Lithops are my favorites! They’re so cute!
Wow! 🀩
I just got two new Lithops. And it seems like one of the already bloomed
@vvvelo yes indeed! And it looks like the variety that I have that bloomed last week
@vvvelo those are so big!
Ok never seen that but now must have! Are they hard to grow? Is it like a succulent?
@KeyCapejasmine I find they’re like super-succulents. They don’t need much soil or water. I’ve sometimes had mine go 3 months without water. But when it’s hot and they’re growing, every 2 weeks or so. When they start to wrinkle and get soft, I water them. So long as you read their body language, and try to maintain them so they only have these two leaves at a time, they seem pretty forgiving to me. Most importantly, they don’t get water when they’re splitting unless the new leaves gen very wrinkled. And I’ve read not to water them when they’re flowering either, but this part is a new adventure for me.
@KeyCapejasmine as they grow, they develop deep tap roots. So they need deeper pots as they age, but very coarse and gritty medium with very little soil. I use no more than 30-40% peat, the rest sand, vermiculite, and perlite. Other people use even less peat than this
Now this is the tallest #Lithops I’ve ever seen, and it bloomed! How beautiful.
@LeavesOfHope17 I’m surprised at how tall these are. I had one of this type that I was sure had etiolated, but the others all grew tall too. Hopefully they’re supposed to be like this!
Ahh the flower!!! πŸ₯°
@CordialWildyam yeah! They look big! I found them at Home Depot. Should I water them? I guess after blooming it supposed do divide and grow new baby and no water needed. Is that correct?
@vvvelo if they still look like the pictures, they’re well watered and probably don’t need more for a while. They should start work on a new pair of leaves now, and sometimes this results in a pupping out a new plant. Once you can see the new leaves, you’ll withhold water until it’s done and has absorbed the old leaves (except in some cases, it’ll get about 3/4 done and then get β€˜stuck’ with both the old and new leaves wrinkled and not really changing anymore. If this happens, a sip of water usually gets it going again)
@CordialWildyam thank you! πŸ™
Impressive lithops bloom! 🀩
