Tried to make myself pot a few things last night , but ended up just cleaning up my potting bench / room mess. At least thats done π€·ββοΈ. Maybe after some coffee and breakfast ill feel a little more motivated. We had an awesome display of photos yesterday! It was hard to choose, but on to the show! 1 is from @WelsomeRhodotus with her beautiful display of plants π€©! Pucture 2 was brought to us from @SweetAzurebluet, that is one shiney gliwing plant you have there π. Number 3 was added to #TheThread by @MariansOasis yesterday. I just love those lillys with all those sprays of blooms π₯°. #4 is a phal orchid blooming BEAUTIFULLY @Ms.Persnickety plant oasisππΊπΉ. Good morning everybody.
I've decided to check in and generally have an absolutely lazy day today. I'm due for one of those.
Still not up to rereading the last few threads, but for now, just know that I'm suitably impressed by all those flowers of the day. Especially the display by @WelsomeRhodotus and, of course, @SweetAzurebluet 's gorgeous orchid.
And all of that new growth curtesy of our thread-master π
My own hoya blooms are showing along but somehow are still so very slow. But in the other hand, do I really want them to open? They are so very cute like this as well. My schilleriana is still in bloom btw, I'm spite of my dog and me playing catch with it across the room some weeks back and breaking the spike in half. the first flower will wilt soon, but even this it manages with grave and beauty. Just look at that gorgeous discoloration pattern. Sigh.
Of and of course I destroyed yet another spike 2 days ago. Of another highly anticipated bloom. My general clumsiness seems to be in overdrive this spring. But in turn two phals have started producing unexpected spikes as well, so I guess it evens out.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I will now do as my dog and π΄ for a while after all this talking π he seems to have the right idea of how to approach this day.

I actually am getting thd feeling all this plant fever is about to cone to an end. Im seeing it on fb and just stores. Prices stopped going up and now theyre drastically dropping on fb. Everyone and their dog decided to start selling plants. Now its flooded ! Not onmy that but interst is slowing. I mean the fact is, people can only house so many plants before there is no room! Or they start losing em and get discouraged.
@MusicalRedmint glad you get an easy day today π sometimes hoya blooms can be soooπ€―! Cant they ? Awwwπ₯° hes a cutey!
@Araceae very nice looking! And only 11$π±π€―
Sorry to say but greg may be a weed that gets plucked . Im no longer convinced after the @elisenavidad thing that they have the ability to fix greg?
@TheConservator what Happened to Elise and Greg? Guess I missed that one! What is that super silver Hoya you have in your white rack? Iβve included and pic with it circled. I have not been plant shopping in a bit so I have not noticed prices going down . I have been a plant βenthusiast β my whole life lol never going to stop collecting them. I actually got my footsteps Hoya when I was a young girl when people called them wax plants β¦ then as an adult they blew up! @MusicalRedmint your doggie is the cutiest thing ever !!! And I love the philo @Araceae posted !!! My Thai has a new leaf and it is the biggest she has put out ! Biggest leaf on the plant! I did pot it up a size before she threw it so maybe the bigger pot size was the cause . Rainy here all night ! Storms and rain! High today is 54 low 36 so in a panic I moved all my outside plants inside. I always say we get another cold snap before Easter ! No one takes heed to my advice ! Plant after Easter in Texas !!!! Happy morning friends !
@Hoyaobsessed thats a nova ghost. But im not sure if its a different variation cause it doesnt look like my other nova ghost π€·ββοΈ
@TheConservator π
@TheConservator might be 2 kinds luje the graves china and graves russia. And i think@mathilde has a russia and a china too
@Hoyaobsessed did you look through thise purge packs?
I did look! I am surprised you refrained! I am at my limit for now . I have props in 3 windowsills lol and in two boxes !!! I canβt for the life of me remember how long you said I should leave the ones in the plastic cups.. I have been going back to work and my brain is working overdrive all of the time.
