Wooow! These are gorgeous! Orchids always catch my eye, no matter what colour. 4th picture looks like red wind on white cloth. Itโ€™s so beautiful and unique. And # 5!!! I was in awe! Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿชด
@plantt THEYRE ALL SO INCREDIBLE!!! WOWIE WOW!!! The leaves!!! Omg!!๐Ÿคฉโœจ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿฅน how show stopping and incredible?! Framable?! I want to sleep on these leaves๐Ÿคฉโœจ๐Ÿ˜ญ amazing!!!
Beautiful. ๐ŸŒธ waiting for the other 30 ๐Ÿ˜€
@Prentyce hereโ€™s another paph I have: paphiopedilum wardii.
its leaves are a light sage with the deep spots, and an, almost, metallic, silvery finish (i tried to use the flash to get that shine lol).
itโ€™s cool to see the variation and beauty in the leaves of plants that are normally appreciated for their blooms :))
OH MY GREAT WORLD WONDER GOODNESS HECK AUTUMN!!!!! WOWOWIWIWIWE I FELL IN LOOOOOVE๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ˜ญ youโ€™re a plant magician girl!!!! I adore all of your orchids, but my goodness!!! This Paphiopedilum is my soul mate๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿฅณ
Beautiful ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿคฉ
Absolutely lovely!
How or what do we look for in terms of seeds?
@freespirited.30 i pollinated a few days ago, so now iโ€™m just waiting to see if the pollen is accepted by the flowers; it could take, at most, a week for the blooms to show if they accepted the pollen or not. if it is accepted, the ovary, the stem that connects the actual flower to the bloom stalk, will elongate and widen.
Then itโ€™s just a long 6-8 month wait for the seed pod to mature enough to harvest.
They are SO PRETTY ๐Ÿคฉ You are doing a GREAT JOB ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘
Oh wow! Your orchids are absolutely gorgeous! The variegated leaves on the last one is stunning! I was gifted an orchid a few days ago, but I know very little about them. Do you have any care tips you donโ€™t mind sharing with a noob? Mine seems to be in some kind of a plug. Should I remove that stuff? What kind of substrate do you use for your phalaenopsis orchids?
@OrangeGrass yours looks pretty healthy actually!
If there is a plug, Iโ€™d definitely recommend you to remove it. Usually the plugs are right in the center of the rootball and can lead to rot.
I use a mix, about 1:1, of sphagnum moss and orchid bark as the potting medium for all of my orchids.
If you keep yours in a clear pot, it will be easy to tell when it needs water, as the roots will appear a silvery grey when they need water and a bright green when hydrated.
Definitely let me know if you have any more questions, and best of luck with caring for your new phal :)
@plantt If I remove the plug, would it hurt the flowers? I have moss, but I donโ€™t have orchid bark. Do you have any particular kind you buy? Or a link? ๐Ÿ˜… is it okay to use this?
Do all the roots turn silvery gray? Even the ones at the bottom? I touched some of them, and they feel dry and hollow and look white. One long strand has a portion thatโ€™s dry, hollow and white, but it has firm, green roots after the dry section on both ends. Do I leave those types of roots be? Some of the leaves also look questionable. Iโ€™ll post about it and tag youโ€”I can attach pictures.
