Charcadet Art Rare [AR] from the Inferno X series [code number 083/80] and Piplup AR from the same series [code 085/80]
😀 hi Donna. I was just catching up on the big shift that happened on Wednesday regarding the thread posting (after I was wondering why no post was out yet and why you hosted it yesterday). Now I'm caught up and was just thinking whether I should pick up the first post today. I'm glad I double-checked since that was the exact time frame you stepped in 😀
As for the problems: I get that. It's exactly what I felt when I had only time to pop in once a week, post a picture without even reacting on your comments, and disappear again. I'm glad it is continuing in that way because ... you know me, the queen of off-topic ramblings once I get going.
As for today's special flavor of rambling: I'm beat. Since I started my day, i'm weirdly out of it, not getting anything done. I'm still on the fence if my brain has finally turned to mush, or I've just overworked myself in the last weeks and am just paying the price now. No matter, I'll just accept today as a 95%loss, write it off and look again tomorrow.
I did continue the rabbit hole that is the German plant swap/sell market. And as always I'm frustrated and none the wiser, once I'm done. (Other than that classifieds thing i mentioned earlier, which sucks), there seems to be no real vibrant forum for exchanges in my community. At least not specific to plants and in a 100 km radius. Or I'm missing something.
@MusicalRedmint Good Morning 😃 I’m operating on no plan except I love #TheThread and if I don’t see one I’m posting a starter.
@MusicalRedmint I’m paddling the same river in a boat with a couple of holes .. grinding too hard but keepin’ on keepin’ on.
❤️ that you give yourself permission to write one off; 👀 for first opportunity to do the same. 😁
It’s hard not having community and perhaps that’s one of the reasons why I enjoy this one so much - even when I’m 25/8 I can reach out and share with other addicts❗️about something that I love and isn’t work. 😆
@Araceae that’s a GREAT Aunt (get it?) 😍
#FreshLeafFriday a few fresh leaves I found on the way to ☕️ #TheThread
@Araceae I know -0 about Pokémon but have enjoyed watching shows about the collectors of rare ones and 🤯😱 how 💰💰💰many are!
@SunSoilLove that would have been my approach as well. Sounds great to me. As for the ability to write one off... Well, believe me, if you at times get as little done as I, reframimg it like this, is really the only way to retain a modicum of feeling of self worth😅
And this time... it's even earned, I guess. I've been elbow deep in plant tasks. first to be sure my plants are as safe as I can influence, after that nasty fungal scare (not over yet, but I won't know anyways until it's too late, sooo... 🤷‍♀️ I did my best).
Then I tried to save my succulents, which suffered under those very precautions I took: they might not get one very deadly fungus, but the sloshed water and humidity during treatment resulted in delightful and equally deadly spread of grey mold 🥳 oh and some yellowy fungus. at least these ones I can spot in time and try to isolate and still propagate. Except for my cacti. But hey, you can't win them all.
Then I noticed the dire need to repot some hoyas. Prepped a whole lot of cuttings etc. Took care of some orchids. Pimped my plant shelves.
And to drain my last bit of energy, I spontaneously babysat at my sister's yesterday. I loved every second of it, but I had only had a tiny sweet for breakfast and forgot all about eating and drinking with the kids until well after they were safely asleep. Then, because our schedules had been cursed for the last few months, I used this time to catch up with my sister for a bit and arrived home at 11.30 pm. Had to prepare for an appointment today, so I fell asleep at 1.30 only to get up early for said appointment. Weird thing is, I feel full of energy. Really. I honestly thought I would get loads done today. But instead of doing those chores I had planned, I started each one several times only to catch myself 1 min later, wandering aimlessly from room to room or standing in the middle of one without knowing what I was doing 😀 truly demented. I guess I'm just done for the week
Uhm.... also... because hoyas are on my mind 20/7 right now (rest is orchids and succ), it didn't escape my attention that this would be a perfect opportunity to stop at my hoya lady's shop (that's only a 10 minute detour on that route) 😬 (extra fun fact, that extra detour ensured i was on time: i had planned loads of extra time to talk shop with my seller, but ended up crawling through the biggest traffic jam. So I just flew through the shop, spend way too much on plants, talked even faster than usual, and got back into the car. I was there barely in time to pick the kids up from kindergarten and i wouldn't have made it otherwise without that extra hoya time. Didn't really help my stress level, though, I suppose.
And at least I had a perfect excuse to be irresponsible for once. Normally, I try driving as eco-friendly as I can manage, but boy, I've missed just hitting the gas pedal. The rest of the autobahn stretch was comparatively low-traffic and my tiny car proudly gave its very best.

