Today I got some new plant mail! One of the shops I ordered from made a little mistake and forgot to ship me one of my plants. So the seller sent me a free Green on Green Amazonia Alocasia. The first two photos are of the free one. The third is the forgotten one. The fourth is pink and green Pseudo Sanderiana ‘Pink Form’. The fifth is Green on Green Lime Simpo Alocasia. #wateringhole #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #NewPlantMom #OrchidLovers #PetsAndPlants #MonsteraMonday #PlantCorner #PlantShelfie #RarePlants
First one: Peperomia Scanden, aka Variegated Cupid Peperomia. Second is my Reed orchid starting her first bloom in a couple of years! Third: Philodendron Pink Princess. Fourth: Scherzerianum Anthurium. Very last is a pink black velvet baby alocasia and corm pot! Any corms that don’t take in the volcanic substrate I put into a big corm starter pot. So we’ll see what happens! 🤞🤞🤞
@Idplantthat Omg they’re gorgeous! i’ve always admired alocasias, and i’ve thought about purchasing a few times.. but based on what i’ve seen with some people on this app im scared i wouldn’t be able to stop! 😆 (though im not sure that would be such a bad thing lol..)
@UberCoccoon22 ha ha ha it starts with one… then bam! 💥 12 more. But they are super rewarding and some of the best plants. The textures and colors you could stare at and pet them all day 🤣
@Idplantthat I see the Amazonia has been closely examined and approved. ❤️. I feel like walking through your oasis would take me a long time. lol… I’d be like - oh look at that - constantly. Beautiful plants 🪴! I have a few Alocasia. I find that the ones with mottled stems (that terminology is probably incorrect) like the Jacklyn give me fits. I struggle with them.
@Dawgfreak that’s wild, and I can completely understand. They can be so dramatic, they are drama queens for sure. But that’s also what’s kinda great, if it gets messed up, it’s okay, it’s got a core! (Unless it’s a tc, then you just cut that plant. 😜) But I’m with you, my easiest Alocasia has been my zebrina, she’s usually always got three leaves and nothing more. 😂 Jacklyn’s though I feel like you gotta play with the lighting and the humidity…
Beautiful additions!! And I love your Vanna White, Rachel! @UberCoccoon22 they are definitely addictive but I second how rewarding they are!! It’s like a little puzzle sometimes to figure out what they want. I started with 1 this summer wondering if I would kill it and I now have 10! More if you count the corms I harvested. @Idplantthat @Dawgfreak so funny how everyone’s environments are different. I think my Jacklyn, Cuprea, and my Black Velvet were the easiest transitions into my home. No dropped leaves, no yellowing, nothing. The BV flowered (and is now growing a new leaf) and the Jacklyn popped a new leaf pretty quickly. There is an old leaf slowly on its way out after the new leaf, but that ain’t bad for a new home and a new pot, I say. The Cuprea only grew two new leaves and maintained the old ones. Woohoo! My hardest ones have been the Scalprum and actually my Polly has done absolutely nothing but lose leaves since I brought it home in October. Polly is supposed to be the simplest! 😂
@Jho ha ha ha 😂 isn’t that how it goes! The ones you want the most love to be dramatic and make you work for it! You’re so right, it is like a little puzzle, one you learn as you go a little. Each one can be slightly different, as well as difficult or simpler. I do remember when you were so worried about getting one! Wasn’t your first the black velvet?? It’s incredible and you’ve definitely proven more than capable of handling these types! I have a few but I still feel like I’m not getting it. 🤦‍♀️ but that could just be my own second guessing 😂
Oh, that’s a beauty lucky girl!!!!🥰
@Idplantthat the scalprum was my introduction, which may be why I had such a hard time with it. The BV was my birthday present, from me (I’m the best). 🤣 Alos certainly do make you sink or swim, don’t they? Or rather, tread water or swim - because those corms can take some mistakes. I’m sure you’re just a few tweaks away from perfecting the problem children, guru. Haha Which ones are giving you troubles?
@Jho mainly it’s been my starter corms, thinking substrate- straight isn’t the best option for me. So I’m going to switch them over to a sphagnum perlite cross with a tree fern chunkier/more starter friendly. I just think winter gets too dry here.
Ohhh. Ambient humidity? Mine were at like 99% humidity that I grew in soil. Transitioning them now, but damn are they hardy.
