Ghost pipe sighting in my area! π¨π±
Cool plant alert! π¨π±π»
My neighbor text the other day that we had these growing along the road and I spotted a bunch on the path behind my house this morning.
This is a Ghost Pipe, scientific name Monotropa Uniflora.
It's native to Asia, North America and South America. It is a parasitic plant because of the lack of chlorophyll. Apparently it's really rare because it grows in very specific conditions. We have had a ton of rain this summer so I'm guessing that's why we suddenly have them!

@PlantMompy That is one interesting looking plant!!
Don't just go eating them raw but they are medicinal as well. Have to make the tincture. I don't know how π But I know the flower needs to be drooping down when picked. Once It's facing upwards....its released its baby pods so it isn't the same. I've gotten dragged along on many foraging trips by Veteran friends for their anxiety and PTSD. It's also known as Indian Pipe. Or the other lovely term... Corpse Plant π It goes completely black in about a week and will turn black if you touch it around that time frame. lt is parasitic but doesn't really do any harm to its hosts from what I've heard. It's also a perennial so you never want to disturb the roots....even in States etc where it isn't so rare. So many neat things about this plant!!!
