are these tiny bits on the end of spiderplants flowering branches babies? or is it just a thing they do for the flowering?

Those are the babies of the plant! 😁 It's how they propagate. You can wait until the are about the size of a baseball and you can see their roots, then you can cut them off and pot them. (:
Or you can leave them on and let them grow for a while; personally, I like that look.
