A-ha moment for outdoor planting woes

I had one of those "duh" a-ha moments today.

I always used to complain that people had these huge elephant ears in planters and they are going to go to waste in the winter. I also complain that I can't find the right plant for each side of our front door without buying huge, expensive, floor plants that I then had to find space for in the winter.

Queue the a-ha. Buy elephant ear bulbs on sale for $7 each, plant in the spring, cut back and dig up in the fall, repeat. Every problem solved.

I put mine in pots and bring them in in the winter and they stay alive all year long I had one go dormant last yr but I just put it in a cooler spot and it came back this summer
@Michelle5986 I may try to keep mine from dormancy some day, but between an 18m old and 3 year old my floor plants aren't as safe as I'd like them to be πŸ˜‚
@PlantMompy oh I totally understand thankfully mine are 18 and 15 now and know mom will not be happy lol
@Michelle5986 3 is almost 4 and other than watering when a plant doesn't need it it sometimes not being quite gentle enough, he's great. Even has a plant wall in his room!
The almost 2 year old is good for a while, then suddenly there is dirt all over the floor.

The end is in sight, but definitely not here. Lol
Right! And I totally love that he has a plant wall that’s so awesome 😁
@Michelle5986 right?! He mentioned it and I jumped at the opportunity, I was not going to pass it up! Lol
I loooove elephant ears! You’ll have to send us pics when they’re growing. These are one of those plants that I have such beautiful memories of as a child. @Oceangirl ❀️❀️❀️
Lost my potted one last year. This year I planted bulbs. Hopefully they will come back since I’m the ground. My neighbors does every year!
@Boymom-plantmom I wish I could do them in the ground here! I usually stay away from a lot of things for that reason. But I can bring pots into the garage or basement... I hope πŸ˜‚
@PlantMompy ooooh it gets really cold there. 99 % I have to bring in but luckily I can keep some out
