My first ever blooms in the backyard of the first home I have ever owned! πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯² I cannot get enough of them! My grandmother instilled a passion for gardening in me when I was very young as I was responsible for watering all the plants in our garden, and she taught me how to make flower garlands every evening for my mom. As I grew older, time, space, and life led to gardening taking a backseat even though I work on environmental issues. Now, with our own home, we have yard space and apparently since it was dormant all these years, my gardening passion is back with a vengeance, turning me into a #PlantAddict who may be going a bit overboard with purchasing plugs, plants, seeds, and supplies. 😰 Now I’m worried that all the love, money, and effort invested in cultivating the garden will be wasted if the #Zone9Plants don’t survive the California winter rain and occasional frost! πŸ˜₯ Or maybe I’m just anxious.. but I just love them so much!! πŸ’š #PlantTherapy #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #NewPlantMom #OutdoorGrowing #FloweringPlants #AamchiWaadi #Zinnias #HappyPlants #HangingPlants
Stunning color
wow i'm in love with the purple blooms 😍
I am not sure what the others are, but I assume you know zinnias are annuals? They bloom over a summer, then die back in the fall. You plant them again from seed in the spring. I think that is the case where you live as well in my zone (6), but you may have the flowers longer there due to the warmer climate.
@AC73LoveCats Ok, so I was today years old when I learned Zinnias are annuals! So much for being a researcher 😳🫣 who didn’t research. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Buuuut! On the bright side (pun intended given the flower), zinnia seeds are inexpensive and I NOW FINALLY feel better about having gone on a crazy buying spree a couple of days ago and ended up with like 4 more packets of different types of Zinnia seeds! 😬😬
@ehery So am I!! I’m at a loss for words to explain to my spouse why I keep randomly popping outside to stare at that hanging basket for seemingly a year, because I just cannot stop being in awe of them! 😱😍πŸ₯Ή
Yay! You can even save them and use next spring. I like to mix up different kinds of zinnias from different seed packets and see what combinations come up. Fun, and beautiful.😻 Enjoy yours @AamchiWaadi
@AC73LoveCats Great idea! I’ll look into collecting and storing seeds. When do you generally harvest your seeds and then when do you plant them? Here in zone 9b, we have quite a long growing season so could I sow them in mid-February which is nearly a month after the last frost date?
Oh my, I am so envious, yes, you could. I don’t collect them, I buy more seed packets of zinnias every spring. I plant them as close to the last frost date as I can, which here in zone 6 is May 15.