The ones i rooted you can switch at anytime! Just stay small ofc ! @Hoyaobsessed
That publicalyx was in a bigger terra cotta pot. I took it out and crammed it in that cup lol @Hoyaobsessed
@TheConservator it is doing beautifully! They are such an easy grow pretty plant! I am in hopes my two mature ones will give me a bloom this seasonβ¦. I am going to have to repot those monsters into 8β hanging pots. Maybe throw them outside for the summer .
Im at the pount myself where uts gotten overwhelming. Its not so much the amount of plants , but more that ive added alot quickly, added alot of cuttings whuch require more care , and just needing to get it all into a routine! @Hoyaobsessed
Youll like that euohorbia mint creme @Hoyaobsessed
@TheConservator I have one but itβs the ghost version! I think thatβs what it is called anyway !! Yes they are super cool!!!!!
@Hoyaobsessed ahhh they had a ghost one last year at the same place and i really wanted it! But they wanted 120$ for it! And it was justca 4"
@Araceae wow what a great choice you made
@TheConservator it would definitely be a great time to consolidate your single plant pot. Putting plants together makes less βpotsβ needing to be watered and you have a lot of cacti and succulents that would be very happy to be put into an arrangement rather than by themself. I was up to almost 600 βpotsβ now Iβm down to less than 250.
#TheThread Good Morning! π not so great weather today, a mixture of everything here in New Mexico! π¬οΈπ§οΈπ₯οΈ My Brazilian Red Red Plant aka βCleopatraβ has finally acclimated to her surroundings. Love her pink-green ππππ! Also my Hoya Publicalyx aka βLolaβ has grown so much with her long ππππ, it is definitely trellis time! My Krimson Princess Hoya aka βSageβ has her unique pink π among all her other green πππππ! Everyone have a great Saturday on purpose! π Pictures below β¬οΈ
@TheConservator Good Morning! π Hope you enjoyed your breakfast, and you gain the strength and energy to get some plant work done. π₯° Thanks much for showcasing the members and myself beautiful plants! Have a great Saturday on purpose, my dear! π
@TheConservator Wow!! Congratulations on the new tent!! Your plants are simply gorgeous! I know they are loving their new home!! π
@Araceae Good Morning! π Congratulations on your new βRoFβ! She/he is beautiful with its variegated πππππ
@TheConservator I know your plant tent is full to capacity!! ππ No more rental space!
Good morning y'all! So I've been listening to and reading a ton of advice on the types of plants that I have now (Succs and Orchids) so I bought these shallow 6" planters last night. With the eager anticipation of my new plant babies, I was honestly thinking about room so I figured that I would give a terrarium of sorts a try again and these pots would just be perfect for the project.
The other two pictures are just showcasing all of my babies and how they're set up in the morning when the sun shines through the window π Have a great Saturday on purpose y'all!!

@TheConservator with the new planters I found (and bought) I'm pretty sure I found my new way of continuing to add to my Echeveria collection without taking up valuable space ππ
@SweetAzurebluet oh its not so much energy. Its just not being a lazy ass lol. See your supposecto say "SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP!"π
@BrawnyMachofern those succulent pots are great! I love how shallow they are. Iβm putting SOPβs in shallow pots. Rex begonias too. And they both seem happier with the wider area to spread out in. π. Your succulent babies are so cute π₯°
@BrawnyMachofern that has been part of my plan also is combining plants. But thats also whats stopping me from getting it done partially cause i have to analyze every aspect of them being togethor before i can commit! And even then its hard for me to because ive really had bad luck over the years with multiple plants in one pot. It rarely ever works out like i see. And even if it does at first it doesnt after theyve outgrown the pot.
@MariansOasis i use alot of terra cotta azeala pots for cacti and succulents. Theyre wider than deep
@Hoyaobsessed ive seen those euphorbia before. Thats not the one they had last year for 120$ it was pretty much all white with some slight red / green. Ive never seen another like it .
