I definitely think my silica is making a difference! The results are INCREDIBLE with my African milk tree (this particular one, I forgot to get photos of my big one), but here we go. Please note some of the plants looking droopy, but I promise you, they have bounced back and are totally fine. They just get dramatic π€£ sorry this might be a few photos π€ but I am so excited about this progress! @princesspitstop @Just1More @DreamMachine @Jho #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #SucculentLove #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #PetsAndPlants #MonsteraMonday #PlantCorner #BeforeAndAfter #wateringhole
I think thatβs itβ¦ for now. Thatβs the update on the silica! It has definitely improved their color, texture, and overall appearance. The plants seem to be loving it! π₯° How are yours doing, Nadia @DreamMachine @Jho? I know Josh, you said you started them on your begonias and had your Alocasias! This is my first watering with the Powersi and the other two things I added.
@Idplantthat WOW everything looks so great!! Yay ππΌ I donβt see anything droopy π Your begonias leaf looks amazing! New one? Iβm drooling over all your alocasias, and those variegated bananas, wow, I still canβt get over them!
Pretty much everything at my house is doing great with the silica. I just have an issue with one of my coffee plants that I canβt figure out for sureβ¦maybe nutrient lock out? It looks like a potassiumβ¦er maybe phosphorous deficiency? Iβm going to post about it in a secβ¦

First, I hope you are feeling better today and it certainly seems that way, so that makes me happy! And wow, what beautiful, happy plants!! They are looking so lush. So basically, we need to add silica to ALLLLLLLL the plants! Hahaha. I have to confess, I was eyeing a Black Satun at Canopy and I was soooo close to copying you but someone snatched it out from under me (ok, it sat in my cart for a few days while I decided). So, in order to placate myself, I just ordered an Azlanii and an Infernalis Kaput. Expect updates!! π€
@DreamMachine, those are two of my four myrrh treesβ¦ or they might be the frankincense? Honestly, I gotta look. Iβve been completely spacing out moving those around. π€£ I actually just started growing those for my mom to have out at Christmas with her nativity sets. That and my sister has Lymeβs disease, and sap from myrrh is amazing for it. π
@Jho oh no! That sucks. I hate when it happensβ¦ you finally say okay, Iβm doing thisβ¦ and then someone else buys it and you just scream in your brain nooo!!! 𫨠I canβt wait for the updates! I love π the azlaniiβs and I have a kaput on my list ones! So Iβm even more excited to see yours! π«Άπ»π₯°
@Idplantthat @DreamMachine he kinda reminds me Dead Manβs Fingers! Thatβs fun!! Havenβt dipped my toes into Hoyas - too close to succulents for my care. lol. I totally hear you on the despair of βlosingβ a plant. Thatβs happened to me a couple times and then that dang plant gets stuck in my head - like it goes from, βdo I want it?β to βIβm gonna get.. youuu.. baaaaaaaaack!!β (Florrie version) ππ That happened to me with a Snow Queen pothos and well.. the next time I saw one, I snapped it up, despite being there to PICK UP another plant. ππ Thatβs so cool about the Myrhh sap. I love learning about plant medicine and how much the things around us can assist. Nature usually has an answer. β¨ As for the new recruits, I actually forgot about Kaput.. I had liked it back when I first got into plants and thought it was too advanced for me so I never got it. Well, fast forward, I added the Azlanii to my cart and of course added the heat pack and thought, βwell I might as well make it worth it, what else does he have..?β Bababadadum - Kaput is the next plant down, and I instantly remembered it! Hoping the shipping stress doesnβt hit them too hard.
@Idplantthat Iβm sorry your sister has to deal with that, ugh! I never knew myrrh could help though, thats pretty neat, plants ARE medicine π©Ά In that same picture I screenshotted, what is the pink looking fruit or flower in there? Kinda in the center? I thought it was dragon fruit but didnβt see the π fruit tree! And do you keep nutrients or other plant care misc in those hanging black boxes?
@Jho I got bitten by the hoya bug hard this past summer. succulents + me = π because they donβt thrive in the PNW, but hoyas are subtropical humidity loving epiphytes! They are so easy going and chill. They donβt like drying out like succulents usually do (like, dry for weeks you know?) I typically water mine the day they get fully dry. And look at how teeny tiny the leaves are! They are ALWAYS teeny tiny and justβ¦ EXPAND, like magic. lol, ok thats it for my hoya persuasion. π I canβt wait to see your new babies!!

