Has anyone used the different types of silicon in plants?...

Has anyone used the different types of silicon in plants? Such as potassium silicon vs monosilicic acid? I’ve been looking into these different types of products? Such as potassium (which is, from my understanding, a salt-based that’s a string of molecules instead of single?), and potassium has to break down in the soil over a period of weeks or months? Vs monosilicic acid that goes into the plant quickly and immediately starts working? So has one tried the PowerSi or the monosilicic ArgoMagen Si-tech? I know the main difference is the Si tech is just MS acid vs a patented product of the PowerSi. I just wasn’t sure which was better? Or more successful? #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #SucculentLove #PlantTherapy #PetsAndPlants #PlantCorner #PestControl
@Idplantthat oh man, I haven’t gotten this far yet! Are you reading anything specific? Please share if you are, I want to nerd out into this area!! I was just looking into silica but only tps nutrients, haven’t gotten anything yet.
@DreamMachine oh gosh… I almost feel bad you asked me. Yes! I’ve got major notes I’ve been taking. Hmm, let me find some for you! I think I have a video of this one guy who gives a great intro…
@Idplantthat no! Do not feel bad!! I’m like a sponge 🧽 lol 😂
@Idplantthat https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H9ZMzdE-ZbQ
@Idplantthat Thank you!! I just watched this one. They’re weed growers but I still liked the info

https://youtu.be/dnPlJWXOCh4?si=QkiX2Q0eDA4nJUJ5
Video and then some food for thought! https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/silicon-silica-sylicic-acid-what-is-it.136362/?amp=1 I know it says THC, but it’s informative for all plants.
@Idplantthat dang I was all about to say hells yeah PowerSi before I saw the price 😂🤣 $52 for 250ml!?
@Idplantthat my husband has been both an amateur grow and a professional ganja grower on a 5 acre farm, so this is ALL FAMILIAR lol
@DreamMachine oh I know! It’s outrageous, but that’s because it’s not just monosilicic acid but other compounds as well. But you can get https://a.co/d/7B4vBqX if you just want monosilicic acid by itself.
@Idplantthat ahhh I see! I might have to try that one to start with
@DreamMachine oh my goodness! I can only imagine the wealth of knowledge you too have! That’s so awesome and way to go! That’s a lot to do, and kinda fun too 😂 One of my best friend’s husbands was a grower then moved to Oregon a few years back and couldn’t be happier
@Idplantthat it is nice being able to have him as a resource 🤗 I mostly just absorbed information indirectly, but these videos gave me some nostalgia, haha!
@DreamMachine I just ordered a couple of bottles, and I bit the cost to try the Powersi. I figured if it’s worth the cost, I should see it fairly soon. But it’s also that the Powersi can be left in a watershed without fear of algae buildup, and that’s a positive for me. Having to mix it every time just isn’t worth it to me. So my big watershed will be monosilicic acid, the others gold leaf with humic acid. I’ve just been wanting to up the growth and reduce the need for most pesticides (no matter how organic).
@Idplantthat thats awesome!! I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on either after a little bit!!
@DreamMachine I love it! 🥰 Keep me posted if you don’t mind on how you like it! I’d be curious to see how different climates and things make a difference.
@Idplantthat absolutely 👍🏼 💕
@DreamMachine Oh gosh, you and I are singing the same tune over here.
@Idplantthat yes we certainly are 😂 I just ordered the agro magen 🙌🏼
@DreamMachine yay! 🤓 I’ll be really curious to see how it works for you. I ordered it a little bit earlier, but it won’t be here till Saturday. (I’m not a patient person, and Saturday is so far away 😂) So I’ve been using the silica blast, which is the potassium base, but when I started researching, I was shocked to realize it has to break down in the soil by fungus in the soil and can take weeks to months for the plant to uptake. So I decided to switch; cost-wise, it’s okay, but to do it that way, it’s just you may not get the desired results as quickly or at all. That was my understanding. I was slightly mad at myself for not checking all this before I bought the blast. But that’s my fault for being impulsive.
