@MrsSmith I would suggest keeping them away from your other plants for a few weeks though and spraying with Natria. Wipe down leaves and inspect closely so you know if there are any crawlers.
@AwesomePlants Thanks Awesome!!! βΊοΈβΊοΈ Never know what you get once you meet up with a private seller. I wouldβve just said βNo thank you β and turned around had the pictures been a catfish. But these 2 were on point. Iβm very happy with them both πππ
@AwesomePlants Thank you. That makes perfect sense. Iβll inspect the leaves now. Do I wipe them down with water, alcoholβ¦.? And I donβt have any Natria but I can pick some up tomorrow ππΎ
@MrsSmith You don't have to spray with alcohol. I do because I have so many plants. You can just wet a cloth and wipe down leaves. And you can use Natria any time as it's gentle enough to use. I added the gallon size of Natria into my monthly plant budget cuz I'm a little trigger happy spraying my babies down.

@ManyLime Thank youuuuu!! I was hoping it wasnβt a catfish. And I wouldβve politely walked away with my money in my pocket if it was. But thankfully they were as vibrant and gorgeous in person as they were in their posts. Hopefully I can maintain and enhance their natural beauty ππΎπ
@AwesomePlants Done and done β
No critters thank God ππΎππΎ Thanks for the Natria link. Amazon always comes through. Iβll probably get the smaller bottle.
@tmbryant37 Iβm excited about the idea of growth and a bigger pot!! βΊοΈβΊοΈβΊοΈ
@tmbryant37 My friend just sent me this and I was like π€€ Sheβs the one who got me turned on fully to this planting life.
@tmbryant37 So sheβll do well in that direct afternoon sun (west facing window)?
@tmbryant37 And your philodendron moonlight is π€€πππ dreamy!!
@tmbryant37 And your Homalomena Selby ππ
Absolutely. My balcony is south facing and my coleus are on the the end that is NOT shaded by the tree off to thr side so they get lots and lots of sun. And well, you see how tall they got this year π
I bought them all as little guys from my local nursery in those 6 packs like you get other annuals. I never fertilized them (I can only imagine thr forest I'd have if I did) so that's all the result of sun, rain, and waterings in between. They are potted in Miracle-Gro potting soil so I guess they were fed to some extent.

@tmbryant37 All of that in a year?!?!!! π³ Am I understanding you right? Ok ok. Great. Thatβs helpful and encouraging. Iβm not sure what soil itβs in right now since it was a Marketplace purchase but I use Miracle Gro as well so itβll be repotted in that eventually.
@tmbryant37 #PlantFast #PlantFast #PlantFast πππ Iβve gotta keep reminding myself when I look at that Moonlight π π
Yep, all of that this year, so get ready! Since it's later into the growing season now you may not end up a Jack and Giant Beanstalk, lol, but I would expect it to grow out of its pot before it goes dormant.
Mine have slowed down quite a bit at this point, but they grew quickly when I first got them. A lot of them have gone to flower now so I have to figure out how the seeding works. I think I'll try to harvest the seeds for next year. These are technically annuals if I recall, and there is no way these big devils are comics in the house over the winter to be saved π€£

@tmbryant37 Two questionsβ¦What do mean when you say that itβll go dormant? When does that happen? Ok three questionsβ¦what does it mean that theyβve βgone to flowerβ?
These plants are annuals, so in nature they will die off at the end of the growing season. Since you are growing it indoors it shouldn't do this since there will be no environmental triggers telling it to do so.
That being said, many plants will go dormant in the late fall and winter when they more or less stop growing and just have enough energy to survive until the spring. This is not just for coleus but many of our houseplants will go through this period of non-growth where they just maintain themselves until its time to grow again. This is because in nature there would not be enormous rain or sun in the winter months to do any growing, and the plant knows this even if it's growing indoors, so it slows down progress ot stops altogether until it's time to get going again.
When annual plants are close to the end of their lives they will flower (if that's how it produces seeds). In this case flowering is how coleus produce seeds, so once they begin to flower you should expect the plant to die shortly after the flower completes its life cycle.
If you want to prolong the life of the plant, and also to encourage it to stay compact and bushy, you can pinch the flower spikes off as soon as they appear. I chose not to do this so mine are tall and lanky, and should all die off sometime this fall. I plan to collect the seeds once the fruit pods appear and try my hand at growing them from seed next spring.

@tmbryant37 Got it ππΎ So helpful. Thank you. Truly.
@tmbryant37 Nooooo!!! Iβm a knowledge junkie and this is super helpful. I love attaining new information. Iβm just that kind of person. That was detailed and I understood it all. Felt like I was drinking it in and didnβt know I was thirsty. It was perfect. No need for an apology.
@tmbryant37 Screenshotting it so I have it to refer to later on ππΎ
@tmbryant37 I feel the same when I have info to share. Always happy to share the wealth. Especially when someone has a genuine desire to learn. I will definitely keep you posted. I hope I do well with it. Iβm confident that I will ππΎπͺπΎ
@LatiTish84 Thank you friend!! ππππ So happy they werenβt a catfish girl.
@SoothingBogbean isn't coleus what you have?
@AwesomePlants I donβt have any philodendrons yet. My first will be the prince of orange. Might name her Eve in honor of that βΊοΈ And I ordered her on Sunday from Gabriella. Still no shipping notification but the site said it usually ships within 2-5 days so Iβm trying to be patient. Thanks for the soil tips. Eve may be my first Philo but I know she wonβt be my last π π
@AwesomePlants I mix all of these for the soil? Equal parts?
@MrsSmith you won't need to repot right away and maybe wait till you get more aroids to dive in to the soil mix. The mix is like our grandmas giving us recipes, π€·πΏββοΈ measurements. Facetime me when you're ready. I mix some of all of those in a 2 gallon ziploc as my ready made mix.
