My #DroopheadTuftedAirplant #Bromeliad has three pups! So cool ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŒฑโ™ฅ๏ธ I canโ€™t wait to watch them grow! #HappyPlants #NewGrowth #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PropagationStation #PLANTMAFIA #babevila #GregGang
0ft to light, direct
8โ€ pot with drainage
Last watered 1 week ago
I got this same plant as a gift. Iโ€™m not well versed with this type of plant. Some of the upper red leaves are drying up and turning brown. Is that to be expected? I keep water in the lower cup and only water the soil sparingly. I havenโ€™t looked for pups but I assume thatโ€™s what is to happen as the โ€œbloomโ€ dies?
@KDkat3 Hey! Hereโ€™s an article about the pups and has a lot of good info on the plant in generalโ€”apparently, they can produce pups several times before dying. https://www.bromeliads.info/beginners-guide-bromeliad-pups/. As for yours, depending how long youโ€™ve had it, I think itโ€™s probably not a huge problem if only some of the upper red leaves are drying up, it could mean itโ€™s getting a little too much light or that it needs a little more humidityโ€”this is from my own experience, as mine started to do that but once I moved it a few inches away from the window so it wasnโ€™t getting hit directly by the sun, and put a humidifier next to it, it stopped turning brown and crispy. Maybe try that and see how it works? I also started putting water in the upper cup, too which might also help. Iโ€™m not really experienced with these either, but learning as I go, and that article was super informative for me. From what Iโ€™ve read, mine hasnโ€™t bloomed yetโ€”apparently when it does, Iโ€™ll know, because beautiful flowers will come out of it. I thought the orange/red part was the flower, but itโ€™s not. So they die after the actual flowers bloom, but until then, the central colored rosette will be fine. Apparently they live an average of 2-3 years, and by then, you could have a whole bunch of pups harvested! I hope Iโ€™m making sense, Iโ€™m super tired today lol
๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ they are so pretty
Oh my gosh I did not know they only bloom once in a lifetime! That is just sad thinking about it. ๐Ÿซฃ but the bloom you have is just beautiful!
@BabeVila love the plant, Shannon, but I also like the...are they glass beads? As a soil topper?
@CourtlyKingfern it is sad, but luckily mine hasnโ€™t bloomed yet! The rosette is made of colored leaves and from what Iโ€™ve read, flowers will come out of the top when it blooms. Something to look forward to while Iโ€™m growing and harvesting the pups for the next generation ๐Ÿค— These plants are so much cooler than I knew!
@Seymour yes, theyโ€™re glass stones, these plants are very top-heavy, with very little in the way of roots (they are a type of air plant), so I had to put them on the soil to hold up the plant! And I donโ€™t have to worry about water retention or anything since I water it by filling the cup at the top of the plant (they can be watered through the soil, but itโ€™s risky unless they have a good root system. That said, watering via soil helps them grow a root system so itโ€™s a personal choice lol). And in my humble opinion, the gold in the glass really makes the orange rosette pop! ๐Ÿ˜ but Iโ€™m biased. Haha
@BabeVila oh, I didn't appreciate they were a type of air plant...I only recently bought a little air plant on clearance...but this one looks majestic in comparison..
I think we are all biased LOL but I think you may also be right, even the glass stones added to the effect. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿคฉ
Very interesting, thanks for sharing, beautiful but so much more !
For anyone interested, hereโ€™s what they look like when they bloom ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŒบโ™ฅ๏ธ @CourtlyKingfern @KDkat3 @Macstracks @Seymour
@BabeVila now that's just those plants showing off ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ˜˜
@Seymour thanks so much! They are in the same family as the little cute ones lol. I have 7 of thoseโ€ฆ they keep showing up in the mail, itโ€™s so strangeโ€ฆ ๐Ÿคฃ
@BabeVila I think I had best stick with this little fellow, despite the temptation to be buying an exotic plants way above my capacity ...which has been me in the past...and possibly present and future LOL ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†
Plants just happening to be showing up at your door...how astonishing ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰like an episode of the X-Files ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰
@BabeVila I feel so silly I didnโ€™t even realize mine has 2! I have to read that link to figure out what to do.
@KDkat3 Wow, those put mine to shame! Yes the link is so informative, I hope you like it! Congrats on your babies! Lol ๐Ÿ’š
@BabeVila thanks for the help! Based on the article it seems the 1 pup should be ready to be removed pretty soon! Thatโ€™s exciting!
@BabeVila ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ WOOOWW!! Those are amazing!! The color is so vibrant.
@BabeVila absolutely beautiful ๐Ÿคฉ
