What are your favorite pet-safe plants?

Happy Saturday #GregGang! For #PetSafeSaturday, I’d love to hear about your favorite and/or most unique #PetSafePlants! 🐱

For me, I did tons of research on toxicity and pet-safe options, and through that exploration I wound up discovering orchids — more specifically, #Paphiopedilum orchids! Now, these little slipper orchids are some of my favorite plants, and I appreciate how unique these guys are. 🌟

Fun fact: they don’t fit the typical orchid mold because they’re terrestrial instead of epiphytic!

So far my collection has grown to include 3 different paphs, and I love how each of them totally have their own personality peeking through their mottled leaves. 💛
• Paph. ‘Hawaiian Moonlight’
• Paph. ‘Hawaiian Fancy’
• Paph. ‘Lynleigh Koopowitz’

Does anyone else have these paph species? Or any other types of paphs? It’s always fun to learn about new varieties! 🌼

And of course, the best part about paphs? They’re non-toxic, safe for #PetsofGreg! #LowMaintenance! And downright gorgeous!

If you’re interested in learning more about paphs (or any other type of orchid!) I used the ‘Here But Not’ blog a LOT during my research, and it was super helpful! I’ll drop the link below in case you want to check it out. 😅

I’ll have to look into those! I’m pretty bad with regular orchids so far, lol… And I love that foliage!… So fun! 🙂 As far as pet friendly plants, I have money tree, parlour palm, prayer plants, bromeliads, orchids, bird nest fern…
I love orchids but I’ve yet to get any paphs! I love how they look though, especially the ones with crazy spots or stripes. They can look very alien 👽🛸

& I love herebutnot!! His blog is like my plant bible 😇 🙏🏽
@BeesZenGarden for some reason i could never keep a parlor palm alive 😭 but i love money trees!!
@melaza oooh definitely give them a try! i love that their foliage is so pretty, because it makes it easier in those in-between times when you’re waiting for a bloom ☺️
@hoyahead I once had a parlour palm that my old cat loved a bit too much! I ended up planting it in the garden and that thing is now over 8 feet high and about 4 feet wide!… 😂 (Florida). Now I have another cat, another parlour palm and live in a different house… So far, so good! Lol 😅 My parlour palm seems to like light and being in a big pot (despite what I was recommended to do…) 😬
I find terrestrial orchids fascinating. In the U.K, the bee orchid can sometimes be found in grassland. It’s called the bee orchid because it looks like it has a bee on it and attracts males bees to pollinate it! I’m dying to find one!
@MotherOfOrchids Debbie those are so cool! i’ve always been fascinated by orchids that resemble something else! the monkey face orchid is pretty wild too 😱
@BeesZenGarden that’s interesting that it seemed to take off and really thrive after you moved it! and wow 8ft?! that’s impressive!
@hoyahead that article link was great, thank you for sharing Alex, I learned a lot 🤔🥰
@MotherOfOrchids, I find it super creepy! Lol… 😂🤣 But I admit a lot of orchids disturb me, I’m super picky with how they look… It doesn’t help that so far I have a bad tendency to kill them…
@hoyahead I naively thought it was gonna stay relatively small! It turned into a gigantic thing. Mind you it’s probably 15 years old now, wow… Time flies!… 😝
