@strawberrymoon he is gorgeous, what kind of plant is he? π₯°π₯°π―π―ππ
@KikiGoldblatt the scientific name is really hard to spell so you can check his profile!! i think the english name was some kind of mayapple, in japan we call them hakkaku-ren which basically means eight angled lily :)
@strawberrymoon STUNNING, definitely adding to my "need" list!
@PlantMompy heβs super cute yes!!! apparently theyβre outdoor shade/partial shade plants, im keeping him indoors tho bc our garden has no shade haha
@Pegster thank you!! i love peltate leaves haha
Woah- another #wishlistplant! I hope it's not as hard to find as your grandmother's Wooly plant. π
@sarahsalith oh thatβs actually my wooly plant !! heβs just outside bc i have no more sunny spots in my room lol, they do good outside anyway so i just keep him out there and bring him in at night. i hope you find both soon :D
@Hypsie TIL i have a literal geometry plant π your tattoo is beautiful btw! looks like stained glass
@strawberrymoon I saw a few Mayapples, but none as magnificent as the one in your picture.
I am planning on repotting some of my caudex plants and I ordered some pon- you spoke so highly of it, I've gotta try it.

@sarahsalith
thereβs different types of may apples iirc!! this specific one is the one from taiwan and china. ngl i didnβt even know they existed until today, i did a quick google search and they seemed easy enough so i got this guy!
and yesss itβs great for succulents :) we donβt really call it pon here haha so i was kinda confused for a moment- but itβs a great substrate either way!!

just gonna consolidate some info on monet since many people are asking about him! there was minimal info in english so a lot of this is translated from japanese

-species: podophyllum pleianthum
-these plants grow in shaded areas and are native to mountainous regions in china and taiwan!
-goes dormant in winter the same way caudex plants do, heβll drop his leaves and come back in march. heβs not a caudex tho
-very odd mix of soil lol, many sources said to mix 1:1 akadama to leaf compost and some coarse sand so i did that, he seems to be doing good. so it seems like they like loamy conditions?
-usually outdoor plants
-needs to be watered a LOT, like once every two days or every day depending on how moisture retentive your soil is. probably bc his leaves are huge so thereβs a lot of transpiration going on
-needs to be fertilized pretty frequently
-can flower, didnβt look up too much on this part since i just bought him bc of his foliage

hope this helps yall learn more about this cool plant!!
