Just in case there are #Greggers out there struggling with keeping a specific plant happy, I present to you my #SSOP. Here's an official (backwards) #BeforeAndAfter of this horrible plant. It used to be the bane of my existence ... but now I have come to peace with this monster. I don't let it see me cry -- it can smell fear.

I have banished this #NotSoHappyPlants to a #PropBox and I glance at it every week or so. It is what it is: #SurvivalOfTheFittest

#HappyPlants (but not this one)
#PlantsMakePeopleHappy (except SSOP) #PropagationStation #PlantGraveyard #plantjokes #PlayingWithPlantsInsteadOfWorking #SOBER (even after this hateful #StringOfPearls !)
4ft to light, indirect
2” pot with drainage
Last watered 1 week ago

Man, this post is the highlight on sop. I had one growing majestically for 1.5yrs. Had beautiful trailing vines on all sides at a length of 2+ feet.

Thought I had care on lock πŸ”

Then suddenly, it started separating and rotting from its base.πŸ’€

I had not done anything different. It just was like, "Yo. I'M DONE AND MOVING OUT!"

So, like @sarahsalith, I took what I could. Threw them into a "prop pot" and just let them decide if it wants to live. 🀣

If it dies, it dies. ✨️

But here we are now and THRIVING! πŸ’›

Bonus: Also have variegated SOPs in a separate pot to peer pressure "growth" 🀣
I feel your pain. I went and killed my SOP. But I feel like it was it's fault, not mine 😀😹 I'm willing to get another one and try again only because I found a cute little bathtub planter at Target today. The pearls would look like bubbles. It would be a bubble bath! Now I need to find a new SOP! 😹
She’s coming back! You got thisπŸ’š so I was online earlier and saw this and started just laughing, had to share, bc it’s such a lie πŸ˜‚
Mine is also on its last legs πŸ˜‚ goddamn sop!
@Propa that's the biggest lie EVER!! I TOTALLY agree!
@KillerTofu I can't admit out loud how much I've spent on #SSOP -- I refuse.
@sarahsalith I’m not sure why they keep lying to us 🀣 maybe to get us to keep trying and buying more and more plants πŸ˜‚
@sarahsalith they sell crochet ones on Amazon (I got my daughter one bc she doesn’t keep any plant alive)πŸ’š maybe it’s a viable replacement 😊 πŸ˜‚
@KillerTofu that would be too cute !
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚
Lol I have to laugh because these are evil! I have some that are doing fine and then this little turd I just put on the counter and walked away πŸ™„πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ€£ @sarahsalith
I so gave up on SOP and continue to struggle with SOB. I think I’m on my 3rd plant to fill in the pot with the β€œwhat’s left” pieces. Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture before repotting it (too shameful). But here’s my redo. Wish me luck!
It can smell fear πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
@sarahsalith πŸ€πŸ˜†
Oh yeah! Here's my before and after of my SOP 😭 RIP ⚰️
@idkstephs 🀣🀣🀣🀣
Anyone tried String of Watermelons yet? πŸ‰

Etsy is trying to tempt me.
@KillerTofu this is what I edited over a year ago. 🀣
@Tica you know what?! I have a string of tears and it's GREAT! It's nearly 4 feet long (though bald on top). I don't know what it is about #SSOP -- they just don't want to live.
@sarahsalith Hahaha! That's great 🀣 I need to re-edit this and put mine πŸ’€
@Tica I wish I had "prop pot" luck 😹🀣
@Tica I have one. It’s still alive. During winter, just neglect them. They love neglect.
@sarahsalith ,this thread is hilarious but so true!
My Not Today Plants, NOT Today:

Ferns
(Bostons are so darn sassy and pretty, but I just can NOT...πŸ€·πŸΏβ€β™€οΈ...but maybe? again, this summer I'll tryπŸ€¦πŸΏβ€β™€οΈπŸ€£)

Peace (NOT so) Lily
Calatheas
Marantas
Money Tree
Alocasias
🀣🀣 I used to buy a Boston Fern every spring and I called it my yearly ceremonial fern because I no killed it within months. I finally stopped killing them (by not buying them!).

If you swapped your "fern" with "ivy", add crotons instead of peace lilies- that's pretty much my #NeverAgain list!
@sarahsalith I literally just cringed at the thought of ivy and crotons. I've killed basically all the EASY to kill plants that my big box stores only manage to carry.