@TheConservator I think I agree with you about the plant craze; Iβm just not seeing prices drop really. Seems like the usual suspects are maybe showing a dip in price, but the more exotic guys are still fetching a pretty penny out here, and Iβm wondering if thatβs because the demand has dipped, so theyβre not carrying as many as they wouldβve last year to maybe drive the demand back up. I know in other parts of the country box stores were getting Thai Cons every now and then, but here in the 7th Ring, Iβve only ever encountered them at nurseries, and for a decent sized plant they were upwards of $200 still. I got my itty bitty baby Thai Con last year for $20 (Ziggy just unfurled his first leaf in my care!!). So, weβll see what happens over the coming months, but Iβm guessing itβll drop off even more once winter hits. I mean not only are folks gonna realize what a commitment it is to raise and sell plants, but the space it takes is absurd. You know, I love plants but I wouldnβt call myself a collectorβan enthusiast, maybeβbecause I use and appreciate them in the overall design aesthetic of my home, but if I were to start breeding and selling Iβd have to allocate an entire room to the pursuit and Iβm just not willing to do that in this houseβweβre packed tight as it is, and I think many of the sellers were seeing popping up all over places like Etsy will come to find that like my house, theirs canβt sustain business that literally grows and comes with dirt and bugs, and fungus, etcβ¦Just my take on it anyway.
Good morning from CA, probably lunchtime π² for many of you at #TheThread π βοΈ. Regarding plant prices and not as many avid collectors as a couple years ago, Iβm seeing less interesting selections at our local nurseries so Iβm assuming the craze is going away. For me I bought about 5 plants over the winter, all orchids. Iβve realized that I prefer mature plants - now the majority are the plants that made it through all my mistakes π«£π€π« . Iβm doing chop/prop of these guys only so those are the baby plants I have right now. No plans to add more houseplants for a while. Main reasons are itβs a lot of work, Iβve run out of empty places, Iβve got as many grow lights for less ideal spots as I want to use, and I just want to stop and enjoy the plants I have π₯°. Oh and pests ππͺ³!β πͺ΅ + π€« π€ at the moment we are pest free π€« π€«π€«π€« and I want to enjoy this stress free moment βΊοΈπ§π§π πͺ΄
@TheConservator same, love the azalea pots!
Morning, gang! Gonna have some coffee and then figure out what Iβm gonna maybe tackle today. I have to do something with the back half of my parlor; itβs past overdue. I have tons of repotting to do this spring, too, but I just donβt wanna. Even though I know I have a huge box of planty goodness to unpack that will help with the repotting, I still have zero desire to do it. So, it can wait and Iβll just be happy to get the weekendβs watering done. LOL π
Hope everyone has a lovely Saturday!
Hope everyone has a lovely Saturday!
@TheConservator how long have you had your Bishopβs Cap? Has it grown at all? I know theyβre slow growers.
@MariansOasis i just got that one from that china order i got screwed on. It was phytosanitary so had no roots hardly when i got it. But its starting to anchor in now after like a month .
@TheConservator same way with putting too much thought into combining plants together in one pot ⦠even though in my field of work I do it all the time !! But for my personal collection I am very hesitant!!! Sounds like you are being lazy today⦠wish I could ⦠@BrawnyMachofern I love your orchid terracotta pots! Never have seen them before !!! Nice ! I bet they like that! Are you having to water more since they are in the terracotta?
@MariansOasis Good Afternoon! π Stop and smell the πΉπΉ, so to speak! Yes, enjoy, stare at and admire, the gorgeous plants, you already have! A great food for thought! Plus pest free, what more can you asked for! π Have a great Saturday admiration plant day on purpose! π
@HisLobster Good Afternoon! π I donβt see a mess, just things needed to be in its place. I am loving that beautiful chandelier!!! π₯° Have a great Saturday on purpose! ποΏΌ
@TheConservator π Iβm sorry, π€¦πΎββοΈ I will say that, next time around! π
Havenβt bought anything new in a few months. I am still very much tempted to but space is limited in the one room with the best sun. I would probably benefit from combining some of the smaller succulents and propagation projects but I lack artistic ability! I have a few outdoor succulents but everything outside tends to get chewed on! I had one sempervivum disappear out of the pot. Plant chores done here. Time to enjoy shorts and flip flop π©΄ weather here!
