Sad time π my cat decided to be awful and completely destroy all except one of the new leaves on my calathea orbifolia. Itβs been on a shelf at ground level for the lighting and he has NEVER done anything like this, heβs always left them alone and Iβm devastated. (Incidents like this is why I keep only cat friendly plants.)
The plant itself will be fine I think but it looks awful, all of those new leaves it worked so hard to produce just shredded to bits and all my hard work to allow it to produce those lush leaves just down the drain.
Itβs still producing so hopefully I can prune them at some point in the future but Iβm so sad about it, it will be another few months before it even produced two more replacement leaves. #CalatheaCrew #catdestruction

This is my constant struggle with our cats!! I tried a few fake plants in our living room just to see something green and they shred those, too. Im so sorry :( hopefully your plant will have a strong comeback for sure! I am still trying to find spots in our house where they cant get to the ones i have left without putting holes allover the ceiling to hang them all up - although these cats would probably scale walls or build contraptions to get to them. π
@AmyF Iβm almost tempted to find like a hanging stand for a couple of mine! It was so bizarre and jarring to wake up to this morning since itβs not something heβs ever done besides take a little nibble out of my babyβs tears or my echevaria.
Oh i know- Its like walking in to a crime scene! And at first, im all hurt and take it so personal π i have a money tree on a stand that is near a chair and if if it ever gets shifted even a few inches close to the arm of the chair, i see one of my cats slinking towards it all excited because then he can get on that part if the chair and balance just right to gnaw on the leaves- and he does it fast, like someone eating corn in fast-motion, so he can get more before i catch him! So i have to make sure its at least a couple feet away from the chair. You have a good idea for the hanging stand- please post a pic if you find one that works! ππ€
