for a while esp during and after Covid they weren’t putting out any Hoyas !!!
Tbh they gotta just start selling more and more hoyas at big box stores. They always sell out so it only makes sense to increase selection and inventory🤷‍♂️
@Hoyaobsessed they had really nice curtissi littke angels for 20$ im still 🤔🤔🤔🤷‍♂️😂
Not sure the other 2 types i saw. Both just true green small to med leaf size
If i think long enough theyll sell out lol. I only saw 4
Oh my gosh…the Polyneura 😭😭🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
@TheConservator I got a curtissi angel plant about a month ago it was a nice one and repotted it same day and so far so good!! I am really watching the water right now since it was saturated and those plants are not easy to repot !!!!
I don’t have a poly I want one … I used to have one pre divorce 🤯🤯🤯
@Hoyaobsessed id bottom water it tbh.
@Hoyaobsessed im not a huge fan of the poly🤷‍♂️
Good evening everybody (or afternoon for you, I guess).
Hot day around here. I just looked it up: if I want to provide my dog with a big walk today, I just need to wait until the temperatures drop. According to the forecast, at 3am it's finally a good temp again.
Normally I'd just consider driving a bit to the next forest, but I lent out my carport for the neighbors birthday party, and I really don't want to play parking spot roulette when I get back.
I hope your hard earned drip was delicious. I know the feeling, for me it's the other way around though. There are many days when I really don't want drip. Anything espresso will do, cappuccino most of the time. No caps machine, just classic good old dark + foamy caffein in a tiny cup 😀
Hmmm
No, don't be silly.... I need to sleep.
Externalising my inner monolog (and its implications for my mental health 🤪) aside, we had a lazy day over here. After yesterday's cattleya frustration and the ensuing mess from a spontaneous repot, I decided to do no plant chores whatsoever today and just enjoy my blooms.
Have a beautiful day everybody, I'm off, getting some decaf so that at least I get something coffee-ish
@Hoyaobsessed in case you missed it at the end of yesterday's thread: I went on and on about the burmanica and sp. vietnam which are both pretty similar to the polyneura. At least regarding those pendant branches and those pointier leaves that are placed in pairs. The leaves are more slender and in my opinion the blooms are very special.
Just in case you are not only looking for polyneura but rather something similar in growth. In that case it could be worth it to keep your eyes peeled.
@MusicalRedmint blasphemy😱 .... decaf isnt coffee🙄
Great one is
I get mine from the same shop where I get my espresso beans. They send their own beans (perfectly roasted) to a small company that decaffeinates them (or decaffeination first, then roasting? No expert, just know they do it themselves from the same beans). Most decaf tastes not quite as good because the beans are just of a different quality or badly roasted. Not the case here. I'm pretty sensitive to taste and smell, and I swear I can not taste the difference if I compare the same batch. 😀
And sometimes I just like coffee for the taste alone. During the day I get my caffeine only from tea anyway.
Just took a look at the weather, if it's at least cooled down for a short walk now.... but nope: temperature even climbed an additional degree (C, so i guess roughly 2 °F?). For context: it's 5.30pm here. Not really a time where you'd expect that.
@MusicalRedmint yeah i was jk i dont ever do decaf but i should because 75% of the time im drinking coffee its not for caffeine or to wake up. Just enjoy it🤷‍♂️
I actually dont know? Id bet they decaf first then roast but 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
I do both. And I always thought, "well decaf would be great, but it always tastes... off". I wouldn't touch big brand decaf with a 9 feet pole (well to be fair, the same goes for big brand coffee in general, but somehow decaf is worse). But luckily i kept trying. And at this point, I'm very sure that it's a problem with the beans many sellers use, not the decaffeination process itself.
New edition of: "wanna guess what this is?"
I never would have thought I could, but I’m saying it now and I swear it’s true: I trained myself to drink my coffee black!!!! It took all summer but then I get my caffeine without breaking my fast (aka creamer with a hint of coffee). I used to also try and tolerate DECAF INSTANT which is like half a step away from hot garbage 🤣
@MusicalRedmint i have no clue.
@TheConservator 😁 the sheath my very flouffy cattleya has had since at least march finally looked as though something was happening inside. 🥳🥳🥳 I've been checking and re-checking since yesterday and was sure today and cut it to confirm (and because I'm relatively past free and afraid of rotting it). It does look like it's not 100% intact, but still: yay! I never thought I might get a flouffy light and heat ravenous cattleya to bloom in my conditions .
Or the answer could just be "a Georgia O'Keeffe inspo pic" 😅
