Omw yโ€™all, I accidentally fertilized my thriving #bougainvillea twice within three weeksโ˜น๏ธ. It went from growing and stretching and blooming to having sad, very yellow, crispy leaves, dropping blooms. I had been excited to try my new 8-4-8 fertilizer for acid-loving plants that I guess I spaced it. I wasnโ€™t on Greg yet then.

What can I do to bring my beauty back? Does she need Nitrogen, Sulfur, Calcium? To be left alone? I should probably start with a soil test huh.

I feel like repotting her could help but thatโ€™s another issue I was hoping yโ€™all could help me with: First, I just noticed a huge root coming from out of the pot and down my patio. Also, this plant has been growing all over my pergola, and Iโ€™ve been wrapping the stems around for years โ€” so how do I now go about repotting it? There isnโ€™t much wiggle room there. Do I need to remove it all from the pergola?

Thank you, fellow plant people - the best people! May you get to sink your bare hands into some loamy, beautiful soil. ๐Ÿฅฐ

*Picture is of her better days, taken one year ago. I didnโ€™t take a picture of it today unfortunately.

Thanks yโ€™all! Sorry to make it so long.

Hey! Iโ€™m so sorry honey. I think a repot would be best but otherwise Iโ€™d leave it alone. Can you have someone hold the root ball in place and slide the pot down/away and out? Like repot it in fresh clean soil without moving her? Iโ€™m afraid if you cut all the branches off it would put her into shock.
@RealSimpleMama Thank you, Sarah! You have the same thought I had โ€” Iโ€™m going to have my husband hold the plant up so I can slide the new pot under it, hopefully without disturbing it too much! I was just about to do that today but got busy repotting other plants. Thanks for the suggestion! Makes me feel better about this plan for it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Iโ€™ll post pictures soon to show how it works out.
