Plants for windowless rooms and no grow lights
I see many inquiries on here re selection of suitable plants for, e.g., the bathroom with no windows, the dark nook with no outlet to plug in grow lights….and despite being advised that no plant can live like this without dying a slow slow slow death, many nonetheless want a plant…I now stand corrected: Plant for windowless rooms without grow lights https://www.lafleurbouquets.com/collections/la-plante

@TexanExpat And at home only $99 for a single peony flower, it's a steal! 🤯
No plant will ever survive in a room without any sunlight or a grow light.
All plants need oxygen, water, nutrients, and sunlight to survive, it cannot photosynthesise without sunlight, so it simply can not grow, and it can not sustain itself.
Get a fake plant for rooms without light.
All plants will die in there if there is no sunlight or grow light. 🙂

@Linx You should explore the link. They ARE INDEED REAL FLOWERS AND PLANTS! Preserved in all their glory and costing a fortune.
@Linx I agree with you wholeheartedly. I can speak from experience that merely having prints of floral still life from the Dutch golden age provided some benefits for reduced anxiety and, for lack of better expression, easing unease. Fake plants probably can provide those benefits. My post is somewhat of a joke—I know what it is like to be new to plants and eager and zealous to totally green up our space. Yet on social media more so others than Greg, the zeal, even when given the facts about sending a plant to die a slow slow death with no light may nonetheless result in a response as “so should I go with the snake plant since that handles low light better?” Perhaps I’m wiser with age or experience but when I saw the preserved plants I thought the old me might either have wanted one if I had the money or come to my senses :)
@UltraKoreanfir as I recall my first Etsy purchase ever was a preserved box wood topiary (table top size) on Etsy. It was quite a big deal for me sense I am loathe to have to set up an account for anything. I just discovered instagram and Reddit recently because they seem to be the only places one can find pictures of what houseplants looks either in the wild or as mature specimens. But I had just bought a new condo, 7 blocks from the White House. I was too busy being a product of the city to care for a plant, but I hated the idea of a fake plant at the time and Etsy was the only place that anything like this …..so I was compelled to…$63 was not bad for me at the time. In retrospect, look at how that seemingly innocuous purchase way back when gave the platform to become such an addict :)
@UltraKoreanfir , that is so weird 😅 i down know why anyone would get those.
But I'm also obsessed with plants, so I would just add a grow light and get the plant of my choosing instead 🤭
@TexanExpat ahhh.. yeah, now I get it! 😅
I now just find it strange and maybe a bit unnecessary, but if there is a market for it, then I guess it works 😅🤭🪴
I would any day just choose a plant that is alive and not a zombie 🪴
It freaks me out a bit.. imagine what aliens would think if they were real and came to earth to see what we were doing to plants 🤣🤣🤣

@Linx I suffer terribly from anxiety and PTSD and I’m also became disabled at 37, I’m 45 now. Shot down like a hang glider over the pentagon ….i could see someone getting something like that if they wanted to get the benefit of reduced anxiety or the easing of suffering that plants bring to a space if they were not able to care for a plant. Which is not something I can count on every day. I find that merely having depictions of plants help me , so I imagine even more so for the “preserved” ones. I didn’t realize earlier that the tongue and cheek intent of my post fell like a lead balloon ha
@TexanExpat Hey if worst comes to worst. You can always stop by the White House ! I’m sure Joe wouldn’t mind you snagging a plant from a low light spot . Just run like hell so security won’t catch you 😱
@ILoveMyPlants alas I’m in San Antonio. Someone burnet the governors mansion and if they didn’t before they prolly shoot to kill now. Not that he would have any plants. That energy would have to kill them
@TexanExpat John I love the looks of the flowers on the Lafleur bouquets have to offer, but not so much the price! And since it is so pricey they had better come with the smell included!! 😁😉 love your wall hangings of flower photos!! My office at work is filled with photos in front of my desk with flowers. All I purchased for myself to calm my day at work!! This was taken back a bit ago but still enjoy my flowers. 💐 🤗
@CourtlyKingfern thank you for sharing your photos. They are calming aren’t they? Most of my floral prints are either Dutch golden age or William morris prints. Take the floral still life in the blue frame for example…. Ambrosius Bosschaert's "Flowers in a Glass" exemplifies the artistic merit of Dutch Golden Age still life paintings through meticulous botanical accuracy and symbolic richness. This work, created in the early 17th century, showcases a harmonious arrangement of flowers, including tulips and chrysanthemums, meticulously rendered to reflect their natural beauty and seasonal availability. The painting not only demonstrates Bosschaert's technical skill in capturing details but also embodies the era's fascination with nature, wealth, and the ephemeral beauty of blooms. It serves as a testament to the era's flourishing trade in exotic and prized flowers, highlighting both artistic prowess and cultural significance in a vibrant bouquet that transcends mere decoration to symbolize themes of love, prosperity, and the passage of time.
One thing that I think makes these works so interesting is that they sometimes contain riddles, in the form flowers combinations. Paintings of this era, as is the case with this work, sometimes featured tulips and chrysanthemums to be depicted together in bloom, as if they were just season together, but clearly never are. Tulips traditionally symbolize love and prosperity, while chrysanthemums symbolize longevity and joy. The juxtaposition of these symbols could represent a contrast or balance between fleeting beauty (tulips) and enduring happiness (chrysanthemums).
I collected more of this art when I was doing art therapy. I found these themes to help me overcome grief. I also often that merely having them in my room elevated my mood. Turns out that scientific studies support this. And that led to houseplants, so i thought…those spider plants have always been cool….

@TexanExpat John - yes they are indeed calming! I have noticed, but not really “studied” the combination of flowers in some photos that are not normally blooming at the same time but what an interesting study you have done. I like your findings and I am so sorry you have had to deal with grief. As I also have found flowers to help with my grief as well. And going to places like the botanical gardens and local nursery helps me. But slowly finding all the flowers in the world cannot bring the happiness back as before but the Lord above is the one and only who can help us through our pain & grief. So my day starts with reading and study of his words to me for this very day. I pray you find your peace as well! 🫠😌