@Hoyaobsessed Thanks I ‘m not sure what that cactus is up to ! It was growing horizontally for a while and now it’s growing sideways. I mean like new arms. It’ll be interesting to see how it ends up. It is still in the original plastic growers pot it came in and before long I will have to repot that bad boy into a bigger pot. Even now I am very hesitant to move it around too much because it could topple over.
@MusicalRedmint lol def coukd be that!
@Ms.Persnickety that light on the sides probably making it grow out instead of up. But they do just occasionally grow out to just for space.
I just wrap my cacti in a towel or rag when i repot them so i dont get poked. And it helps stabalize them too sonetimes with taller ones
@MusicalRedmint I hope it cools down for you after sunset. Not sure exactly where in DE you’re located. How is the humidity? The afternoon Thunder Boomers just started, it looks as if I’m not going anywhere either this afternoon.
@TheConservator Thank you that is a great tip. I never even considered that. But I will definitely try that when it is time to repot ! I do actually have a pair of those heavy duty yellow leather work gloves but even those don’t protect you from getting stabbed !
Ooops here are today’s temps . It’s not so much the temperature it’s the humidity that makes me feel worn out.
@Ms.Persnickety I worked in a greenhouse last year and year before that and they had a ton of these euphorbias and they were huge !! I love your spiral !! I’ve been eyeballing it !! I have quite a few different ones … they are easy if you don’t overwater and really can tolerate lower light conditions or sun…
@MusicalRedmint today’s high is 103 for me .. a small storm is passing and now it’s 94 … but it will climb back up soon with lots of humidity
@Ms.Persnickety we are up in the north. So yes, humidity is a thing, definitely, but at least there is a light breeze. Ten o'clock and still 75F. But at least the pavement is cool by now, so a walk with the dog is doable after all.
My only cactus is still tiny but I love my terrascaping tweezers from the pet shop for moving it. They are long and flat enough that they have amazing grip strength and don't harm the plant. Great for repotting orchids too, that's why I got them in the few first place. Stay cool and don't get pricked.
@Hoyaobsessed get all your shopping done yet?
@TheConservator I did for the most part … hundreds later 🤯🤷‍♀️😡😬 kids are expensive especially teens … am now a nap !!!!
@Hoyaobsessed i drovecright passed a different lowes On my way home today and had to stop and see!🤷‍♂️😂 they had 2 of those curts so i grabbed one and ran before i saw anything else to tempt me lol. Tbh the curt is almost a challenge plant to me now. I bought 2 last year from lowes on discount cause they were in terrible shape. Killed 1 right away. The other i have bits and pieces of growing still though. I have 2-2" pots in terrariums that look great. And i have several props of it in a selfwatering planter with straight fine perlite. Thats still questionable though.
@Hoyaobsessed hundreds? I figured thousands these days 😱
@RealSimpleMama yeah. My drip is all also black. Always. Both parents never drank it any other way, and when I started working I was still 100% vegan at a time when milk alternatives in coffee were still 🤢... and let's be honest, it's hard to survive in any teachers' lounge without coffee
Here it is
These little angels are s lighter green that those 6" altmans. But maybe its just light
@Hoyaobsessed I already assumed our temperatures aren't even remotely close to yours. Germanywide we reached "only" a high of around 97 F, I think. But I think this doesn't really translate to Texan heat. For one, like Monika already said, the higher the humidity, the worse we feel it, because the body doesn't cool as efficiently. (That's why e.g. England is struggling so much more with temperatures most of you wouldn't even register as really hot. ) And for another, it's a question of how much time you actually have to spend in the heat. I usually walk or bike to most places I need to go, be it shopping, visiting friends, doctor's visits, or sometimes even work. And it's the same to varying degrees with most people I know. Leisure activities? Same. That adds up to a lot more time outside in the sun. And lastly, most buildings around here don't have AC. Mind you, we don't need it most of the time because our houses are built in a way that they only heat up veeeeery slowly, but once the brick is warm... the fun begins. (Luckily we had some cooler days in between heatwaves, though, so my apartment has stayed cool enough that I even was blissfully unaware of the heat outside for most of the day today. Just saying, generally, that's also a reason, why we already start b***ing at lower temperatures)
@Hoyaobsessed I take back the part about the dry heat in Texas (I know you also said as much). I reread your comment and wanted to check my preconceived ideas and so I did what every normal person would do: I went down a rabbit hole of comparing climates, median humidity levels throughout the year and the summer specifically, in different cities and regions. Fun fun fun. 😀 at least I've learned a new word. Muggy? Apparently?