@Jho, thatβs the part that stresses me out too. But really, as long as the Corm isnβt affected, it will generally come back even without any leaves. π€π So I went the other way of a lot of people and started with medicinal plants and plants to cook with, then went to houseplants lol. I started so many years ago with orchids and my orchids would bloom every year, that I lost the challenge in it for me. π€£ So now itβs about the Alocasias.. banana plants are actually one of those plants that omg I feel like everyone should own. π€£ they do so much as far as just healing for us but also for other plants
@MaximalGasplant I think everyone here is more than happy to help and would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Nadia @DreamMachine has five cats, and Iβve got dogs, so I could help if itβs a general thing π€£
@Idplantthat @MaximalGasplant agreed and happy to help if you have questions!
@DreamMachine, do you mean these? They are hibiscus πΊ flowers. I love hibiscus tea, and I add a green raspberry matcha to my hibiscus tea. But those are the flowers before they bloom. So technically, I could cut them and make tea out of those yummy petals. I stripped the plant of some of its leaves. It goes a bug from an earlier shipmentβ¦ so annoying π€. My sister got really lucky with her Lymeβs, and they caught it very early. So sheβs not as bad, which is lucky sheβs got four kids. They need their momma! I started down the medical plant path when I got sick (Iβve been sick for twenty years now), but the last ten have been a nightmare for me and battling one illness after anotherβ¦ but I mean what are you going to do? We just have to live until we donβt anymore. π€£ Itβs the circle βοΈ of life ( I mean letβs start singing the circle of life Lion King style) ha ha ha, but I donβt want to be depressing to anyone. Nadia @DreamMachine did I email you tonight yet? My brain is not functioning tonight π€£
@Idplantthat oooh hibiscus!! πΊ I remember you telling me about that amazing sounding tea blend you make!! π₯° Iβm glad they caught your sisterβs disease early but oh, I also feel for you my dear π₯Ίπ« What a tough cookie you are, youβre still going! You are cracking me up with the βοΈ of life π but you are not wrong! Have you ever seen the Monty Python movie βLife of Brian?β Iβm thinking of the end scene π€ but donβt want to spoil it if you havenβt seen.
And you did email me yesterday with your plants! Or was it the day before? π€ Omg that reminds me of all the other ones that had me π± Like, variegated coffee plant?? And what in the world is a sherbet berry and is it as amazing as it sounds? Also tea tree! I want to try that too!
Thatβs not all but I donβt want to overload you on questions and interest π

@MaximalGasplant Iβll be happy to just send you one! Are you thinking of the Persian shield or a waffle plant? Both have purples but are different plants. βΊοΈ Iβll get some pics of them when I go in to turn off the lights. Brb
@DreamMachine no Iβve seen it, itβs been omg years since I have but I do remember it. ππ okay, so my sherbet berry plants are super tiny still and I think two of my four died (but it was an Amazon purchase) the other my green teas, talk about freaking tricky! I canβt believe how sensitive they are. The variegated coffee I had imported which was a bit of a headache and hassle finding anyone that would actually get it here without arriving dead. π
I think Iβve got one maybe two variegated coffees that actually made it. But I figure even one makes more! If you want something super fun and smells delicious and can be used for multiple things being in Oregon Iβd bet this plant would love it. The only thing is about it, its nickname amongst growers is βI dry I dieβ if they start to die or turn brown you lose the whole thing, there really isnβt a comeback solution for these ones. With that being said meet https://buyraretropicalplants.com/spice/nashia-inaguensis/ Also https://youtu.be/s52bQyLG35o omg I love π π₯° π this plant smells so good! Both of these to me are a must
@MaximalGasplant: first two Persian shields, last two are waffle plants, but I also have tradescantia, which are trailing; they are a beautiful shade of purple and silver almost, and when they flower, they flower little tiny light purple flowers (I just have a few flower, so I got to see them in person. They are so cute and little).
@AwesomePlants ha ha ha π itβs something quite fun. π€©
@Idplantthat oooh both of those sound amazing!! Thank you for sharing π©Άπ©Ά