@SweetAzurebluet Well, thatβs sorta the problem back here, Harriet. When my grandfather passed this fall and we took back this space, we didnβt finish organizing or decorating so to speak, and itβs been this hodgepodge of stuff ever since, with an invisible sign on it all that says βwhen I get around to itβ and itβs been this way so long that itβs starting to affect my state of mind. I can only handle certain kinds of messes for so long before they make me crazy and this is one of them that Iβm more than fed up with. So, it took me a while but since I found this jobber, I guess I donβt have any more excuses. ππ
@HisLobster oh, okay now I know. Well, hereβs to cheering you on, that space will be clutter free and organized! You can do this!!π
@Hoyaobsessed ive just found long term they usually end up@looking best alone. But i am way more likely to combine older plants ive had a longtime cause i know their habits so well by then im way more confident. And once theyre bigger they just dont crowd each other so much
@SweetAzurebluet π
@TheConservator love the log πͺ΅ planter πͺ΄
@TheConservator I have that log !!! I know you had to have seen my post of my 3 euphorbias in that log ! That is the only thing I have that is multiple plants lol !! Hey good taste !!!!
@MariansOasis Thank you! I think it was actually you who mentioned shallow pots (and in turn got me shopping for them π)
I am supposed to get them Monday, so definitely I'm going to repot the two big ones. I have 6 succs atm so I'm thinking 3 in each pot so they're not so crowded...what do you think? The pots are 6 inches

@Hoyaobsessed lol i did see ur but i didnt realize it wax the same one.ππ€·ββοΈ i thought yours was bigger also.
@TheConservator
I found them on Amazon (so I can always buy more if needed plus I like the other styles that the shop has)

@Hoyaobsessed Thank you! The one that I have moved to terracotta (only because that's all that I had at the time) does seem a little happier so I may end up moving the other ones too. I got them off of Amazon π«Ά Even after I moved her to terracotta, I still water her the same as I did when she was in plastic.
@TheConservator
Hey there!
Congrats on soooo many new plants coming up in your new environment!
So, you probably will feel this might be weird but, evertime you mention your "Hoya Lady" I conger up in my mind this vision of an old woman dressed in decorative red skirts with many gold bangels on her wrists, wearing a very bright multi-colored ruffled shirt.
She's wearing a curly black wig, neck length, which completely covers her white hair. She's sitting slouched over a card table, playing over her Hoya offerings.
She wears bright red lipstick and has black penciled large eyebrows.
Some days she's got a cigarette hanging from the side of her mouth. Some days, not.
So, if I come to your area is this the woman I should look for?

Evening everyone! Hope youβre all having a wonderful weekend and hopefully staying dry and warm! Iβve been having a busy day but of my own choosing so thatβs usually a good thing! Everyone has some great looking plants and setups!! Thanks you all for sharing! I had some exciting plant mail today, those pings I just bought Wednesday already got here! And they gave me extras in each variety AND theyβre all in succulent mode still-which I know nothing about and they left no instructions aside from βhandle with tweezers in succulent phaseβ so Iβm hoping that someone here has more experience with them and can advise me? @TheConservator maybe. π€? All Iβve read about it seems to say that some pings need total dryness for this time, while others like a little bit of water but not like the normal amount. I have the names of my new pings but will have to check and make a new post. We also went back to the greenhouse for another hummingbird plant haul! I read they do best with several different feeding stations so Iβm going to work on that instead of one part of the garden being dedicated to them. Iβm most excited about the super duper pink cordyline which is way more pink than the one I got recently that eventually becomes pink! Everything else is for the birds!
@Blueberrypie im still trying to learn dormancy myself. But ill look into it some more today. Ive been needing to anyway !
I had started a list of different types abd dormancy. Been a few months since i wrote it down though. Now i just gotta find it again lol @Blueberrypie
I bought my first 3 pings back in like september october. I still have 2 of those, but killed one when it entered dormancy. I learned later that its kind of a hard one for beginners, It was a rupicola red. Those ones that i just got a few weeks back are only my second purchase of pings. So far ive kept em all alive! And most seam to be getting happyπ€·ββοΈ. But i definately need to research those i just got ! @Blueberrypie
