Who wants to try #Poinsettia365 with me?!

Who has a #Poinsettia now?! They're EVERYWHERE! So many different colors, too! Shout out to the December babies - this is OUR birth-month flower!

Now for the BIG question:

Who wants to try #Poinsettia365 with me?!

I'm going to try to keep this one THRIVING for the year. I have another one (not pictured) in #SarahsGreenhouse, it's gnarly -- but still green! πŸ€ͺ #StayinAlive
#TipsandTricks: this is a tropical plant; it hates cold weather!

Check out this video that I was sent from Plantophiles; it's quite informative.

I have one from last year. It doesn’t even resemble what it looked like when I got it. I just bought another one. I’m gonna try for a second year to keep her going.
@YammieOf3 got a beautiful "Sonora White Glitter" (standard google pic for reference) Poinsettia when we met up a couple weeks ago.

I almost grabbed one until I learned they won't last long. Now I'm tempted to try!
Fun fact: Poinsettias are Euphorbia πŸ˜‚
Love your little helper this morning!

I had a great aunt that kept these year round and it was one of the great family mysteries how she did it.

Every time I've bought one in the past it drops leaves if I look at it wrong. Now that I have more plant experience under my belt I want to get a fun patterned one this year and see if I can keep it healthy and happy. The way I figure it, if I can grow this I can grow anything else 🀣
@jaysjungle they last a while if you remember they are tropical plants. They are just hard to keep "pretty" if they don't get their mandatory dark time.

I once read that you can put a black box over it each night and I'm plannig on trying that next Christmas season. I've got a cardboard box I'll spray paint.
@bpark, look!
If I get one this year I will accept your challenge!
@RJG Zomg! Didn’t know that factoid!!!
@sarahsalith are you setting us up 🀣🀣🀣
Saw this last night. Can't fo glitter, otherwise, I would have slid that purple home.
I am trying to keep mine for the year I want to try to get her to reflower next year. I have her housed with my other succulents
Wait you can do the same thing to get it to stay pretty all year? I was going to let it look like stems until September and then put her in darkness
@FirstCanna my mother has kept hers going to for years. I put mine outside last year during the summer and it was THRIVING. It prefers to be outside while the temperature is above 50Β°.
@AwesomePlants I HATE that they do that to PLANTS. 😑
@Cerberusofmars it'll look like stems, but if you put it outside in the warmer months, it will REALLY grow well.
@sarahsalith that could be why they die because it’s too cold I guess
@sarahsalith ditto, but guilty of thinking that purple was cuuuuuteπŸ€·πŸΏβ€β™€οΈ
I’ve read they come from Mexico, like tomatoes, and like the heat and humidity. I’ve kept one for a long time before but keep in mind they are poisonous to pets.
@sarahsalith OK wonderful, I was expecting stems. I have a bunch of tropicals and succulents so I have a heater just for the plant room and I live in TX so its 100s in the summer. Is that too hot for her? Since it gets so hot in the summer the inside of my house will be warm
I was given this beauty by my neighbor! Going to do my best to keep it healthy and thriving, but I’ve never had much success. Wish me luck this year πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…πŸ₯²
@sarahsalith Not meaning to be raining on anyone’s parade but they are poisonous to pets. I never had a pet go for them but you ever know.
That’s crazy that they hate the cold- they are in the refrigerated flower section at all of our local grocery stores right now 😭
So what day counts for day #1? πŸ˜†πŸ˜† I'm in! I just don't have one. Yet.
I kept one alive for a while from last year, even lost a lot of leaves, and then grew more. But it is no more sadly πŸ˜”.
I’m in!!! I don’t have one yet since i’m looking for the β€œvariegated” or candy cane type, but if i can’t find that one i’m just going to get a regular one πŸ™„πŸ˜‚ never done this before (i actually was way less β€œinto plants” last year) so this should be a fun challenge!
@RJG what- 🀨🀯
@tango dude right?
OMG!!! The purple one is gorgeous ❀️❀️❀️❀️ πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™blue is gorgeous too!
This is Scarlet O’Hara. I fell in love with her πŸ’•
@Momster get one and let's post pictures throughout the year with #Poinsettia365 and we can see how far we can go!
@FormidableCacto BEAUTIFUL!!
@sarahsalith absolutely gorgeous πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’―πŸ’―
To me this is as much of a gamble as buying an orchid. It looks beautiful for about a month, maybe two, and then slowly dies πŸ˜‚ but I am gonna join this poinsettia challenge just as an excuse to buy another plant
@kinleycote I may do the same πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
@AwesomePlants omg I’ve never seen purple or blue!!!!
@OpulentWorm They are spray painted 😬 but pretty!
I got one !! So pretty
