So here is the vanilla I forgot to post, I need to play more with pole and the vanilla to make it fit better 🤣 I believe this one 59” inches #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #NewPlantMom #OrchidLovers #PetsAndPlants #PlantCorner #BeforeAndAfter #PlantShelfie #RarePlants #PlantID
That’s so cool!
I wish loads of vanilla flowers [and pods if you pollinate them maybe 👀?]! When it grows like 3 metres of course, darn vanillas with huge growth but tiny flowers 😂
Any tips for keeping the bottom of the moss pole wet?
@MamaLinne honestly, I’m not a person who’s used a lot of moss poles. I wish I had better advice from @DreamMachine or @Araceae and/or Heidi might have better advice for @princesspitstop. I’ve been using tree fern and bamboo sticks. I finally got this one just because the vanilla really needed the climb. But if you get some tips, pass them along! Mine is by a humidifier, so I know that’s going to help keep it moist as well. 🤣🫶🏻
@Araceae thanks! I know vanillas can be so tricky to actually pollinate; I’ve gotten a couple of little flowers and they are so cute and a white-ish yellow… they are amazing… but like cacaos they are pollinated by the insects that are native to their home climates… dang it… so doubtful I will, but I love the vine regardless 💕🫶🏻
@MamaLinne the easiest way is, ngl just keep directing the water to the bottom. Ppl also like to put an inverted bottle of water on top, let the water slowly drip down. My poles are too tall and skinny for that however, so when watering i direct most of the water to the top of the moss pole and let it run down
@Araceae good tip, so is it kinda almost self watering?
@Araceae, if you can see, that’s what your new philo reminds me of. Is that anthurium the veitchii? The second picture. Do you know what the name of the Albo plant is? I completely spaced the name.
Yes the anthurium is the veitchii. The variegated one is hard to tell, i'll need to see the stem and petioles to properly id
@Araceae @Idplantthat mine have a little slow drip cup on top that I can fill- if I fill it a couple of times in a row, sometimes it will soak all the way down. I’ve heard of people putting self watering sticks IN the moss pole but I think mine would topple
@MamaLinne @Idplantthat @Araceae I am still quite inexperienced with poles. I’ve made a few, but I’m realizing I’m just not a fan of sphagnum moss. It either becomes water repellent OR it instantly molds in my cool wet climate. Really *anything* I would have to drip water onto would mold in my climate. I also do not like having to use plastic or metal mesh for a pole. It just doesn’t jive with me, eco-wise.

Currently, im trying to source a tree fern fiber pole because for one, it doesn’t need a mesh surround, and if you spritz it, it’s supposed to sink in instantly, and be easy to attached on extenders. My fav plant supply lady who aims to keep them at a better price than AZM has been out of stock because they were so wildly popular.
@DreamMachine, that’s what I’ve been using! I never used moss poles on tree fiber, but mine have the opposite effect: they dry too quickly lol
@Idplantthat That’s awesome! I found some red sorghum seeds the other day when I was filling my new seed chest up and have no idea how I got them maybe as a bonus during a big purchase who knows! But I’m going to see if they germinate this spring and see how it goes! Where did you get this vanilla beauty?
@Lynsplants oh goodness… I think I got it as a cutting from Etsy a while back… but to be honest I’m not really sure. I’d think anywhere that sells orchids would have them 😂
