Speaking of holiday plants (I just posted about my literal late-bloomer amaryllis π), the beautiful, magnificent poinsettia my mother bought for me last month was immediately besieged by spider mites, and by the time I was able to kill them all, sheβd lost all her gorgeous leaves ππ But being a patient and loving plant mom, I knew she just needed time to recover. Now sheβs growing new leaves and will be lush again in no time. Never say die! Plants want to live; give them the chance π As the illustrious (and somehow still extraordinarily handsome) Jeff Goldblum says in that one π¦movie, βLife, uh, finds a way.β #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #LifeFindsAWay #Poinsettia #PlantRehab #GregGang #babevila #PlantTherapy #NewGrowth

@WelsomeRhodotus I do! I like to use a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water, 1/4 alcohol and 3/4 water. It works like a charm for new infestations. The really bad ones that I donβt notice until my plant is half dead, I prune all the dead parts off and then douse it in Natria Insecticidal soap. I love this stuffβway more gentle than neem, doesnβt smell, and works amazingly! It usually only takes one or two treatments with this stuff! ππΏ
@WelsomeRhodotus I have to follow you because your bio says you have over 300 plants! Me too! π€£ There really arenβt enough hours or enough places to put them lol!
@BabeVila nice! Thanks for the hot tips! I do a similar isopropyl spray for my succs but was a bit scared to try those proportions for the leafy green plant babies but youβve given me confidence now! ππ I have a few really young plant props at the moment with spider mites and have been brainstorming which approach I should take but I feel like if I leave it any longer itβs just gonna get worse! π

@BabeVila hahahaha this is deeply relatable. You should see my living room at the moment.. pure CHAOS. Do you by any chance prop and sell? Iβve started thinking about doing that to make some room. We have gorgeous caladiums on sale right now as itβs summer here and I desperately want them but literally every surface is covered πππ
@WelsomeRhodotus I have used that on my most delicate plants with no issues, but with little seedlings, you could always do a little spot test first to make sure! And then adjust accordingly. I donβt want to be responsible for killing your babies haha! I havenβt tried it on them before. But, I guarantee the Natria would not harm them! But totally get it if you want to stay with homemade. Either way, good luck! What kind of babies are they?
@BabeVila awesome. Iβve been making a diy spray that has a whole bunch of ingredients in it which includes 1.5L water and 2/3 cup isopropyl plus dr bronners, essential oils etc. I feel like itβs good to mix up recipes to keep those bugs guessing! πππ Iβll do a bit of research on the insecticide you use as well. So the ones I most need to tend to in terms of spider mites are a parlour palm, ficus shiv and a young ctenanthe greystar. At this point I would be sad to lose the ficus but the others less so π

(donβt tell them I said that π€«)
Similar thing happened to me here! The surprise was, even tho the lower leaves dried and died, the blooms are still fresh and thriving! True shock for sure, but I cant say I wasnt happy! But I really liked the colour of your poinsettia, it was gorgeous, and also, now we can finally find out if that was food dye or if it was the actual colour of the leaves, but if it was the natural colour of the blooms, then I might really need one! Go Jewel, and keep me posted!π§‘
@WelsomeRhodotus I was thinking about selling my props, but i usually end up giving them away! Part of me just feels like selling them would make it like work, and Iβm so passionate about plants that I donβt want to taint the experience by bringing work into it if that makes sense lol! But who knows, maybe someday! Whenever I want to make room, I just find people to adopt some of them and give them away lol. I do not blame you, caladiums are so beautiful! I want to collect every kind! π
@StarryKentia Haha I will definitely keep you posted! Iβm very curious to see the true leaf color too!
@teacher12 Itβs great stuff! And I love that itβs safe to use around my pets!
@BabeVila I love that! Do any of your friends/family respond with βListen Shannon, I really donβt need any more plants!β? π

you know as soon as I considered making online listings I felt an internal groan and thought thatβs probably the wrong way for me as well. Need to find some people to give them away to instead, my adansonii grow way too quickly! π€π€π€ My partner gently suggested throwing out my cuttings because these plants grow so prolifically and it was like a stab in the gut! So looks like Iβll need to find willing takers ππ
@WelsomeRhodotus Haha actually we organize plant/cutting swaps here on the app all the time in the spring and summer! Last year I sent about 8 boxes of plants and cuttings to different people and i already have plans to do more as soon as the weather gets nice here in NY. And itβs how Iβve grown my collection so fast; I never could have afforded to buy all my plants lol! Just an idea! If itβs summer where you are, itβs the perfect time to find other people in your area who want to trade or just receive plant goodness! We usually work how who pays for shipping on our own depending on the situation but itβs not very expensive here.
@WelsomeRhodotus I made some really amazing friends this way too π
@BabeVila thatβs amazing!! What a fabulous thing to do and also a fabulous idea for this side of the world. Iβm going to post a question about that - youβre a genius!! ππππ₯°π₯°π₯°
@BabeVila thatβs also an epic bonus!!! πππΏπΏ