The rest of my argument for why we poor Germans have it soooo much worse, still stands, though. 😉 Sry. I'm just annoyed that I neglected my dog so much today.
@MusicalRedmint i actually dont think anyone has it worse or better than anyone else tbh. What it really boils down to is what your body is use to. If you have lived in 1 climate most your life well@bad days are the worst no@matter the heat ir humidity and good days are always the best no mattee the heat or humidity. People in alaska wear shorts and t shirys in 40 degree temps and sweat lol people in hawaii freeze in 50 degree temps.
If youve never had a/c well your use to no ac. If youve never been without it you woukdnt sleep when the temps 75 lol
@TheConservator @MusicalRedmint when I moved from to California to Texas I thought it was sooo humid here in the part of Texas I am in. Cali is hot but dry air even living close to the coast… and now I’ve been here for so long the humidity here isnt close to the humidity further south or east Texas! I was being a baby!! But to live somewhere without AC … my mind can’t even comprehend that!! I will take the heat over the cold any day!! Hate winter love the snow but I enjoy it indoors. And where I am in Texas it does snow. And before I moved here I never thought it snowed in Texas !!!
@TheConservator hey! Did you just get that? Maybe I’m jumping the gun and haven’t read further up yet on the thread since my nap!
@TheConservator yes hundreds … unfortunately they wait until the first day of school to give the kids their school supply list … so I will be back out shopping next week
@TheConservator yep now I see your Lowe’s trip 🤯 I’ve killed them too but I am trying again.. and if you have it in your terrarium that’s telling me a moisture loving Hoya and I probably underwatered mine in the past thinking otherwise . Are you going to repot it ????
@RealSimpleMama I can drink coffee black in a pinch such as the clear liquid diet for colonoscopy prep. I still prefer a little cream in my coffee. I trained myself to drink it without sugar/sweetener, but I’m not motivated to move to black coffee. I’m not a real heavy cream user. My parents drank instant decaf. NASTY! After I started drinking coffee, I had to pack my own when I went to visit them. I learned the meaning of the caffeine withdrawal headache. They lived out in the country. Wasn’t like you could run to the nearest Starbucks!
Hello to #TheThread thanks for the shout out . It was new to me too it’s a moonshine pothos. @TheConservator Apparently they are fairly hard to get and didn’t show up till 1989 . . Beautiful plants in the spot light but I missed seeing them in the posts . Oh ya it’s seven o’clock here and I’m having a much needed cup of coffee ☕️.
So no the best pics but I didn’t stage them or anything for their selfies … my green/silver string of hearts is in a 2” pot lol time to repot?? I’m afraid to repot this one…
My Wilbur graves good roots and growth going on.. I have a nice terracotta to plant it in but it’s just not big enough yet…
And my Hoya fitchii (probably spelled wrong) loves the trellis!! Took to it right away!! Fast grower !!!!!
@ILoveMyPlants I like the moonshine !!! Will add it to my wish list!!! @TheConservator Lowe’s had the coolest billie a light and dark green one .. I don’t know much about them but I like them!! But it was $30 because of the stinking pot had a pole already as well….
@TheConservator and #TheThread ! Been shampooing & cleaning floors today along with watering my oasis. All caught up at the moment! 😮‍💨.
Thanks for the mention of my watering hole plants. 🙏🏻 had lots of turns in that today.
And yes it is the eve of Friday! 🙌🏻💃💚🕺