.... now I only have to find a way to recoup my money that disappeared into plants. Again. But what can I say? 2 wishlist hoyas, cuttings of the cutest dischidia ever and a real steal on a slightly rarer one. Totally worth not eating for the next few days 😅
Good “late” morning to #TheThread and yes,, finally FriYAY!!! I too slept in but got up in time to see we had our first frost here in the valley. Cool weather this am for sure.

Still love to see the blooms on my TC as it has been putting out for me. Yes early but I don’t care, bloom away dear! 🫠

Plan to go by the cemetery to put the silk pansies at my man’s tombstone. It was his favorite flower and it’s the season here for them. Two yrs November 13th. It’s been a hard road I don’t wish on anyone.

On to happy things: grandson has a football game tonight 🙌🏻

Everyone have a great Friday!!
@Araceae my youngest son used to collect those cards. Notebooks full of them. It’s definitely a fun thing to do!
@SunSoilLove beautiful leaves all around. @Araceae I never got into Pokémon either. I saw it first, when some of my sister's friends got into it, but somehow that one passed me by. Luckily. I'm very prone to collecting things, so I'm glad that there aren't more things to collect in my life. For now 😅 that aunt sounds great, though. In my case, no pun intended. And congrats on those rare cards.
Good morning @SunSoilLove thanks so much for posting and hey no judge on the time!! 🙌🏻 it happens. Again thanks for your post and a hello to @TheConservator hope your day goes well, Sonny!
@MusicalRedmint and done is OK 👌
@CourtlyKingfern mornin’ Evelyn 😀
@CourtlyKingfern wishing you some happy, heartwarming memories along with whatever else comes. 🤗
@SunSoilLove you plants looks so nice!! 🫠 and I always lean to pinks… ❤️
@CourtlyKingfern do you keep these pansies indoors?
Also I think I’ve said 8 or 20 times how much I 😍 that pink ‘cactus’ 🤩
Good morning #TheThread and thanks for hosting @SunSoilLove 🙌 I wish I was well versed enough to make such posts. Also happy that you are I look forward to it every morning. @CourtlyKingfern You always share such beautiful pictures with us . @Araceae How many cards do you have in collection ? My hubby scored over two thousand baseball cards at a thrift store not to long ago and looking them up amazed me at their true values. . @CourtlyKingfern I also heard we’re in for a snowier winter but it beats ice . How are your plants adapting to the seasonal changes ? I certainly have some problem kids here 😫
@MusicalRedmint how are your orchids doing? I have a few that has never bloomed as of date but they were small when getting them. So took my chances. They are the kind like the lady slipper looks. Hopefully next year to see them bloom.

I think we all go through the money deal with our collection of plants. And habits.. 🤭
I cleaned my office yesterday & it looks great… now my sewing/plant room is a disaster.. guess I’ll be working on that because I have 2 blanket tops to finish & my sewing area is not operable at this second 😂
@SunSoilLove well the pansies are “fake” silk ones. But they will be outside once I put at the cemetery. They are supposed to be the type that takes the weather. Either way. I will find out.
Yes, sorry I keep posting so many times on the cactus but I too love that Pink!!
@ILoveMyPlants good morning! Thanks… yes we are being told a rough winter ahead. And I pray no ice! 🙏🏻
Only plant problem I have at the moment is my vine on my trellises. It needs cut back & repotted -It’s definitely not happy at the moment. Yellow leaves almost every day. Shortly I will not be able to leave all my plants on my sunroom out there as I only have a small electric heater for winter there. And too many plants for the cold air to come in the doors and wind blow on them.
@LaLaslovlies well you know one cleaned room leads to another! Haha
My problem is I have run out of room to put into another room. 🤭😜
Do you make blankets for family or to sell? Or just fun?
Oh. Thanks for asking, @CourtlyKingfern. Be prepared for me going on about them for a minute. 😅 I've been so focused on the hoyas, I've not gushed about those beauties for too long 😀
For now I'd say, most are in good shape (again, no idea, if a rogue spore of that fungus I let into my house for through my cleaning frenzy defenses, but no use worrying for now). Only one of my rescue phals is giving me trouble (rot dangerously close to the stem, spotted today, that needs to be treated quickly) and two others are quarantined because I suspect a virus. Other than that, it's all great. A lot of them are preparing to bloom.
I have one delicious smelling oncidium already, in "one-third-bloom" (one of the three spikes is fully open now). It's the chocolate/ marmalade fragrance one. Two other oncidiums, each also with three spikes, have been teasing me for a while now. I'm sure they will bloom soon. Or in 2027. Who knows.
In the phal realm, my very young phalaenopsis bellina yellow is preparing her first bloom and I'm checking compulsively how far it is every day because I'm so psyched.
Also, the one schilleriana is preparing to bloom for the third time this year. So soon I'm succession and with two spikes could be a bit much for such a young plant, so I have mixed feelings. I blame those big fluctuations in temperature my flower room has had this year. On the other hand I'm definitely looking forward to it anyway. I've bragged about its fragrance so often already, I'll spare you this time, but it's among the best fragrances i have among my flowers😀

