DIY fix for my succulent container!
I definitely forgot to drill drainage holes before I started planting some of these, but my first arrangement was a blast! Bed Bath & Beyond sent me a broken (read: free) container that they didnβt even want back, so I slapped some gorilla glue on there and slapped some sharpie over the glue πβοΈ #SucculentSquad #Gymnocalycium #HappyPlants
@SvelteKingfern I may have to go back and make tho holes bigger, but Iβll wait and see how it drains when I water. And I donβt know their names, either π€·π»ββοΈ gymno hybrids and I donβt think theyβre all getting names π€
Oooo I love these plantsπ€©π΅ππΌ #HappyPlants #CactusClique
@SvelteKingfern TouchΓ© on Greg!
@TidyTigerpear I bought some poster protectant tubes on Amazon and cut them with a hand saw. Iβd be lying if I said I wasnβt exhausted while doing so and required a break in between before my forearms fell off βοΈ
@TheOddAsity thank you! It was a lot of fun and I think I scratched that itch well enough to tide me over for a bit on gymnos
@CalebGomezz I just discovered gymnos like a month ago and thought they were so cool! Thereβs some great colors on some of the different hybrids I keep seeing on ETSY and what not.
@TidyTigerpear I love the fruit tray comparison π€
@LittleSongbird I kept seeing your beautiful succs on Wednesdays - @SvelteKingfern with her gorgeous little ones - @TidyTigerpear has an army of stunners - and @CalebGomezz has a googly eyed variegated cactus for Christβs sake! Iβve been fiending for some gymnos for weeks now and yβall are to blame (thank?) =)
@GaryPoopins Haha thank you!! All your plants are awesome too-- I think you're going to influence me into looking into some philos!
@LittleSongbird thatβs a great idea! I didnβt want to leave the runt out but it blends in perfectly with that soil blend π§
@GaryPoopins I did not see the little guy there for a second. π
@GaryPoopins Samesies and I planted it there βοΈ
@SvelteKingfern on drilling the holes - I just bought a specialty set of drill bits made to drill through ceramics/cement/etc. I think it was $20 on Amazon and each hole took me 30 seconds to punch through while misting water on the surface. I was amazed how quickly it was done.
@SvelteKingfern I used that pointy one and it worked like a champ: Diamond Drill Bit - BRSCHNITT 1/4 inch Masonry Drill Bits Set for Porcelain Tile Ceramic Stone Granite Marble,Hex Shank Diamond Hole Saw Drill Bit(5pcs/Pack). https://a.co/d/1bWP4Fx
@SvelteKingfern that is so cool and itβs like a buy one get one free =) Iβm a big fan of candles, but definitely not mosquitos. Are they bad where you are?
You can imagine!!! They can bite you through a t-shirt, literally.
If you're on a bike, you have to keep riding, otherwise you're a meal in seconds. But we have sprays with tropical strength, and these candles or coils for sitting outdoors. So we're safe. π
I like the shape of this bowl, and the rosette of my Echeveria will look perfect there.

Yall will get a kick out of this talking about diamond drill bits , I literally use a hammer and screwdriver to put holes in my teracotta ππππ¬ @GaryPoopins @SvelteKingfern
π± Has it ever worked with a hammer and a screwdriver ? I can see crushed pots even by thinking about doing it this way. π @TidyTigerpear @GaryPoopins
@SvelteKingfern it always work just have to be gentle with the hammer taps, and put something soft under the pot to soften the blows
@TidyTigerpear Iβve seen the YouTube tutorials and Iβve far too little patience for processes like that - plus Iβd lose it when I broke one ππ€ I saw a guy on YouTube using a cheap steak knife and a book and he had zero issues π§
@GaryPoopins honestly you canβt do it with all pots but if I buy a terra-cotta pot and it doesnβt come with a hole & itβs thin enough to the point where I can break it without damaging the pot, then Iβll do it because honestly I donβt have the patience to wait for a diamond drillbit. itβs crucial for the plant to have drainage but it really does depend on the type of pot. Sometimes they already have a pre-cut hole in the terra-cotta that didnβt get cleared out, so Iβll just use that as a guide to make the hole. itβs worked well so far but obviously you canβt do it with all materials or all pots depending on how they constructed. π³ I just call it the Kaitlyn method for now π€π€£
Also, I use a very very thin tiny screwdriver. Itβs for eyeglasses and tiny screws because a normal one would just be far too large and increase the chances of me shattering the pot. Itβs got a flat sharp edge and I just lightly lightly tap in it will push out just enough terra-cotta for me to kind of slowly work on the size I want for the hole. itβs definitely not a full proof method but itβs definitely helped me in quite a few pinches. I tend to do things with the materials I have sometimes, but there are certain jobs that itβs better to get the right materials for to avoid headaches or broken things.ππ³
@TidyTigerpear When I was a kid I was OBSESSED with those tiny little eyeglasses kits! My mom used to get so annoyed because Iβd always take the tiny screwdriver out of it and lose it ππ»ββοΈ
@GaryPoopins you can add succulent arrangements on Greg, just search 'succulent ssp'
@Dustmite - I used the diamond tipped masonry drill bit and it punched through the concrete like stale bread. That being said, Iβm going to get a bigger bit with a bigger diameter for future iterations.
@Dustmite I didnβt know that about entering arrangements and very cool! For me, 1 or 17 hybrid gymnos listed in my nursery, all the same, but now I want to go play around with that feature βοΈ Thanks for letting me know!
@SvelteKingfern those will work great! Itβs oddly satisfying, drilling holes in planters βοΈ
@SvelteKingfern the colors on it - itβs really starting to stretch out and thrive π€