@DreamMachine, but the potassium base is a salt, and it just doesn’t make sense in my brain that anything with salt in it would be good for plants. I mean, I realize the potassium is a string of molecules with a silica component, but not a single molecule or an acid… but a salt… vs an acid like the monosilicic 🤷🏼‍♀️. Sometimes this just hurts my brain 🧠.
@Idplantthat bahahaha that sounds exactly like something I would do!! I completely understand 😂🙌🏼also I just went, “ah man if dont be here till WEDNESDAY??”
@Idplantthat as soon as that paycheck hits though I’m sure I’m going to get some powerSi too 😂
@DreamMachine I will let you know! I’m trying both. 🤞 I know the Powersi has boron in it and something else, which is supposed to be really helpful. But I’m trying to break down how many different mixes I do and ‘boosters,’ so I figured we’ll try both and then do humic acid and the gold leaf fertilizer, just waiting about 30 minutes between the watering times to make sure we don’t get nutrient blockouts. But it will hopefully work! 🤞🤞
@DreamMachine that’s part of the problem living in our day and age. We have gotten so used to the now. 😂 You mean I won’t wake up to who it being on my doorstep.. well that’s just ludicrous 😫
@Idplantthat or when it gets delayed? and I’m devastated?! 🤣 noooo the worst thing that has ever happened!! And then I smack myself
@DreamMachine I love it! The delays are the worst, especially when it comes to my animals’ food… they come in so upset. My little Enya (she’s a calico cat) was the sole survivor out of her family. She is the sweetest, most loving kid. But I hear this tiny little peep: “Hello, has my wet food come yet?” I’m starving. (She has dry food; she’s never without food.) But cats and half-full dishes, omg I’m gonna die! I’m going to die; there is only half of my food in there… I’ll never make it through the night. Makes me think of sad cat diaries.
@DreamMachine if you haven’t seen this! STOP EVERYTHING AND WATCH’ you will love it
https://youtu.be/PKffm2uI4dk
@Idplantthat omg *I* have a kitty who was the sole survivor of her family!! Moth 🥹 and yes that is the worst when the wet food is delayed!!
https://youtu.be/Xw1C5T-fH2Y
@Idplantthat OMG!!! I love Ze Frank!! I watched this when it originally came out and I completely forgot about it!!! Xoxoxo ❤️❤️❤️
@Idplantthat this is one of my favorites of his true facts series!! https://youtu.be/x_r-yfDtb4U?si=uwGamc5USmlOFT4f
@DreamMachine ha ha ha that’s my Enya!! We had her sister Fiona, and both sisters were unbelievably sweet. Someone found them in a field when they were only a few weeks old and abandoned, and then the family couldn’t keep them, so I took them, but unfortunately, Fiona got killed. We still don’t know how. We do have coyotes down here, so who knows… but Enya is still doing good and she’s the sweetest. I still love your tuxedo cat on the window screen! Have you tried cat window doors for them? We have one for Enya so she doesn’t have to go through with the dogs.
@DreamMachine I had to until I was watching llamas with hats. I love that one. But it’s a little messed up and I love it. Ha ha
Thats just how I found Moth! She was found in a bush on a nearby farm but the people couldn’t keep her, allergies, she was a few weeks old and had a broken tooth! She’s the mom of the cat on the window screen 😅

Aww rip Fiona 😭🫶🏼 I hate it when you just don’t know 🥺

That’s a good idea about the window cat doors. I’ve never tried them before, they have me so trained to open the doors for them 😂 Do you have pictures of Enya and Fiona? Here’s Moth being a derp 😅
@DreamMachine, his commentary is the best! It’s called “ get off your lazy ass and Google it!” It’s like some lazy hippy made a hole. I’m on to you, ppl. I love it!
