Noticed this guy was getting so long/heavy it was pulling it's roots out of the water... Well! Check out the #rootporn! π² (Yes I know we have a mold problem. I'm working on that right now.) #happyplants #springintosummer #pothospack #coffeecupplants
@sarahsalith I was thinking about doing your plastic cup liner thing and putting this dude in soil, but it's probably too late for that now, huh? π
@RJG π
π
π
I definitely don't feed it every time I change the water... Nope π not me! π
πππ
Nice #rootporn π₯°
Thanks @Sassylimey! I'm not sure what to do with him at this point... I think he's about outgrown his mug, but I don't have any bigger planters atm, so he's sitting in a bowl of water until I can think of something better... π
@HoyaAddict I have literally no idea what that is... π
To Google I go!!
@HoyaAddict So what you're telling me is I need a plant aquarium? π€π
@WickedValkyrie Itβs a great soil that can absorb a lot of water. Think of it like soil Leca.
@HoyaAddict hmmm interesting! I'm afraid it might lead to root rot tho... π€ They do well in water if you change it regularly, but in soil they like to dry out... π€π€π€
@HoyaAddict is that a better medium for plants that like retaining some moisture?οΏΌ
@poisonivy213 Yeah, great for wet feet plants! Or cuttings that have been in water too long and you want to transition to soil. It can also be amazing for propagation and awakening corms or bulbs. Very versatile soil but very different to normal soil. I like to make planted aquariums I inserted a picture of an old betta fish aquarium of mine with the soil so you can see how it keeps itβs shape even under water. Pretty cool stuff!
@HoyaAddict wow so informative. Didnt know abt this
@Sleepysunday Google houseplants in fluval stratum! Lots of info out there on it β€οΈπ±
@HoyaAddict OOOOOHHHHH! I LOVE LECA
@HoyaAddict by the wayβ¦. Can you tell me how to propagate in sphagnum?
@Kaleyeeaah Sure! I love spaghnum! Soak it in water, then squeeze out the excess water. The moss will be moist not wet. Place in a clear lidded plastic tub large enough that any leaves wonβt touch the sides. Poke your cutting into the moss (if itβs just a leafless cutting/chonk just lay it on top) close the lid for extra humidity and place in a warm spot (I place a tea towel underneath to help) with bright light but no direct sun. (North facing is great for northern hemisphere) I like to check mine every 4-7 days to check everything is okay and to let fresh air inside. You can spray a Little water if itβs getting dry, but everything should root quickly! Note of caution, do not use this for succulents or cacti, they will rot itβs too much moisture for them.
@HoyaAddict youdda best!
@Kaleyeeaah π₯° youβre too kind!
@Jilliebeanstalk π
I can't tell if you mean the root ball or the mug...
@WickedValkyrie lol I meant the root ball
@WickedValkyrie ooooh cool mug π
π§ Now I'm curious! @Jilliebeanstalk you should do a screenshot and draw the face on it π And thanks! The mug is older than I am! Lol Used to be my dad's...
@HoyaAddict I think thatβs what I have in one of my fish tanks, if not itβs definitely something similar. That tank is always sooooo clean and clear compared to the one without it and the plants did great before I took them out to desnail them and killed most of them. π
@Jilliebeanstalk aww I want a snail tank so much!! π€π
@Jilliebeanstalk Yep same stuff! Itβs amazing for preventing root rot on delicate water lovers!
@WickedValkyrie not this kind. These are the invasive annoying ones. I have 3 nice snails π in one tank and the other tanks are invaded by the bad ones. They clog the filter with their snot egg sack things and themselves. The good snails are: mystery snail, nurite snail, and an assassin snail who doesnβt hunt (lazy F) I had 5 mystery snails at first but theyβre old I guess and 3 died, 1 escaped and hubby stepped on it one morning π₯Ίπ€π
@HoyaAddict whatttt I need to get more
@Jilliebeanstalk me too before I go corm hunting π€£
@Jilliebeanstalk aww poor escapee! At least they had a swift death... π I want mystery snails, they're so pretty! Lol