Lot of coffee lovers here! Would drink it all day but then you could understand what I was saying .. 🤭 1-2 cups are my limit. Love both hot and cold coffee.

My deer families are back tonight 7 behind house I could count, and 8 at least in the side field. Love to watch them. 🫠

Sonny love the plant you found! 😍
Has anyone tried this. If so what did you think?
@RefinedSandwort black coffee is my go to!!! It tastes the way it smells !!
@Hoyaobsessed im going to repot it. But im not stripping all the old media. And im going to bottom water only.
@CourtlyKingfern i havent tried it. I havent had instant coffee since the last time i was roughing it camping like 25 yrs ago lol. Good old folgers crystals🙌😂
Been camping since then but wouldnt call those roughing it
@TheConservator yes, 🤢 my first thought to instant coffee as well.
Love the dark Sumatra type myself. My brother owned a Jersey Mikes once and got me hooked on those type beans. 🫠♥️😍

Never been camping but never thought I would like it either. Lots of folks in my area will go on weekends to camping places. Especially me being near the mountains with waterfalls & such 🏔️
Never been camping 😱! @CourtlyKingfern ? I love it but not so much the roughing it style anymore. Gotta atleast have a grill and coffee pot now lol. But i even prefer camper campung in my old age.
My sister has a hoyse on tablerock lake in missouri 4 hrs away, so ive just gone there anytime ive wanted nature and water in the last 15 yrs prob @CourtlyKingfern
@TheConservator yes, Never… ha,
But I do understand,
when we ever went away on vacation I just thought I wanted someone to wait on me not the rough it type when I want to get away. More like pamper me style. 🫣😳

I have friends who just in the last year sold their home and everything to camp the remaining of their life. So they think…

They go to all different places. Which sounds nice. Or to some a dream. Mine… not so much . 😝

A lake location sounds peaceful. I feel I live far enough out to have the nature part pretty often here. But no lake. Just a small pond and a river near my house.
@CourtlyKingfern im the opposite hotels and cities arent a vacay to me. Just a bunch of stress!
City vacays i need a vacay after my vacay! Lol country vacays i feel refreshed
I was a very rough night. Trying to muster up a post for the day but im going slow🤷‍♂️
@TheConservator
I understand the city and hotel deals. That kinda is stress..

I want ocean 🌊… like as in ocean front steps away. The sounds of waves and all. That’s were my heart belongs for sure. If only I could have one place on the ocean and the other where I live now.. 🫠 my life would be complete… I think? 🤔

Sorry you are dealing with not sleeping. Nothing like waking up tired… and trying to work too.

I only got 4.5 hours but feel fine after (my coffee) 🤭 at the moment.
It’s early yet. No post is needed. It can wait
@TheConservator @Hoyaobsessed

Though in general, I agree, it's not quite that simple. Yes, the body gets used to conditions, but the weather around here is very changeable. So having 2 weeks of somewhere in the upper 60es and then in the 90es and then back again is not something you just get "adapted" to. Neither are temperatures that bodies - especially older ones or one with certain conditions - just biologically can not cope with anymore. heat close to our body temperatures or even over with limited effectiveness of perspiration because of humidity or stagnant air can be an even deadly mix. In that case, it all comes down to culture to deal with it and has nothing to do with adaptability. Siestas are an example. As are our building practices that are very well adapted to our temp fluctuations. But since the noticeable beginnings of climate change, the heat waves have changed drastically. They've gotten longer and more intense. And we aren't yet equipped for that. Most houses can withstand shorter periods of heat and it's still cozy, but after that it's an oven - and that just wasn't the norm even a few years back. Etc.
As for Texas.. have to say my mind was a bit blown. I always associated it with rather dry heat, just like Cali😅
@MusicalRedmint my mind was blown too after I moved here due to the weather . I am not sure if where Sonny is it is like this as well… for one it can cloud up rain cats and dogs and then clear out right away and be sunny again…. Cali was not like that… that amazed me !!!
Also it can be 75 out one day and be 40 out the next… that has happened too!!!
So yes I understand we get drastic changes here too and no your right the body can’t adjust !!!
I have never understood all the hoopla about coffee. I have always been a tea lover and can take or leave coffee. Except my husband makes me cold coffee for the evening when I am home and it is half milk. Otherwise it’s tea, or water, and the occasional treat of a Dr. Pepper.
@AC73LoveCats i suppose thats just different strokes for different folks lol. I never undetstood tea🤷‍♂️. Sure i like it for a tefreshing cold drink. But hot tea? Not so much. I liked it as a kid, but by 14-15 i had migrated to coffee. Guess once you get that morning coffee bug its hard to get rid of.
