#brunchataudreys Good morning everyone, and happy monday!...

#brunchataudreys
Good morning everyone, and happy monday! With the onset of winter and people bringing their plants inside, sometimes there are problems with humidity or insects. In my case I think it's both ☹️. There are cacti with tons of spines or what we might even call hair that are designed to help keep these insects away. But don't put your guard down those insects can still get in there. My little Cactus has plenty of spines and yet last night I found mealy bugs on both of these cactus. Since you can't really get a Q-tip in there, you pretty much just have to spray them with alcohol or dip them in it. And pick the bugs out with a toothpick or tweezers. Followed by a spray with neem oil. Anyone else having any problems?

Oh no! I’m sorry you’re dealing with that! What a beautiful cactus, too. I’ve been battling spider mites on the Brazilian jasmine and a couple other plants I usually keep outdoors… i think I have them under control now, but they have a habit of coming back. I hope you’re able to eradicate your pest problem β™₯️🌡
@BabeVila Thanks, Sannon. Likewise!😊
The other one... And, I think the rabbit ears cactus might have some too.
At the end of summer when I brought them all in I noticed aphids on my assorted stonecrop arrangement. Had to dowse them in isopropyl alcohol. Pretty sure it's resolved but my sedums and sempervivum can handle the cold so they're outside going dormant. I'll know for sure when spring comes and everything comes back to life. I hope you get rid of them easily, no one wants to deal with that shizz on their beautiful plant babies. I love your cactus btw!
@FairyFly Thanks, Kourtney! I hope your efforts will be rewarded with lush growth come Spring.
@UltraKoreanfir Good Morning! 🌞 Sorry to hear about that. I hope your Cactus get back healthy and growing soon. I have not yet experienced any pests.
@UltraKoreanfir πŸ˜“ oof so sorry to hear that you are battling bugs. Can you use insecticidal soap on your cactus 🌡? I prefer it to neem, less oily and stinky with no icky residue. Battling pests is the #1 reason I don’t put anything outside that can’t stay outside (in SoCA that’s a lot). But that’s me. I’m quite obsessive about pests in the house. To the point where I rarely touch any of my houseplants after I’ve been in the garden until I shower 🚿 or wash my hands/arms and change clothes πŸ€ͺ🀭. I used to love to bring in cut flowers but nowadays they’re in a vase faaaar away from the houseplants πŸͺ΄πŸͺ΄
@UltraKoreanfir oh my, he’s cute with that fuzzy white hair. Sorry to hear about the pests.😑
Hi Plant Friends!! I hope everyone is have a great #MonsteraMonday I know I am! My latest plant baby arrived today. Meet Merida, the Monstera Albo!! I’m so excited to have her. This was supposed to arrive on my birthday, but it arrived alive, so I’m not complaining. This is my no. 1 #wishlistplant I could explode 🫢🏾✨πŸͺ΄πŸ’š @UltraKoreanfir @BabeVila @FairyFly @MariansOasis @SweetAzurebluet @Arid_oasis @Ninabeena @PlantJedi @PoisedAlbo @stephonicle @SuperblyLilac @TheOddAsity @JenniB81 @Amateurbotany @AmusingRedhill @Chevysgirl11 @debbiedo @ehery @elisenavidad @ILoveMyPlants @JenniferNoel @Michelle5986 @Pineapplemom @planthoe40 @PrizedShadscale
@Popcornjoness congratulations!!! πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³ that’s so exciting for you. So pretty!!
I don’t have much experience with a cactus because it’s just simply too wet & humid here that being said last month I brought in 30+ plants because it was starting to get too cold for my peppers and such to ripen and I had a pretty bad problem with spider, mites, and fruit flies. Neem oil And dawn dish liquid mixed in a gallon sprayer pretty much took care of that & 1 fly trap sticky paper. 5 day treatment every other day so 3 treatments in 1 week. No sign of a pest afterwards
I am having a problem with a β€œPeace Lily. Beautiful when received. After 3 weeks leaves drooped, leaves, turning yellow οΏΌ it’s just not looking well οΏΌ
Can you help me save him?
Fighting spider mites on my Brazilian Jasmine, lemon and lime container trees 😒thanks for posting! I forgot to spray my plants last weekend, should do it today!
@Popcornjoness Good Morning! 🌞 is it Happy Belated Birthday!πŸŽ‚ or Happy Birthday, just not yet?! Congratulations on your β€œMonstera Albo” she is a beauty! Have a great Monday on purpose!
Gosh imagine being a cactus and you’ve grown a heck ton of spines, you’re like β€œha no one will get in surely!!” and then stupid mealies find their way through to bite you πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I would be SO mad as a cactus
I’m in love with Duke. Anyone have a link I can add to my #secretplantysanta24 wishlist?
@SweetAzurebluet it was 12/7 thank you! ☺️
@Popcornjoness You’re welcome!
@MariansOasis I haven't used insecticidal soap much. It led be my go to, but i have so much neem around. I bought a concentrate from Happy Happy Houseplants that there us still plenty of, and then the We The Wild grow kit came with spray that haz Neem oil. I bought two kits. And I have a large Neem Oil spay for outside garden plants in the garage. I have ZERO insecticides soaps in my house. I need to reverse that. πŸ˜‰
@OhGollyItsJolly That sounds like a great treatment plan. I just need to continue spraying. I'm sort of a spray it once and move on gal. I know this. πŸ™„ Maybe I'll do better this time.
@itsjordan 🀣 Right? Dang bugs! 😑
@WildNorth Try Planet Desert. www.planetdesert.com
@Popcornjoness Ahhhh...pretty albo!!!!
@UltraKoreanfir thanks for the tip! I’ll check it out now! :)
@WildNorth there are a couple of listing's on Amazon too. No PRIME shipping though....but most plant places charge shipping.

Look for Arizona Rainbow Cactus OR Hedgehog Cactus.

Or try Etsy!

The specific name is: Echinocereus rigidissimus
Oh no!!! I find Thrips on my fan aloe a couple of weeks ago (I thought I'd eliminated the wee buggers but they just moved rooms! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚) so that's been a MAJOR stress! Neem treating succulents (without rotting them!) is a major pain in the bahookie!

Best of luck destroying those mealies! (Thankfully, I think they're the easiest interloper to get rid of!) xx
@JenniB81 I agree, mealies are easier than others because you can see them and squish them. In this case, it's hard to get to them because of the cactus spines.
@SpicySnakeberry Peace lilies don’t need bright sunlight, mine is across the room from the window in my office and my office light is on 8 hours a day 5 days a week.
@AC73LoveCats Didn’t mean to end that post so soon. The peace lily is fine not in bright light; in fact it seems to do better when not in the window. Also, when it starts to droop, it is telling you it needs water. It is a drama queen that way, but that is useful cause then you KNOW. So if you try a bit less light and get to where you know when it is about to droop and water it just before, it will do well for you @SpicySnakeberry
