๐ชฆ RIP my Cape Sundew ๐ข
Sad news in my oasis today. Yoshimi was an absolute champ and my lead sentinel against the fungus Gnat Battle (FGB) ๐ฆ I had last year. I didn't want this to be true but I can no longer deny it.
In her glory days, she had vibrant leaves of yellow-green, like the best kiwi fruit ๐ฅ, covered in the clearest dew of destruction.
Before the battle she even had a baby ๐ฟ but it was too tiny to survive. After the fight was over, Yoshimi bloomed to grieve the loss of the baby. She stoically reflected on her role in the FGB and decided to retire.
She lived a good life with distilled water at the ready โฒ๏ธ, under a dedicated grow light until her last days, enjoying the friendships of Beth the steadfast Blue Oil Fern, Erykah the grass-leafed Hoya, and the two Jane's (the remaining philo Birkin sextuplets).
She leaves behind her distant but beloved cousins, the Red Dragon Venus Fly Trap and Delia the Nepenthes pitcher plant. ๐ฎ๐พ The cause of her demise is unknown but she had a difficult winter despite the tight-knit and diverse community of plants in my oasis.
Rest well, Yoshimi - enjoy an endless buffet of delicious gnats and the finest distilled water in plant heaven.
In tribute, here is a photo gallery of her best days only, when she first joined my oasis, as a warrior, as a mother with her baby, and as a friend to all. ๐

P.S. every once in a while, my writing degree comes in handy... in combination with my sense of humour it's something else ๐คช

I can't believe I shed a tear on Your Beautiful Eulogy. I haven't lost one yet .
All 17 or so acquired Since Oct 2024.,but I know when I do I will shed a tear. Being in this group I have confidence and I love my plants just as I did my exotic pet collection. It's amazing. They are jot just ๐ชด Plants, they have personalities, quirks they have offspring for us, they ask us for things, (just like kids). And they reward us when we so a good job! All of you here have made it "Normal and Ok" to Love your plants , Name them, and I thank you all for this space๐๐๐

@DaringColtsfoot it's true that plants and pets enrich our lives much more than expected. I played up the life of my plant but felt the humour helped show my appreciation of my plant too. I'm glad you found value in this eulogy.
