For this of you happily collecting each and every of the royal philodendron family, like Majesty, Royal Queen, Prince of Orange, and their courtesans like Dark Lord, White Wizard and gradually branding out into the non-royals, yet no less royal, if unofficial philodendron royalty, the royalty without titles, such as FuzzyPetiole, Black Gold, Florida Ghost, Summer Glory, Golden Crocodile…you get the idea…well what happens when you get good at keeping the alive ? And the keep growing ? And growing ? Just keep this in mind as I’m trying to stay chill while winter approaches and i have to figure out how much room —or not— I have for all of them and —who gets stay or who has to go (out in the cold) I’m trying not have a panic attack ! For those of you have also starred to site on the syngoniums and collect those too, they might not look big enough in to be anything the flower girl at wedding compared to their bigger cousins, so I thought I’d share this picture: Mature Syngonium podophyllum vines climbing up a tree in the wild. @TexanExpat Beautiful!
@TexanExpat John so glad to see you here! I have been wondering if I am missing your post. I totally get your idea of needing room for your plants for winter! I agree a wee bit with @Gabiblocatelli I want a few trees so plants can climb too! 😁 crazy how they can grow so big if you let them! I will share two I have had myself for a very long time and have cut a few times as well! I plan to cut again come this spring. Have a great evening.. try not to stress too much.
@CourtlyKingfern wow. That’s certainly an accomplishment The split-leaf philodendron are popular shade garden “perennials” here in south Texas lol. My dad had a couple of them until one did not come back after the last winter and the other one I feel so sorry for. The palm tree it was growing under died during the polar vortex, so it spends the summers getting scorched by the sun. Its fate of perpetual torture—-burned all summer long until frozen to the roots—not unlike Prometheus…hence its name. I have a large potted one. It’s been a rough year for me. I tend to isolate during the challenges. Oh and thank you for thinking of me. Very kind
@TexanExpat John -wow I am so sorry about your outdoor plant burning up in the heat and then cold.. poor thing. I tried putting mine in sun here one year near my zen garden but realized it does scorch the leaves bad. So I now take it out on my front (north face) covered porch. It Really likes it there in the summer. Sorry to hear about the rough year for you my friend. I too have been in grief counseling once a week recently. I totally get the isolation part- if you haven’t gone through certain things, it’s hard to help others or understand what they are going through . I went through several weeks not so long back where I just was trying to take it “minute by minute” -at the time I truly felt I did not want to be here. And did not tend to a thing, house, clothes, dishes, myself.. ugh. It is rough. I have recently found myself watching series on TV until wee hours of the morning just to stay out of my head so to speak. It has helped me manage some. I am sending some peaceful vibes your way!! And keeping you in my thoughts.. do take care. And know I am here anytime..
@CourtlyKingfern thank you for sharing. Sometimes the scariest thing is to be left alone with our thoughts.. it’s even worse when the thoughts we are so afraid of are about the reality we cannot escape so we do thing to spare the mind and give it respite for a temporary reprieve. While it sounds like watching tv until wee hours of morning aren’t ur thing, have you thought about why you are doing f that and what it means ? From where I stand it seems like it’s a coping mechanism. Binge watching series is the easiest way to get through sometimes the darkest parts of the night It is an indicator that your survival mechanisms are engaged. This is a good thing. As you summon your strength to endure this siege upon you your brain you will eventually better coping mechanism. That will not take your sedans fern for granted by
@TexanExpat John it sounds like you know too well what I am going through. Yes just trying to bide my time and hope for a better day in my ways of being. I am thankful for the friends I have gained and how much people show they care. Your words are kind and very helpful for me. Thank you very much..🙏🏻
@CourtlyKingfern I’m glad to hear this. Be kind to yourself. It’s okay to fall on your face some days. It makes it that much easier to do better the next
