This is the purple shamrock Iโ€™ve had for a little over a month. The picture on the left is from the day I brought him home, and the other shot is from a few days ago. In that time, El Morado has at least doubled in size!!! What? Who knew Oxalis grew so quickly and required so little? What a great plant to add to your collection! ๐Ÿ˜ #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #BeforeAndAfter #PurpleShamrocks #Oxalis #gottacatchemall #PlantLove
6โ€ pot with drainage
Last watered 1 week ago
ugh oxalis are so freaking pretty! he is so so beautiful and full!!
@LaSiguanaba This plant looks familiar ๐Ÿ˜‰ although the "before" picture really shows how great growing conditions can make a difference. So was the first pot smaller than its current one or about the same size? The photos make it a little deceptive as to size.
I remember how struck I was with the color and leaves but the bloom makes it a real feature. Hope the flowers last a while ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿคฉ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ‘โ˜˜๏ธ
@FicusOnTheGood Heโ€™s just gorgeous and at this rate, Iโ€™m going to need a bigger pot soon! ๐Ÿ˜
@Seymour The first pot was 4 inches and I repotted it into a 6 inch pot a couple or 3 weeks ago. I donโ€™t normally repot plants so quickly, but this guy just keeps getting bigger. ๐Ÿคฉ
@Seymour Oh and heโ€™s been blooming continuously since I brought him home. ๐ŸŒธ
Nooooooo! Itโ€™s so pretty and that would look so good on my โ€œshades of pinkโ€ shelf. Now I want one!!! ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ’ธ
@HeraMonstera You should totally get oneโ€”they are SO easy! They donโ€™t like being repotted much, but they bounce back right away. Definitely a great addition! ๐Ÿ˜Š
Woahhhh ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
@HeraMonstera @LaSiguanaba Another cool thing to note about these plants is that IF you forget to water and all the foliage dies, keep watering regularly, and I swear it'll all pop back up from the rhizome. It's pretty cool and I had QUITE the surprise one day, as I thought I had killed mine. They are so resilient.
Love it! It's so beautiful.
@LaSiguanaba RoseRed the shamrock is just outstanding! The red leaves and pink flowers just seem to pop in the sunlight it is getting. Happy plant, happy danceโ€ฆ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’•
Wow so beautiful El Morado is very happy enjoy ๐Ÿ’š
@LaSiguanaba I am intrigued by this plant and found a local supplier of seed. I think it would be an interesting exercise to try to grow this plant from "seed":
And I also found out that
there is no botanical basis for the belief that the shamrock is a unique species of plant that only grows in Ireland. So El Morado or even El purpura may not becas false as many believe.
Does El Morado fold down his leaves and close his flowers at night?

Check out this guy in Sydney with his plant

This plant is amazing, just add water and...
@Jess what an amazing plant?!?๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€
@JesssJungle Oh wow, such beautiful flowers Jess! I didnt know they came back if you accidentally โ€˜killedโ€™ them, lol. Where was this plant when I needed it? ๐Ÿ˜‚
@RobustMudpuppy thank you!
@CourtlyKingfern I never knew shamrocks were so pretty! And I just love the flowersโ€ฆ I have a weakness for beautiful flowers ๐ŸŒธ
@Chevysgirl11 thank you!
@Seymour Iโ€™ll need to check out those links! It really is so cool how this plant falls asleep every night and wakes with the dawn. What a life! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I think I could use as much sleep someday.
@LaSiguanaba Yes, it's amazing how the leaves go all the way up in the morning, I never realized until looking into it. And it is as if it is exhausted at the end of the day and just wanting to flop down and go to sleep. An ingenious plant so thanks for putting it on my radar. I now want to grow on just to see it lifting and falling again (time-lapse would be fun) and the flowers too, Incredible! Sounds like this plant does not suffer any insomnia LOL ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜†
@Seymour a time lapse video is a GREAT idea. Now that is something that would be fun to set up and watch! Maybe you should do it Seymour? I think there would be a lot of interestโ€ฆ
@LaSiguanaba there are some great time-lapses of CPs, basically, any plant that moves but CPs in particular. I would need to know someone with good photography skills as mine are limited but it is a good idea, I agree. Hence why I like the false shamrock now. Is it possible for you to time lapse your false Shamrock?
