Why hello Thursday morning planty people crew! #TheWateringHole #brunchataudreys β
οΈ π₯Ά I am bright-eyed π and bushy-tailed πΏοΈ this morning after not feeling π― this weekend and taking an unexpected day off. I had to go to a new grocery store pharmacy on Mondayβ¦ I had no idea and was completely unprepared for them to have a beautiful plant section!! π π¬ ππΌππΌ IβM WEAK. I came away with three new babies. A ctenanthe burle-marxii that has been on my wish-list forever, a cute lil 2β maranta kerchoveana π±and a beautiful Rex begonia. Oh and a Norfolk Pine! π² It smells so good! Sorry Joy @RefinedSandwort , I know youβre on a plant-acquiring hold right now and Iβm sure Iβm not making it ANY easier! π
My last piece of news which I did share in comments but not yet in a postβ¦.BONNIE IS HAVING BABIES!!!!!!! π₯³ππΌπΎπ I have been (im)patiently waiting for my curly π·οΈ plant βBonnieβ to start making pups and last night I found that she had! I thought the new growth was a little different, it came out with three teeny tiny little leaves π all clustered together instead of one big leaf, and last night I discovered the lil BΓBΓ was the tip of the runner!!
Howβs everything in your oasis today? I want to hear all about it! π πͺ΄ π«ΆπΌ

@Idplantthat Thank you my dear!! Itβs really hard to not just constantly stroke the bristles π Although, did I tell you?? Remember how we were talking about touching plants stimulates them to send warning signals, put up their defenses and it might give them anxiety of a sort? That same research botanist Monica Gagliano came out with another study that showed plants LEARNING that regular unharmful touch is not dangerous and they stopped reacting to it!!! Even months later when it was repeated, they REMEMBERED. π€―π±ππ₯Ή
@DreamMachine, what! Iβve heard about the chemical signaling being changed. Even with adding silicon, it can change the way the signal is. But I had no idea that I got used to it, or even enjoy it? I know they can feel your emotions and they know your smell. (Iβm always floored by this, because Iβm not sure how I feel about something so alien taking over, but at the same time I also encourage it, soβ¦ π§π€·πΌββοΈ) I love it though! π€
@DreamMachine ok good, because I touch my plants constantly π aside from regular dusting, which they need lest they become dust sculptures in a week π₯΄ they darn well better be used to me by now (and appreciate me rescuing them from various dark corners) ππ
@DreamMachine
Lovely plants...just as lovely as you are! β€οΈ

@DreamMachine Well thank goodness touching is okay I think of you every time I do . Beautiful line up today love the fishbone. Didnβt you just transplant Bonnie back and forth and know sheβs having babies π±
@ILoveMyPlants YES π€£ Like 3 months I repotted her and then read that theyβre more likely to get pups when slightly root bound so then I repotted her back down a size , apologizing and gibbering all the while π
@CutePolypremum You sweetie pie Joanie π₯°π₯° right back at you!
@DreamMachine the new planties are so pretty!!! π And at a pharmacy!! Iβm living in the wrong zip code π€ͺ π π€£ Congrats again on Bonnieβs baby!!!Youβre a grand-plant momma!ππ₯°π€. Also I was just thinking a Norfolk Island pine would be heavenly π. Iβll be interested in how your does. Iβve read they can get 20β tall grown inside π²
@Idplantthat oh my goodness I didnβt even think about the fact that they could distinguish your smell π€― I just love them!!
@MariansOasis Thank you my dear!! And WOW really?? π± I got it because we recently got a faux Christmas tree and itβs greatβ¦but man I miss the smell π²
@MariansOasis @DreamMachine oh gosh! Marian, I had no idea they could get that big! I have one out in my garage winteringβ¦ and itβs probably about a little over 5 feetβ¦ but I canβt imagine another 15 on top of that π I bet yours does a lot better in Oregon, though! π²
@Idplantthat when you winter plants do you provide a light source for them? This is my first winter with my plants. Iβve got mums I was to winter
@Idplantthat @MariansOasis wellβ¦since Iβve got 10β ceilings, I surely hope I can plant it outdoors once it gets too big π³ Either that or Iβm going to be canvassing one of the fancy districts asking if anyone would love an indoor tree π
@CactusAdjacent I know right!! And whenever I touch my plants (besides dusting) itβs to tell them how pretty they are. I just donβt touch the baby leaves that are mid-unfurl because you can totally mess them up that way. Iβve done it π«π
@HappySelah25 I do. I keep some in my garage and some in my house. My generally summer outdoor ones I winter in my garage with grow lights (different styles, some that create a heat source, then some full spectrum, and some grow lights) so that way I can keep all stages. But I also run a couple of heaters so I donβt freeze and lose them. But I get pretty cold winters here.
@HappySelah25 I have to say I love those cute umbrellas! What a fun, cute idea! π€©
@DreamMachine π€£π€£π€£π€£ I can just see it! I got mine to grow as a Christmas tree. My cats, the last time I put up a tree, decided it was great to climb. It got taken out a few times and then the dogs. And well, I donβt put trees anymore just because we canβt have fun things like that. My house is too much of a zoo.
@Idplantthat where do you live? Illinois has some cold weather too. I just bought a new house that has a heated garage! Thanks for the info-much appreciated π
@DreamMachine I am surviving the no new plants plan for now. I did drool over the plant section at an Ingles grocery store on my way to work. Fortunately, there was nothing there that moved me enough to give in. I can still experience everyone elseβs joy over new plants when I come on here. I just donβt have a lot of plant news to share since it seems like not much is happening with mine right now.
@Idplantthat @HappySelah25 I agree!! What adorable umbrellas and so colorful and cheerful π
@HappySelah25 Congratulations πΎ on the new house! Illinois definitely gets bum-spanking cold! I live in Utah, at the base of a mountain. We basically live in a giant fish bowl with our mountains π
@HappySelah25 Michelle!! ππΌ what great news, congratulations on the new house!! A heated garage sounds wonderful in those cold Illinois winters βοΈ
@Idplantthat I searched for something to protect my cactus from a downpour-I first thought of a tarp-then human umbrellas and in my search on Amazon I found these π
@DreamMachine thanks
@HappySelah25 I LOVE those umbrellas!!! Running π off to search AMZ!!! I just spent days moving plants back & forth due to a few rain storms π§οΈ passing through. Umbrellas for plants would be great!! Are they sturdy when itβs windy?
@HappySelah25 What a great idea! π‘ I love those Amazon finds. Itβs so great when you do, it kinda just makes your week! π They are so dang cute. π₯° I seriously just love it.
Hey there everyone!! I have not been able to join you all in many months now but I miss you all and hope everyone is doing well π I donβt have much of my original plant collection anymore because I had to leave my home suddenly in June. :/ Iβm rebuilding though. Hereβs my new variegated black zz plant leaf cutting! A beautiful tropical hibiscus that is still blooming away inside for me! Also my glorious ping pot! Lastly are a couple arrangements that I made for my apartment building!
@Blueberrypie Hi Sarah ππ» I might not have been around before then but hi, Iβm Nadia, and I am SO sorry to hear of you losing your collection π How horrid! I donβt know anything about your situation but I sure hope youβre safe and well now π₯Ί Iβm currently rebuilding my collection too π€
Iβm itching to comment on your photos (lovely!!) but first just wanted to share todayβs post thats still active, if you want to repost your plantys there? You donβt have to, of course, but more people are looking there today πΏ