@DreamMachine oh my gosh she’s great, I swear she’s looking at you like… hmm? Yeah? I’m sleeping, stretching here… it’s called me time, don’t make it weird, I’m doing me.
@DreamMachine I can’t find any recent ones, so I’ll take a photo of Enya tomorrow. She’s such a little angel.
@Idplantthat @DreamMachine hey, I’m late to the party, sorry. I recently went down this rabbit hole because my Frydek was getting edema spots. I ended up going with TPS to start, and it has a blend of mono and regular silica so there’s fast acting and long release. Supposedly. 🤷‍♂️ All I know is it worked and my edema spots had reversed within like 3 days, which I didn’t even think was possible. I thought I was just preventing future ones. I mix it with water, let it sit for up to 24 hours depending, then add in foliage focus. TPS NUTRIENTS Silica for Plants,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CT668F19?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@Jho @Idplantthat thank you! I was looking at that one too. My brand new birkin And xanthosoma have been getting some weird spots so I definitely want to nip that in the bud. They were on the same shipment. What did your frydek spots look like?
@DreamMachine I thought that I had taken better pics of it but I can’t find them. Here’s a zoom in where you can kind of see it. Basically the white parts start to get spots that look a little wet/ mushy. Especially if it’s only affecting the white parts, it’s easy to identify. Adding an after photo so you can see how it repaired. Sadly, this leaf is now after a few months, checking itself out to make room for a new one.
@Jho @DreamMachine that’s great to know! I can’t believe it cleared that up so quickly! I’m astonished, ohh! I can’t wait for the delivery! My plants don’t need to be watered, but now I want them to hurry up and need to be watered so I can see the changes! 🤭 I’m totally that little kid sitting in front of it going, “Has it grown yet? How about now… or now??? But holy moly Josh your Alocasia looks so beautiful! 😻 the white is amazing, I love the different kinds of shades.
@Jho 😮 WOW! 3 days?? Thats amazing, and agree with @Idplantthat that alocasia is simply stunning 🤩 I’d just stare at that leaf all day 😂
@Idplantthat @DreamMachine thanks guys! That one was my first new leaf when I brought it home and I was so jazzed by it. Now, it looks not so great. Womp womp. The new one has a lot more green; I’m guessing the grow light just can’t keep up with the shorter days / cooler nights. BUT - look what else happened today! Let’s hope this isn’t a constant flowering situation. 😅
@Jho oh my gosh, I love its little speckled tummy! It’s absolutely gorgeous! I love the new shade of green, isn’t it crazy how different amounts of life can make such a difference? 🤓 freaking science… I’ll never understand it… But I sure do appreciate it. 😂
@Idplantthat @Jho Hey you two! So I got both TPS Silica and the AgroMagen Si-Tech Silicon. And I have decided to go science on this. I have two cane begonias that are pretty much the same size, and they both have a few leaves with these marks on them. I’m not sure what they are (any ideas?) 🤷🏼‍♀️ , I just know they’re not pests because I’ve looked at every single leaf front and back of both plants with a magnifying glass and they both look pretty happy! The marks just seem like what I’ve imagined thrip damage to be (never had them, knock on wood) you know like a top layer has been removed. On the black magic it came to me with a couple leaves already like that, but I just noticed a New leaf with the same mark. On the polka dot I am not sure if it arrived like that or not 🤔 So I decided to see if silica/silicon might help at all. (I’m also spraying with a diluted castile peppermint/tea tree spray every week just FYI) Black magic is getting the AgroMagen Si Tech Silicon and the polka dot is getting TPS Silica every time I water. I’m just curious to see if we get any results! I’ll keep ya posted! 🤓
@Idplantthat @Jho posting these too so I don’t forget which one is which 😂
@Idplantthat @Jho omg after I posted that I said SCIENCE in a way that reminded me of Bill Nye the Science Guy, did you ever watch that when you were little??
