Oscar Wilde, as this plant has gone in to jail through no fault of his own 🌿
I live in the town the real Oscar Wilde was jailed on the 6th April 1895 for being who he was, a gay man.
Said jail was put up for sale by the government body that owns it in 2016. Locals have campaigned for the last 6 years that the space should be an arts building, as we don’t have much in the way of dedicated spaces for that round here, but they want to sell it off to build flats around the protected cell…
But to add to the protest and add to the sites value, Banksy added his latest piece on the outside wall of the building. He confirmed it on his Instagram with a Bob Ross style video, and it’s worth checking out because of how funny the parody is 🤣
It’s an incredibly cool piece of art, of Wilde escaping the prison with a rope made of his work, with a type writer hanging as the weight at the end.
I don’t really know why I’ve gone on this tangent, other than it’s the only interesting thing about where I live!!
