My split rock Gonzo is starting to flower! π He first started splitting about four months ago, so it's been at least that long since I last watered him. Very excited to see what color flower he births! ππΈ
An important reminder: STOP WATERING your split rocks and lithops when they start splitting! It means they're growing a new set of leaves. The old set will start to break down and be reabsorbed by the plant, which provides it all the nutrients and water it needs for the duration of the process. Any extra water you give it during this time could cause the new leaves to rot. You can resume watering once the old leaves have completely shriveled up and disappeared.

@stephonicle Steph I have wanted to try these, very unusual plant. Itβs a good thing I donβt have one now. Obviously I have not enough knowledge to grow one!! Thanks for this great advice.. πππ» Cant wait to see its bloom.. π€©
@TheConservator they definitely prefer warmer temps, so above 60Β°F. Yours might be wrinkling if it's getting too much direct sunlight in the south-facing window.
@CourtlyKingfern Actually I killed my first split rock because I didn't know you're not supposed to water it when it's splitting π― Woke up the next morning and it was a lump of pulverized goo! π Live and learn! π
Yours looks like mine @stephonicle. Love the name Gonzo, named mine Clover. When I looked at it searching for a name, that's the only thing that kept popping in my head lol. Looks a little blueish in the pic though.
@stephonicle cool maybe ill put it in a west window then. It still gets indirect south window light there but just direct 3-4 hrs in afternoon. And it will stay cooler there id assume anyway. But still above 60. Just not as hot in day .
@stephonicle Awesome π Thanks for the advice this may be my issue. We shall see if Iβm as lucky as you.
@FairyFly I was in the midst of a Muppets/Fraggles naming streak when I decided on Gonzo! Lol π You're right though, they do look very similar!
@amandaroehl24 ooh, you have a whole family of split rocks! π I didn't know about the watering either with my very first one, the app sent a reminder to water so I did...the next morning I found a lump of goo where my split rocks used to be π I'm always happy sharing info that might help others avoid going down the same road βΊοΈ
By the way, you have a stunning succulent collection! And you definitely have an eye for creating succulent arrangements π₯°

@amandaroehl24 and you may already know this, but as far as the watering reminders from Greg, you kinda have to take them with a grain of salt. They're suggestions more than anything...I always let the soil tell me when it's ready for water. If it's not, just hit the "snooze" button and it'll remind you again in a few days. Sometimes it can get pretty old, like with my split rock...I haven't watered it in 4-5 months, so I've probably clicked snooze about 100 times lol π
I also noticed Greg incorrectly ID'd some of your plants. It's not the most accurate with a lot of succulents, seems to think everything is either a ghost plant or pearl echeveria lol. For example, it ID'd your plant "Gregarious" as a ghost plant but it's actually a Graptosedum βΊοΈ
