Good afternoon #TheWateringHole planty people 🌿 I AM RIDICULOUS. 🙃 I forgot my FAVORITE philodendron yesterday. Literally did not even cross my mind! Just a little while ago I was gazing at my plants and went OMG, MY TORTUM 😱😂🤣
I was not the biggest fan until I actually got one. It was in one of those “Multi-pack random house plants,” I got online from Altman. I thought it was okay. And then I saw a baby leaf unfurl. Philodendron tortums, hands down, have the best, silliest, most delightfully messy baby leaf unfurlings of any other plant I have. It is ridiculous and I adore it. It’s like the Jack Skellington/Nightmare Before Christmas/Tim Burton of houseplants. It’s like all the ‘fingers’ are haphazardly curled up and then they all trip over themselves as they come out.
Mine is still a baby, and would’ve been bigger by now if I had caught the root rot earlier last summer, but it’s finally unfurling new leaves now and I can’t wait to see it grow!

@DreamMachine ha ha ha 🤣 🤣🤣 omg that’s hilarious! What can you expect on Mondays? You’re going to forget something on Mondays. Phew! 😮💨 Thank goodness it’s Tuesday. Your baby is BEAUTIFUL! 😻. When I get up, I just sat down from working literally all day on plants. So I ordered these Norfolk pines in 4-inch pots and with a cute planter. So! I happened on a hunch to notice the color was off, so I pulled them out. Sure enough, the start of root rot! And they had 5 small babies in a 4-inch pot. It took a pick to help me carefully pick up the dirt and unravel the roots. Then I went to my mom’s, got hers, and did the same thing. But hers was worse and 7 plants. But now I have a ton of Norfolks! 🤣🤣🫶🏻🎄But who knows what will make it. 🎄🤦♀️

@DreamMachine speaking of ridiculous. I have to document this just in case it actually works 😂 I did end up getting a full refund for the frozen plants, but listen, I have a REALLY hard time throwing things away if I suspect they might come in useful. Or, yanno, survive (if you're a chicken or a philodendron). So I prepped the op area, got my alcohol wipes, sharpened the scissors and the knife and went to work. The flamingo plant had a lot of good roots left, 2 plants in all that I separated and repotted. The monstera is Probably not going to make it. Still, there's enough left alive-ish that I'm giving it a shot.

@CactusAdjacent I’m with you, I cannot just throw things away!! I had so many cuttings going at one point that I had to force myself to stop 🤪 🤪. And plants have to be obviously 🪦 before I can give up on them! 😝
@CactusAdjacent I am totally with you. And those roots look good! I just pinched the tips of one of my tradescantias, and it was REALLY hard to put them in the compost. @MariansOasis saaaame
@DreamMachine @MariansOasis my Achilles heel is bottom barrel sales on what is a 60/40 chance to be a new plant friend in a month or a $1 planter of compost 😭