Oh. I also have even two potential cattleya blooms coming in. One is a safe bet (a fast grower and steady bloomer), but the other one has disappointed me before, so I'm not betting on it.
All in all, they do seem to love the new fertilizer and the softer water: Growth has really exploded during the last few months.

Yours also seem to be doing very well. I always marvel at those oncidium blooms you've posted in recent threads. As for those newer non-bloomers: did i understand correctly that they are paphiopedilums? Those can take agonizingly long to bloom. Especially if they are of the kind that blooms consecutively. I don't have any personal experience with them myself, but I've ordered some for my mother, and I've read up on them a bit to help her. They seem to be similarly slow as cattleyas. Years and years until the first bloom. If everything goes well. I have bought some cattleya seedlings last (?) year, but bought them more as a pet project. It still made sense because a) I couldn't afford the adult ones, b) most interesting ones are sold as seedlings anyway, and c) I love projects like this. And I convinced myself by telling myself that as long as I have other regular blooms to look forward to, I could wait for those divas for a few years. So, I guess we are waiting together. Fingers are definitely crossed for your slippers. I'm sure they'll bloom soon. (But don't most paphs also have gorgeous patterned leaves? that foliage on its own might soften the blow of another year of wait time perhaps?)

@MusicalRedmint love your orchid in bloom ! Is this the one that smells of chocolate?

And yes slipper orchids I purchased as seedling but you are so right one has the Molten looking leaves. I love it. So yes… we wait together for them. 🫠🙏🏻
@CourtlyKingfern yes, it is. Technically it smells like chocolate (per description, and confirmation by others. I smell slightly burned marmalade most of the time. Once it fades, I sometimes get a whiff of delicious milk chocolate as well). Let's just wait get ourselves some tea and some fast bloomers in the meantime 😀. I'm sure they are worth it.
It's not the Sherry Baby, though, if that's what you meant. There are some others that can have a chocolaty smell. Mine is the Jairak Fragrance 'Ruby Doll'
Oh look what I have found!! I Put this fern in my hall bathtub. It’s been in there since I brought it in from outside. Was not sure where to put it in my house without the leaves browning.. been keeping it watered but now just checked.. it has new shoots of leaves coming in!

Yes… I think it might have a new home till spring again.. 🙌🏻🙏🏻

Plant received when husband passed.
@CourtlyKingfern how particularly wonderful this plant is happy and growing. 😊
@CourtlyKingfern Oh Evelyn My deepest sympathies. I can't imagine how difficult that is for you. I'm so sorry for your loss.
@princesspitstop Heidi thanks much. I Just ride the waves of emotions if anyone can relate. Seems worst closer to anniversary date.
But I sure try my best to get on with my “new” unknown life! 🙏🏻
@CourtlyKingfern It's a big scary world out there. I can't relate to losing a spouse and best friend but I have lost both my birth mother as well as my adoptive parents/grand parents. It's rough. The only way that I am able to move forward is knowing that I'll see them again one day. 💞
@princesspitstop yes I totally there too.
I too have lost both my parents, both in-laws and my sister-in-law and I do indeed look forward to that meeting again.🙌🏻❤️
@CourtlyKingfern I got 90% of it done, PLUS hung 2 new lights… then went out to my happy place. Next thing ai know it’s 2 hours later, & hubby was home from work😂😂. Gonna watch a bit of tv, eat a BLT (the last of my homegrown tomatoes 😔), and then get sewing! I make them as gifts & also sell them. I make seasonal throw pillow covers, kitchen items, blankets, keychains& whatever else I can side hustle that I can do in my spare time!
@LaLaslovlies love it and your plants!! ❤️🙌🏻
@ILoveMyPlants not too many [unless you include the worthless cards lol]. Just started like earlier this year
@ILoveMyPlants two THOUSAND baseball cards 😳
@LaLaslovlies you’ve made such a lovely, inspiring creative space. 🤩
I’ll have to catch up later I am out of town right now … 😂
@SunSoilLove Yes mam and paid $6.00 for the lot .
@ILoveMyPlants no way! 🤯 well congrats on that!!!!