Ok, I have some time to get this Boston fern dreamy eyes out of my system. Must remember how it gets dry and sheds EVERYWHERE! Even with a humidifier dedicated to it!
I’m not the only one!! Mine’s Barely alive… And my string of buttons is on its last leg too… Apparently I need a prop box. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ sigh
Omg, I can relate to this so much. I can't even show you my SOP because there's absolutely nothing left of it at this point, but my SoTears is just as sad at this point.
Noooo!!!!! I want all the β€œstring of β€œ plants and I don’t want to hear that they are difficult lol
Ohhhh dear I’m afraid this is gonna be me and my peace lily #frenemies
@RealSimpleMama 🀣🀣 #frenemies
@AwesomePlants YES ON PEACE LILIES AND HOW DARE PINTEREST TELL ME HOW GREAT AND EASY THEY ARE 😩😩😩
@sarahsalith can we go a step further on our hashtag puns and make it #FERNemies omg I deserve a damn award 🀣🀣🀣🀣 #sodorkythatitscool
Like, I can’t totally hate on my peace lily yet because she’s mostly not dead and she lives like three feet from where I lay my head πŸ€ͺ and I don’t want there to be a planty revenge β€œfreak accident” while i sleep!
Omg this post is sooo timely! I have to repop my SOPs ASAP! 😬

Succulent friends, please pray for me! πŸ™πŸ½

@sarahsalith @KillerTofu @Propa @HoyaAddict @TruthfulApricot @YammieOf3 @idkstephs @fitsedum

I'll need all a good plant vibes I can get this evening...

I've been putting off repotting my SOPs for too long... but I must, like right now, because it's definitely rebound & the soil has gone hydroponic 😬

Why do "string of things" have to be such a pain in the πŸ‘ to repot??? 😩
@roxyvivien prayers, girl! Fibroid roots are the end all and be all in the plant world. You won’t catch me removing those from peat moss. I can’t. I won’t. Nope.
@YammieOf3 That looks great! πŸ₯°
@roxyvivien Sending you all the best plant vibes for repotting your SOP! πŸ’“πŸ™πŸ» Keep us updated!
@roxyvivien πŸ‘πŸ€πŸ€žπŸ€πŸ‘πŸ€πŸ€žπŸ€πŸ€žπŸ€πŸ‘πŸ€πŸ€ž
@fitsedum We all have our plant deal breakers! πŸ˜‚
@RealSimpleMama πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚
@FitSedum Okay, I have no idea what you are talking about! πŸ˜‚ Fibroid roots?
Speaking of struggling to keep a specific plant happy.. I just had to get rid of my Coleus plant because it wasn’t doing well. It developed Downey Mildew, probably from the basil I had. However, I still have my two Mezoo Trailing Red succulent plants. They were overwatered when I bought them last June. However they survived, and are now in my house for the winter. They are doing great!
@Tica Yep! So far they’re doing well. 🀞🀞🀞 I ignore strings for the most part. Light is the absolute number one issue. What β€œexperts” say about strings and light is not always true. If that’s right and I water correctly it works. I can’t wait until the sun brings out SOW’s color. ❀️
Feeling this post hard right now… some plant parent shame lol…. Here is the life cycle of my only SOP. Went from two, deeply overwatered HD rescues, to about 4 healthy strands that really took offβ€” were plump and juicy and booming with new growth, to now shriveled and limp? Lol
@roxyvivien My fingers and toes are crossed for you hun! πŸ’š
@BrittneyLay start with string of hearts, then work your way up.
@RealSimpleMama you mean the NOT so peaceful?! 🀣
@AwesomePlants this is funny because my maranta has been doing great until i forgot to water it for one day… she’s protesting now
Loving this thread or should we say β€œstring” πŸ˜‚. My SOP went from 10 to zero almost overnight! Chopped it hard and propped the chops. We’re all okay for the moment!! πŸ™ˆ. Totally agree with the No More Ferns! I love you, but you ferns 🌱 hate my house 🏑 I’m looking at you Maidenhair, lemon button, button, Boston!! Unless of course I throw you outside and you take over the side garden - yes you Boston fern!!
Also can add Pilea glauca to my not again list - fungus gnat hotel, stem rotting, only lives as props in water, too much of my time annoying plant! πŸ€ͺπŸ˜«πŸ˜‰πŸ˜†.
