Any tips for making my geranium bushier?

When I first got it, I wasnโ€™t giving it enough water or sunlight, which I think contributed to the long woody stem itโ€™s got.

Now, itโ€™s in a south-facing window with lots of light and I water it about once a week, but the long woody stem is a bit unsightly to me.

Anything I could do to encourage new growth toward the bottom?

I suppose you could air layer the top with spagnam moss and get it rerooted further up the stem on the more green part. When the roots are big enough to support plant cut it off and replant.
If you are interested and need more instruction I can tell you how to do it or I bet itโ€™s on YouTube. It may rejuvenate it. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒฑโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿคช
I have the same problem. My outside Geraniums were a little neglected during the wintertime. ๐Ÿ˜ But, there is good news, Geraniums are fast growers. It will get bushier in no time. ๐Ÿ™‚This is what to do for a bushier plant.
โœ‚๏ธUse your finger tips to pinch off approx. 1/4 -1/2 inch of the growing tips of each shoot. Prune just above the next leaf, or just above the next stem or pinch just above the flower bud.
๐Ÿ’งUse the finger soil test to determine when to water your plant. The skin on your finger is an extremely sensitive moisture meter and itโ€™s free. ๐Ÿ™‚Only water your plant when the soil feels completely dry on your index finger, inserted into the soil. This method allows your plant to tell you its thirsty. ๐Ÿ™ƒ
โ€ข Continue to slowly water your plant until water starts dripping out of the drainage hole, this allows the entire root ball to get dehydrated.
โ€ข Never let your plant sit in the stagnant water that came out of the drainage hole, because the plant will become overwatered and its roots will die.
โ€ข And finally, avoid getting water on their leaves, because that could cause a fungal disease.
๐Ÿ™ I hope your Geranium will live long, get thicker and prosper with may blooms.
The finger soil test is the best method to avoid overwatering.