@DreamMachine yes! I loved him. My dad was a scientist. He actually was with some of the groups that grandfathered stem cell research. So he also liked him, but my dad was also an ENT at a child’s hospital. It was on a lot. -sorry that reminded me of memories I’d forgotten! Thank you, Nadia! 🤣🥰🤓. Anyway, long way of saying this. I LOVE 💕 this idea and now I’m kinda curious too? I have the SI coming and just got that one we talked about today. So if it’s okay, I’d love to join this experiment 🧪?? 🤓🥸Josh— you said it took one watering and saw a difference in three days? I’m excited I feel like we all going to do a science experiment together! It’s so fun! 🤩
@DreamMachine and your begonias are so beautiful
Are you talking about this on the Leafs? If so, I think it’s stripes caused by miner leaves. I ran your picture through another app I use for helping figure out sick plants. It’s not always right, but it’s generally pretty good. It’s ‘picture this’.
@Idplantthat @DreamMachine good morning! yep, my alocasia “healed” itself rather quickly. You could see in the picture, it was a little off colored while it finished healing but the edema reversed seemingly overnight. It’s in self watering, so one water “change,” but imagine if top watering, maybe a little bit different. I’m gonna grab that app! Omg, that’s such a cool dad! Countless people probably owe him a gratitude of debt. There was a newer Bill Nye video going around social media last year before I deleted all of mine where he was basically giving some tough love and helping some of us “grow up.” So good! Anyways, I can’t wait for this experiment either!! Not sure about the begonia leaves - most of mine have mechanical damage, although I did just lose a nice leave to yellowing; I assumed due to weather change. Maybe I will stop hogging the silica for my alocasias after this and give the begonias some!
@Idplantthat already used your rec! My new Black Cardinal (bucket list plant that I missed out on when it was popular) was showing signs of fungal infection, and Picture This was very informative!
@Idplantthat awww your dad sounds wonderful!! And that is SO cool, WOW to be on that research team? 🤯 An ENT at a children’s hospital, man, that kind of job must have taken STRONG perseverance and love because I only imagine how hard it must have been!! Much ❤️ to him!! Glad to have sparked memories! 🥰

My dad is somewhat similar! I describe him as a brilliant mad scientist, he is so enthusiastic and talks your ear off about EVERYTHING but in a very engaging way, taking big concepts and makes them understandable. He built his own telescope and designed and built his own telescope shed/observatory in our back yard 😂

And YASS join this experiment!! 🔬 And are you talking about leaf miners for mine? The thought had crossed my mind but there is zero squiggly trails on any of my leaves. Let’s see if I can get some better pics. I’m going to get that app!
@Jho I had to take a second look at the after picture because because I didn’t even see any signs when I first looked!!
@Jho and oo I didn’t see that bill nye video. My daughter is the perfect age right now to join me while I rewatch them all. Assuming I can find them?
@DreamMachine your dad sounds like so much fun! That’s about the coolest thing I’ve heard in a super long time. My father passed away at 49, so we miss him and his work. He actually started the pediatric ward up at primary children’s here. Miners for my family were steel miners. Utah is steel, copper, and weirdly enough uranium mines. We all came from smaller towns and farm towns until most of the farms were bought up and sold for developments. It’s so sad. I’m so excited for science experiments! 😂
@DreamMachine yeah it just went to a more creamy color before finally going white again. The Bill Nye video I’m talking about has a bit of language, so maybe not recommended for your daughter. Haha but the rest of them, totally! I’ve been trying to find it and I find similar (Bill’s got quite the cursing vocabulary nowadays) but not quite the one I’m remembering. I’ll keep searching.
@Jho I bet your B.C will come back beautifully! Are you going to try your silica on it? I also wanted to ask you, have you ever seen the Caramel Black Cardinal?
@Idplantthat I hadn’t, but I just googled 😍😍😍 I’m loving the caramel versions of things we’ve been getting. Just the right balance of, “is that dried up? Oh no, the leaves are still lush .” 😂
