My #syngoniummilkconfetti had a stalk break so I took it off and have been keeping it in water. It seems to really enjoy it! I still have the mother plant in soil, and she's doing just fine as well. I'm thinking I'll repot this up in the spring and see how it fares in water over the winter.

@JesssJungle I love water propagation and saving accidental breakages by rooting in water!
Propagating in water is great if you transition to soil at the right time. Normally it is suggested this happens when the roots are 2-3β long.
If you overwinter the offcut in water the roots will be longer and the plant may find the transition to a normal potting medium too stressful. Leaf loss and plant death can result from transition shock so be prepared! A semi hydro environment can be a good step between water and soil.
Alternatively you could just enjoy growing it in water from now on - I find root growth as exciting as new leaves!
Good luck with this beauty πͺ¬

@MothGoblin thank you for the information on water propagating! That's going to be useful. I may just keep this guy in water for the rest of its life! I don't wanna lose it and it seems happy where it's at.
@JesssJungle Do it!! Just remember that you have your change the water regularly as the oxygen in it depletes over time.
βThe diffusion of oxygen gas is approximately 10,000 times greater in air compared to in water and oxygen solubility in water decreases as temperature increases.β

Some of my water growers have crystals and pretty stones in the bottom which also need washing if green algae starts to grow on them. I have considered putting an oxygenation pump and fish in the larger containers as the fish would eat the algae!
