My palm started getting dark on tips ? Help!
0ft to light, direct
Last watered 2 months ago
@SuperiorBroom9 Hi Alexandria! I have several palms but not this type, I have ponies. It is natural for a palm to drop leaves from time to time, they replace them with new ones. But if you start seeing brown in the middle of leaves, that isn’t normal! When the ends are the initial place the discoloration starts, that is most of time OK, you can just clip off the brown part only and leave the rest, you can tell it as a natural issue if the very tips start out yellowing then slowly turn to brown. However if it turns dark brown first you may want to treat for a fungus or a bacterial infection. I also read on here, although it was for a different kind of plant, that over watering can cause cells to burst causing dark brown spots. You didn’t photograph the soil so I can’t really see if I need to offer an opinion on that but if it were me, I would clip out the brown spots angling the clip so that it looks more natural, giving a palm a bad haircut can really hurt their feelings and we don’t want to do that! πŸ˜› Please let us know if you have additional questions, I am happy to help in anyway I can! Have a great day and Good Luck! πŸͺ΄πŸŒΌ
Here’s the soil. I had it sitting here in south sun indirect light but idk if him closing the curtains for two days made it turn brown or what. It was instant though. Dark brown then drying out
Hi @SuperiorBroom9! 🌴 Tip browning like this on palms can be pretty common and is usually linked to low humidity, inconsistent watering, or even salt/mineral buildup from tap water.

Black tips can appear for many reasons. From underwatering to overwatering, to low air humidity. Also, if the palm is close to AC vents or constant drafts. Keep the palm far from any cooling or heating devices. Also, allow the soil to dry between waterings, and make sure the pot drains out all the excess water after watering πŸͺ΄πŸ’¦