I did find a great time-lapse as Jess has a Resurrection plant, and I am surprised you don't have one. Check it out
@Seymour Maybe I should try to a time lapse of my shamrock ๐Ÿค” That might be something interesting I could post!
@LaSiguanaba could you do it? Like the 6 million dollar man, do you have the technology to do time lapse. It would be great to set up for your false shamrock and eg growing Nepenthes pitchers, sundew digesting. I would love the see the video. See the links above for examples
@Seymour I have a Pentax that I believe has a video function, and a tripod I could dig outโ€ฆ Iโ€™ve never done anything like this before, but I like jumping into things, ๐Ÿ˜‚ Much the same way I did with the terrarium. Iโ€™m not much of a planner.
@LaSiguanaba I'd love to time-lapse and it sounds like it wouldn't take much for you to set up. I like jumping, I'm like Tigger and Tiggers like to bounce. Although I won't be doing much bouncing soon, I need a good sleep, I have been up all day and night lately. But I wish I could stay in Greg a bit longer, so much to catch up on and the naming post is going off big time .
I know there are time-lapse demonstrations on YouTube as I saw it for a guy filming the pitcher of his Nepenthes growing over like 180 days. Anyway, I need to attend to my ZZZZ plant now, ciao
@LaSiguanaba just popping in to say you might want to give serious consideration to a small business whether selling CPs, CPs in terrariums or something else. You could give talks about CPs at your kids or other schools. I was discussing something similar with a CP supplier i know who just has plants at the back of his family house mostly in the sun. Anyway just a thought ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”
@Seymour Iโ€™ll have to search YouTube for it! That sounds really fascinatingโ€ฆ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ˜Š
@LaSiguanaba I can sew it is time to introduce you to Remy at Windowsill Nepenthes, over to your Remy to explain time-lapse
@Seymour I would love to create terraria for othersโ€”how much fun would that be? There is a large farmerโ€™s market here where many arts and crafts are sold, in addition to plants, and produceโ€”this would be the perfect place to sell such things. I really will consider this, but first I must get better at building them. I appreciate all of you who have suggested this: @JesssJungle @Macstracks @Merranda
@Seymour Iโ€™ll take a look when Iโ€™m not in traffic!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ No worries, Iโ€™m a great driver!!! (Full disclosureโ€”Iโ€™m joking, my driving sucks!!!) ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚
@LaSiguanaba do it!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ I am thinking of doing the same thing. I'm already selling plants at my farmer's market, so once I have more CP terrarium experience, I might sell those too!
@JesssJungle Really? I didnโ€™t know that you sold plantsโ€”thatโ€™s so cool. I need to figure out whatโ€™s involved I starting something like this. I used to sell homemade jewelry at art shows, but that was pretty informal. I wonder where to begin?
@LaSiguanaba I didn't know you could drive LOL๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿคฃ
I am sure your driving is fine, especially when plants are involved. I just said to Chris he should consider YouTube videos for his bog pot but you could also do likewise with how to make a CP Terrarium etc
Anyway Enjoy, guess we will see the results of the latest raid on Fac...on Greg app. I think my zzz plant is calling me again.
@LaSiguanaba yeah! I just started selling some cuttings that i potted and that have rooted well. I've got mostly succulents right now, but a few others, and I plan on selling any cuttings I can produce. ๐Ÿ˜Š The market doesn't officially start until next month.
@Seymour I actually donโ€™t driveโ€”itโ€™s a long story. I just thought the idea of me texting and driving was funny. Maybe I need to get myself a ๐Ÿ’ค plant, ๐Ÿ˜‚
