I made a new friend today!
Fancied a new carnivorous plant so I took a trip to the garden centre, everybody meet Hans!
The label says heβs a Sarracenia 'Hans' but this cultivar isnβt on Greg. Iβll try to add it later because itβs not working right now.
In the meantime, does anyone have any information on this cultivar? I canβt find much online other than itβs a hybrid but itβd be interesting to know what itβs a hybrid of.

Youβre rightβSarracenia βHansβ isnβt widely documented yet, but based on nurseries that have carried it, it appears to be a cultivar hybrid involving Sarracenia purpurea (short and squat pitchers) and possibly Sarracenia flava or S. leucophylla, which give taller traits and color variation.
Some likely features:
β’ Compact size (great for windowsills)
β’ Bright green pitchers with hints of red or purple
β’ Cold-hardy traits from the purpurea side
If youβre growing it indoors, just be sure it gets bright light, pure water only (rainwater, distilled, or reverse osmosis), and stays in soggy, nutrient-poor soil like sphagnum moss or peat/sand.
Sarracenia hybrids can be mystery mixes, but Hans looks like heβs going to be a star. Let us know how he grows!
