Happy Thursday yall!! Not too much to share this Thursday, just a small success that I'm super proud of!
A few months ago, I got some Sarracenia seeds free with an order of sarracenia. It was a surprise when I opened the box and saw them! I began the cold stratification process back in August (yes, I know a better time would've been late winter ... I couldn't wait, haha). I forgot about it for a few months, and began to get worried since I don't think you're supposed to leave them in the cold for like 3 months.. Pretty sure it's only roughly a month or so.
However, I still planted them and hoped for the best. Earlier this week, to my surprise, I saw a sprout! Just one sprout, but that's okay with me. I'm still so so so happy!! Maybe more will sprout, but I'm content with the one π.
Besides the one I'm starting indoors, I also put some seeds in a pot outdoors. Those ones weren't cold stratified. Because Sarracenia grow native around where I live (Unfortunately not exactly where I live, but within an hour drive), I'm seeing if my winter will be a good enough stratification for them to sprout in spring. It's an experiment! π
Also, I'm pretty sure (i think.. correct me if I'm wrong) that when sarracenia seeds first germinate, instead of pitchers they have non-carnivorous leaves first. Then they grow pitchers after. So, I guess in a month or so (however long it'll take) we will see if they truly are Sarracenia seeds! It's a reliable seller, so I'm hoping for the best.
Aside from that, I also got some plant mail on the way!! Another pinguicula, and.. a heliamphora! Seeing some people get them on here had me start researching them again .. I caught it on a Black Friday sale, so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to see if I can grow one successfully! I'm super excited for it to get here.

@Seedstarter oh my goodness that's awesome!! What are the hybrids, if you don't mind me asking (and if you know)?. If you post about them if the seeds germinate, make sure to @ me, I wouldn't wanna miss that post! π
@Merranda Wow Merranda, you have had some exciting CP news with the bonus seeds and now a Ping and heliamphora ! It will be a nice addition given your sarracenia collection ! I have some Cephalotus seeds I bought but I am not hopefully with them, no harm in trying though. Look forward to the photos when your new CPs arrive, glad you caught the Black Friday sale ππ
Thatβs so cool @Merranda !!! Iβm about to start the stratification process for several kinds of CP seeds. Iβll try growing a whole bunch of different plants. Iβm excited! π€©
@Seymour Hopefully the cephalotus seeds grow, that's awesome! My cephalotus still has the smallest cutest pitchers ever, so I can't even imagine how adorable it'd be growing them from seed! Out of curiosity, do their seeds need anything special (like cold stratification)?
@LaSiguanaba That'll be amazing!! Looks like you've got quite the variety there. Pretty soon, they're gonna be taking over your house, lol π !
@Merranda pollinating etc Cephalotus seeds are so hard that I just bought the planted seeds that are very tiny but were growing when I bought an adult plant from a seller. I doubt theyβll survive but weβll see. They otherwise would require to go under cold stratify etc and itβs difficult with high attrition rate. Itβs so much easier to just do leaf pulls etc
But seeds can be fun as you and others show ππ

@LaSiguanaba good thing you are a very patient person with all those CP seed to wait to grow πππ
@Seymour Well Seymour, I can be a very patient person when I need to be, though those who know me know this is not my natural inclination. ππ
